Uma mecânica interessante e claramente inspirada em dark Souls é quando a 2B morre termos de voltar ao sítio da morte e recolher alguns itens e pontos de experiência deixados pelo seu corpo. Para além disso, podemos escolher ressuscitar o corpo, que nos auxiliará até ser destruído de vez. Também encontraremos o corpo de outros jogadores, que nos podem dar itens ou também funcionar como um aliado temporário.

É perceptível de que estamos perante um jogo da Platinum no momento em que efectivamente o começamos a jogar. O controlo preciso, o combate frenético, os imensos combinations e a diversidade de confrontos são a imagem de marca que, felizmente, perdura nas obras desta companhia.

Os visuais de NieR: Automata talvez sejam o seu ponto menos positivo. As texturas não possuem grande detalhe, e excluindo os personagens principais e alguns inimigos os modelos também deixam a desejar na falta de pormenores, sendo bastante genéricos e simples. Por um lado, as animações são fluídas e espectaculares, principalmente nos movimentos de combate da 2B.

Infelizmente, o aspecto menos conseguido, e quase de geração passada, não se traduz em fluidez nos frames por segundo, onde é claro que a versão base da ps four sofre para se manter nos 60 fps. A falta de anti-aliasing também é notória, onde se consegue notar as linhas serrilhadas nos objectos do jogo.
