ableism aside i genuinely recommend you refrain from calling your political opponents or their positions 'stupid', because 'stupidity' is a totalizing cipher with infinite vacuous explanatory power that seriously damages your ability to establish a coherent analysis of what they're doing and why

three categories of classic hilarious so-funny-i-slap-my-thighs-and-circulate-the-screenshots-everywhere tumblr stories:
complete lie that flat out never happened
genuinely horrific thing that happened and constituted violence against several people
person with 200 followers experiencing a break from consensus reality posting on tumblr instead of hiding in the caves of shame
#1. down with cis bus 2. sixpenceee's enslaved child 3. mitski child abuse accusations#and crucially: only category 1 can occasionally be funny and doesn't make you an insensitive lolcowing asshole!

Hello world 🌎 Am magala said an LGBTQ person in a sudan refugee camp. I and my fellow LGBTQ refugees face a lot of challenges including homophobia, hunger, lack of medication, lack of bedding and so many other challenges.
We are aiming at raising 5,000 USD to cover all those expenses so that LGBTQ people can get essential necessities like pads, food, medication and bedding so that they aren’t pressured into prostitution. Anything you can give will be of much help towards our survival however small it may be.
We thank you for standing with us in this horrible and traumatizing situation for any donations please use this link:

i think part of the problem with the public sex ethics discussions is in reality most people judge the morality of most actions based at least in part on their assumptions about the intent behind the actions. like for example if you have ever lived in a home with abusive or just hostile interpersonal dynamics you can probably recall people doing seemingly innocuous things (closing a window, washing a dish, &c) but doing them in way you interpreted as intending to convey anger or to scare you. you can probably see the distinction between "closing the windows is an acceptable act" and "the way that specific person was behaving while closing the windows was hostile or was part of a broader abusive dynamic." but sex in public rarely even makes it to this level of nuance because there isn't even broad agreement about whether, or how much, it's acceptable in the first place. is there a difference between someone masturbating in plain view with no interest in anyone around them, and someone doing so in order to intimidate and harass? can you reliably tell the difference? can you for any other act? who might be punished disproportionately by these mind-reading games? what about by blanket banning certain acts in public? falling back on etiquette norms won't save you here
#true!#consent#for the same reason i dont think that blanket saying that you dont get to control what other people do with their bodies will save you#either. or assuming you will always be able to tell the difference between the noxious and the harmless

Hello everyone, I would like to talk about my friend Faten, over at @familyfaten, for a moment. Faten lives in Gaza, and I've been in contact with her since November of last year. Our messages are short, terse, we don't quite share a language. I ask her how she is, how her family is, each time I'm a little scared, each time she answers, steadfast.
Faten has been raising money to survive amidst the genocide since August of last year, and despite this, her fundraiser has only reached 16% of its intended goal. There are many expenses to consider, daily needs, rising prices of essentials, and the atrociously high commission charged by merchants, perhaps a hope for evacuation funds, and yet, the the money seem to only trickle in.
Two days ago, Faten posted about her nephew, Nidal, who has been martyred by the Israeli occupation forces. He was only eleven. That is only one story, Faten has, in fact, been documenting her experience in Gaza very closely, you can find them on her blog.
I'm going to keep this post short, Faten and her family have faced displacement after displacement, loss after loss, and yet they continue to survive. And I think we should help them.
Faten is raising funds in Norwegian Kroner, which means $10 CAD = kr74 NOK, $10 USD = kr102, NOK €10 = kr119, and NOK ₤10 = kr138 NOK. Her fundraiser has been verified in this post.

The urinal, therefore, not only “diverted” passers-by. It also complemented the emergence of a society of consumption predicated on a particular deployment of desire. As urinals became more complex and more gender inclusive between the 1840s and 1890s, they increasingly participated in the growth of consumer society. The public urinal did more than deflect passers-by from the sight, sound, and smell of male bodily functions; through advertising it also attempted to divert pleasure. By encouraging the purchase of goods and participation in consumer culture, the urinal elicited pleasure that was rooted not in abject bodily functions but rather in the department store, the café, or the dance hall. As an administrative tool meant to contribute to the circulation of male bodies, the urinal can be placed within the broader project of satisfying male desire in ways that complemented an emerging urban system predicated on the movement of bodies through public space. The urinal enabled men to access other spaces of pleasure. That the public urinal emerged to facilitate men’s access to public space at precisely the same moment when the police were finding new ways of cordoning off working-class women high-lights the relationship at work. Urinals and brothels participated in a share dgoal: the production of forms of male bodily practice that revolved around the exercise of particular kinds of desires. Intended as a space of hygiene rather than desire, the urinal nevertheless helped men find locations to fulfill those other needs.

