Fandom headcanons tend to become fandom lore. And it’s a cute ship.

I will say that part of it is that Falin is only seen from the perspective of other people. Our perception of her could be skewed based on that.

Shuro was in love with her. Marcille was enamored with her sense of adventure and curiosity. That feeling became a desire to protect her (probably related to her fear of losing her loved ones to Father Time). Kabru only knew her as an outsider looking in.

Laios grew up with her and knew her the best. That’s probably why when she came back to life, he’s not the one shocked or disappointed by her love of monsters. Marcille is.

We only see Falin as she truly is when she resurrects and can behave freely. I think that’s a massive part of it. She’s a plot device in the form of a character, so all of our expectations are thrown onto her by the others. This unfortunately applies to the fandom.

Ryoko Kui had an interview a while ago where she said that Falin and Marcille are not romantically involved. In that she interviewed she stated that Laios wasn’t intended to be autistic. She said fans are allowed to see things as they wish though as long because she’s glad they enjoy her work. So yeah, they’re not canon.

TLDR: Falin is only seen from the perspective of people who knew her. Their relationships to her could have clouded their judgement. The fandom basically did the same thing to new viewers.
