Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because "only women would be stupid enough to want to be women"
I wonder what he's doing now

daily affirmations:
i am kind
i am in control of my emotions
it does not bother me when someone is in the kitchen while i was planning to be in there alone
everyone in the house has the right to be in the kitchen
i am kind and in control of my emotions even when someone is in the kitchen while i was planning to be in there alone

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is “international” pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1989. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.

you are 16. you are talking with a gay man in his 50s or 60s, a friend, huge and gentle with a scarf and short fluffy curls of gray hair, who has directed you in two plays staged in your mid-size artsy town. (he has not yet asked you to be in his production of The Laramie Project which will change your life. this conversation will also change your life.)
he is talking about theatre. he is talking about theatre when he was younger. he says, "of course, it was AIDS then." in the pause, you ask him. clumsy and quiet and 16 and "straight," you ask him. what was it like.
he takes a moment in which his face is not like a person's face. "there was a time," he says, "i'm not sure how long, years. when i went to a funeral every weekend." he tells you about two funerals in a day, and choosing between friends when you couldn't make it to both. he does not look at you, he looks at them. his wet grey gaze is so clear that you start to see ghosts. it will be years before you understand why it feels like your grief too. why the ghosts call you family.

I'd rather die than ever knowlingly let an AI even touch a single letter of my thesis. The second I do, the thesis is no longer my sole effort, no longer proof that I deserve the degree I worked to get.
It then becomes not an accumulation of my knowledge, but of some predictive algorithm.
"I know chatgpt is bad but you just don't really have any choice" you literally do. Don't use it. Have some moral backbone.

Hafthor Björnsson (aka the guy who played the mountain in game of thrones) is in fact one of the strongest men on the planet. his wikipedia page literally begins with "Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (...) is an Icelandic professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all time."
This is not some random guy they found on the side of the street. This man has made a successful decade+ long career off of being the strongest motherfucker around. He also is likely not very fat in that picture at all, despite what first impressions you might have.
a good example of this is another former world class powerlifter, Eddie Hall.
Tumblr media
Yes, you are seeing that right. the man has an eight-pack while weighing over 120 kg, despite looking pudgy in the face and arms. These men are the definition of pure, unadulterated muscle.
Besides, the extremely low bodyfat that IFBB pro bodybuilders reach for the arnold classic and other bodybuilding shows are gruelling. They aren't walking around like that 24/7, promise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a photo of the 2024 Mr Olympia (the biggest bodybuilding show) winner Chris Bumstead during the off-season and then during the show. Not having abs 24/7 is normal and healthy.
Man, when I was like 16 I got so sick of being made fun of for being the fat kid that I took an axe down inna woods, chopped down a tree, and started doing log-lifts all the time. I got strong as fuck, but I didn’t lose no weight. I actually got bigger.
Same thing happened when I got into fighting. I got even stronger, and I got *fast*, man, and nimble, like a cat. Still chubby.
Body-building culture is a bunch of crap, my dude. Functional muscle is not necessarily toned or lean. You can be swole as hell and still be heavy. And that’s cool.
Embrace your inner barbarian. And when fatphobic little gym twinks try to body shame you, you should DESTROY THEM with your MIGHTY AXE
