i have things to say about star twinkle!

i understand why people might dislike the season, its definitely more on a humorous and lighhearted note (although hugtto started similarly imo) but honestly, i feel like its the strength of the season

in hugtto the tone jumped all over the place, since star twinkle doesnt attempt to tackle the same serious topics the humor kinda becomes the star (pun not intended i swear) of the show and i still think they bring back or even bring some new good things into the franchise

singing during transformation aside, i like that the monster of the week formula was a little bit toned down! its kinda cool to see the generals actually fight instead of standing still for 15 minutes and then do the "if not for you kids and your meddling dog" speech to just dissapear

i also kinda like the theming of the villains?? no idea why they decided to go with yokai in a space themed show but the idea itself is hilarious imo i dont think the designs are outstanding or anything but they are definitely funny enough to get the message across (please kappard has me rolling since ep1). im ashamed it also took me a bit too long to figure out tengu's mask design but once i did it was kinda good?? like yes sexy fallic mask lady go on, do your thing (i dislike eyeone with a passion tho, both her and bakenyan are kinda...tacky ig also its conterproductive to have a rich girl charcter with THE weird laugh as a gag chara and then have a villain who does the same, booooo)

i also adore the cerberus scene so much, it was very predictable and expected but it still lives in my head rent free since last week

blue cat is also a kinda interesting addition since literally all mid-season cures since forever were either enemies (out of own will or otherwise) or just 100% friendly characters, i like her grayness in terms of relationship to the team

finally, im on the episode about hikaru's mom and thats probably ironically something that should have been in hugtto?? i cant remember any other mom who wasnt absent (and/or dead) in precure who had a development episode and its kinda cool that she is not established despite her age, just because she is an adult and a parent doesnt mean she has everything figured out and i would love to see this exact sentiment in hugtto (also because they kiiiinda reduced even working moms to just moms without identity outside of motherhood)

overall so far (im on ep 18) the season is not even half as bad as i expected it to be judging from people's opinons online but then again maybe thats what got me with hugtto since it wasnt as great as people desribed it (in my opinion and blablabla, i honestly enjoyed all precure seasons ive watched except fucking doki doki)

my issues with elena's name aside, i LOVE her i think she might be a contender for my top3 cures???

her design in cure form is everything, as much as i kinda dont like the star twinkle overarching design, her eyes contrasting her hair in cure form?????? god so pretty and the longer skirt???????????? yes please

with all due respect to akane and rin, i never really cared that much for fire themed cures (well i guess scarlet is also fire themed? i do love her a lot), maybe because both sunny and rouge are in the most generic/reused design lineups but soleil has me hooked

somehow her voice also makes me happy for no particular reason, i just like her a lot a lot a LOT

started watching star twinkle and i dont know why people were so mean about it? (but to be fair i loved kira kira too)

fuwa gotta be my favorite new gen fairy mascot.....i adored candy and paffu (i know people find them annoying but i have that weakness for adorable silly creatures) and mofurun is probably my all time fav (pecorin is close too) but in terms of design fuwa is A! especially the ability to change forms

i wanted to say im not a fan of singing during transformations but actually it has big winx vibes (why did they even take that long i wonder since suite was right there) and it works, better than hagyuu line of hugtto i think (though the music is kinda lackluster and hugtto animation sequence was better!)

i actually like hoshino though i wouldnt say she is outstanding...but its hard for me to judge pink cures because almost every season i feel like ive already seen her and then i go back and realise that actually no, they ARE different lmao maybe hoshino is a little similar to yume from aikatsu? and thats where its hard for me to draw a line but anyways i do like her

lala surprisingly captured my heart as soon as she came on the screen though her cure form is a crime, she literally looks more interesting in her human?alien? whatever form

and finally, a little bit of self doxxing: i LOVE elena so far, she is majestic, she is radiant, i love that they didnt make her a stuck up ass like kirara (sorry kirara) and cure ace (because she had similar vibes in expression on pictures) and she is kinda a spiritual successor to cure march whom i love and cherish BUT

she has my dead name...................................................

i was already nervous to start the season ebcause i knew she is the 3rd to appear but actually hearing her name so much is doing psychic damage to me 😭 i will forever hate toei for giving her this name though i know exactly why they named her that. i know becuase its MY FUCKING DEAD N-

anyways so far so fun and i actually got to realise that hugtto was in fact more deep and serious in motives!

for a second i forgot people used mother as a slang term and i just realised how funny hugtto really is with naming the goddess mother...

ok i finished hugtto and i wouldnt call it the worst season ever but it was very weird...maybe i havent watched precure in a long time but something was off

most implied and/or open endings actually live rent free in my head so thats not my issue; however the time travel fuckery is something i hate with a passion for multiple reasons and i wish hugtto didnt do this to me....wouldnt say its something i genuinely hate about the season but for the lightheartedness of most episodes i definitely didnt expect this emotional warfare

i loved most characters but i dont feel as attached as i did with other cures; the amount of villains kinda did a disservice to them (especially gelos being too similar to papple and having almost 0 development THOUGH i appreciate the feminist agenda lmao)

also hate that harry kinda exists in a limbo...they didnt elaborate on cure tomorrow situation with him and i feel like that set up was kinda a big poof, probably the most out of all others

honestly the age difference between hana and george was slightly weird but its kinda understandable...i guess as a grief themes obsessed person he hit the nail on the head for me, if people want to bring up him being a creep (which he still was! and i think its kinda the point) then we kinda have to remember he literally tortured his future ex lover so i dont think he had any rationality left in him (and that is, again, the point with him)

my brain is fried from coding for 6 hours but this is as much as i can say about hugtto i guess

wasnt the best season but definitely wasnt the worst (heartcatch and fwp stay undefeated/hj)

EDIT: actually i take some things back! as i actually do a lot even if you look at me going from ep to ep

i think what might have altered my opinions is the fact that i watched it on the *background* and only at work (as opposed to aikatsu stars) so i went from binging to big pause to binging again and i think it might explain my problems with pacing since it seems no one else thinks so

i actually do think i emjoyed it a lot eith one big exception: the theming was actually a little flat

rather than underwhelming battles, the motto of you can be anything didnt really get through fully since they abanonded hana's backstory, kinda glossed over henri's decisions and development and even saya was a little too rushed (though i appreciate her storyline)

i might be misremembering out of nostalgia but i feel like smile dealed with its themes a bit better, especially in the finale

personally i think the season would benefit from comitting to grief and connection without taking the easy roads of the second all stars movie; literally everyone in the seaosn had to grief something or someone even if not forever (for example sayas mom WAS grieving her daughters childhood which is normal and fine and would make a stronger decision of making her the monster)

also the job aspect was kinda gimmicky, as much as i love hana becoming a ceo it still could happen without those job bits, especially when family influence theme is right there and hanas mom is also right there

i still would prefer less "funny" episodes because we got no development for at least half of the cast (and maybe to justify the darker settings) but i change what i said to "this was a very solid season actually"
