the weirdly vengeful and petty tones aborted babies take in pro-life propaganda images are so funny like this passive aggressive "was it worth it mommy?" and "it's a shame you can't join me in heaven mommy 😔" like do you ever wonder if you were aborted for a reason you little bitch ass baby

From a project I was working on before going in another direction, but still wanted to post this. Inspired by this photo of mourning doves nesting in the fossil of a triceratops, and how it tells us that the world can end, just not forever.

were there ever things pliny the elder was right about?
plenty of things! while he did go out to observe things with his own eyes when possible, he spent pretty much all of his down time studying. what you have to remember about the natural histories is that it's really mostly a compilation of things that pliny read somewhere and has organized for his readers. whether or not he's right about something often relies on what sources he had access to, so it's not like he was just one guy making things up. there are some things about the natural world that were understood very well by pliny's time, and others that weren't for a variety of reasons, and pliny's writing reflects that.

it's always so funny to read posts about how anyone can be radicalized into adopting right wing beliefs because while it is indeed a technically true thing, most tumblr posters will point to their white financially comfortable american land owner family members as evidence that it can happen to "anyone" as if this contingent does not historically have the most incentive to turn towards white supremacist fascism when any aspect of the horrors that enable their lifestyle are challenged. like, your sweet as pie meemaw who never talked about politics (and won't listen to you when you tell her that X facebook post is fake) getting involved in some nonsense isn't surprising, it's banal. it doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to sway her otherwise, but if you actually want to be successful you have to actually recognize where she's coming from instead of calling her turn "random".

(cw: sexual assault) the pedophile -as it is understood outside of academic circles- is a mythical creature. the idea that a complete stranger who kidnaps and sexually assaults kids is their biggest threat is absolutely insane; not one case of CSA (child sexual assault) in a hundred looks like that. CSA is committed almost uniformly by adults in a preestablished position of authority (such as family, family friends, clergy, or teachers) and in a way that a victim who doesn't know what sexual assault looks like will be left unsure what happened to them. without knowing concretely how sex and sexuality works, would you be able to tell the difference between molestation and the various other forms of unwanted physical touch and abuse kids are regularly subjected to? would it even seem that different? but parenthood and the submission of youth to adults as institutions are threatened by the reality of CSA. adults need to justify their ownership of children through an imagined outside threat constantly held at bay through their diligence. the truth - that putting yourself in such a position of authority over children directly enables abuse (including sexual abuse) - is thrown aside.
