She goes through her bedtime routine surprisingly quickly and is ready to go to sleep when she notices Kit’s bedroom light is still on. Glancing outside to see what her friend is still doing up, Jade is startled by what she sees: Kit lying on her bed, eyes shut and mouth open, gasping for air as her hand moves gently but surely inside her underwear. Oh. Oh. Jade’s heart skips a beat. It’s at that moment that she also catches a glimpse of short brown hair behind the wrinkled underwear. “Fuck!”

Kit doesn’t speak to Jade for the two weeks that separate Graydon’s party to the day of the show. It’s the longest two weeks Jade has ever experienced, the silence a torture she is not used to, especially not from Kit. The same Kit who never stops talking and seems to be everywhere at school, is now nowhere to be seen. And that is the worrying part, because Jade knows that Kit is still attending classes – she has asked around almost every day–, so that can only mean one thing: Kit is actively avoiding her.