but fandom in general has this boner for the crux of all characters being highly imperfect self-knowledge - your repressors, your delusionists - but those types are not necessarily the most interesting to me. i think a lot of people have self-awareness but whether this changes things is the operative question. i think this reversion to this as ultimate character type - that there is some BREAKTHROUGH that must come for one not to be miserable, and it is the challenges to that breakthrough, whether it will happen or not, that drives narrative tension - is very sort of historically specific, structured by kind of a psychoanalytic gaze. it’s an framework where what is in the MIND is the most vital part of a life, always, more than material conditions or structures, and the character arc is about battle between individual and mind with other characters as additional opponents providing obstacles or getting in the way. but straight up a lot of people especially in the epic span of human history have not conceived of life this way, you know? and so like what if you took what they say they want seriously. they probably actually do want it. people want things that are either not to their benefit or not actualizable all the time.
#thinking about this post again re: substance use like#people want things that are either not to their benefit or not actualizable all the time!#what do we get from the framing of them “not really wanting it”?

🕊️Keep Hope Alive: a Gaza Giving Circle🕊️
Keep Hope Alive is a project that connects multiple families in need in Gaza with a pool of donated funds. Anybody can donate through their Chuffed fundraiser. Funds are then evenly divided on a weekly basis between all 7 of the families that the project works to sustain.
The project was born from the observation that Palestinians are made to share intimate details of suffering in order to be afforded help. Its operations are designed around the following principles:
Support Palestinian autonomy by letting them choose what to share.
Prioritize Palestinians' privacy and dignity.
Alleviate the burden of asking for help. Forced displacement & internet blackouts mean that most of the families can’t log into their social media.
Create reliable, sustained help through regular giving, rather than chasing one-off donations.
The organizer of this project is my best friend in the world and I trust her implicitly. I am also managing bank transfers for one of the individual families connected to the project and can personally attest to their veracity. The specifics of every single ingoing and outgoing transaction are recorded here.

the radical groundbreaking feminist 2000s vs the imperialist feminist transmisogynist handmaiden 2020s is an incredibly popular take but I guess it's convenient to think of transphobia/transmisogyny as a foreign entity to feminism that has somehow made its way deviously into women's spaces
#as we all know all the “movements”/hashtags/theorists of yesteryear commonly cited in this kind of post were super chill with trans women#and/or sex workers

Sorry we really went from free the nipple, take back the night, slut walks, and ending gender/sex segregation in sports being fucking milquetoast feminism 101 concepts to fucking girl dinner and "I just worry about fairness if we let trans girls play against cis ones" and "it was right of that woman to call the cops on a black man for existing near here in public during the day time because men are all violent monsters" and "radical feminism isn't transphobic we just need to kill all men including trans ones those oppressive traitors" and I will legit never be able to be normal about it. What the FUCK happened. I'd say I wonder what the feminists of my youth would say about this but I'm one and lemme tell ya I want to throw up. Go fucking read bell hooks or do something else useful please because all of this learned helplessness, gender essentialism, and transphobia dressed up as feminism is actively holding us back.

he has said in interviews the final act is representative of his experience being raised by parents who were abusing alcohol so you tell me
I know it's you zach cregger. for your next movie I recommend not making the main threat to children a clear stand in for transmisogynistic caricatures and evil outsiders attracting innocent children out of their homes (even in the very generous interpretation that she's alex's aunt so part of his family, how does that apply to the 16 other kids? what is the point of a commentary on child abuse where adults abuse children thanks to their evil supernatural powers, for pretty much just shits and giggles and because they're evil and perverted and also disabled probably?). gladys' claim to alex as his guardian is constantly denied by everyone around her and she is constantly seen as a strange and untrustworthy threat - is that how abuse is facilitated? as we all know what children need is a good hug from their biological parents. might also want to avoid making an agressive dad that starts witch hunts around outsiders in suburbia and beats people up because he'll kill you if you get too close to his family
btw just skimmed the interview in question and he literally refers to alcoholism as a "foreign entity" corrupting his parents. so that's what gladys is supposed to stand in for!
#you people are killing me. as we all know no person that has been harmed by their parents has conservative sexual politics#or locates the cause of child abuse in carceral and psychiatrizing discourses......#weapons spoilers

bold move to call gladys in weapons (2025) a "metaphor for child abuse" as if her presence in alex's house was some kind of incisive analysis on figures of power in children's lives or the family or whatever. old woman wearing garish makeup and a wig (whose femininity is fake, grotesque and monstrous) enters the suburban nuclear family uninvited and forces a child into silence in a way that is clearly meant to stand in textually for sexual abuse - the woman is undone by her wig (!) and the movie closes happily on the child, once again safe, holding both his parents? what might this tell us about the director's intentions regarding what he thinks are the main dangers faced by children 👍
#weapons spoilers#deeply conservative and trans/misogynistic movie especially since the villain in barbarian was also a monstrous old woman.#i mean mainstream horror so what's new. but i feel like it was a bit more out there even for the standards of the genre
