GRAPHIKA MANILA 2014

The end of February is getting near and I haven't posted about this thing yet! ughghg. Last February 1, 2014 Me and my partner went to one of the most biggest multimedia conference in the country, It is was a good choice that I've made for the start of the year hahah XD

Graphika Manila is the premier multimedia and graphic design event in the Philippines. Since 2006, Graphika Manila has attracted over 12,000 design students and professionals and is now hailed as one of the most influential multimedia art events in the country. I wanted to attend this conference so badly back when I was an art student back in college but oh well, being poor is harsh.

The guest speakers are no ordinary people I tell you.. They came from all over the world including our country of course! and they are one of the GODS OF ART & DESIGN, everything was just HNGGGGGNNG!!!! I want to worship them as soon as they were standing on the stage showing all their awesome masterpieces.

Dvein is a collaborative project by the directors Fernando Domínguez, Teo Guillem and Carlos Pardo providing direction and art direction for live action and animation.

hhhaha this duo guest were so awesome and full of wit and humor, they generally proved that there is fun in creativity, something that we people in the art industry is proud to have.Here are some of the videos I got from their Live action works. Pure Awesomeness.

The second guest speaker was---- *yep wait for it* TENTENENENENENNEN!!!

SARAH BLAKE!

Probably 75% of my reason why I attended the event was because of her (no kidding) I LOVE ALL OF HER WORKS. I just couldn't miss this chance seeing her in person.

Sarah Blake is an illustrator, designer and fine artist living in New York, She worked for clients like Alo Drinks, Nike, Ford, Hurley, IBM, Wired Magazine, Scotch & Soda, Sakroots, TEDx Labs, and SGCNY.

YEP. I can see your jaw-drop right there. hahaha XD

She also shared some of her experience growing up, including her fascination with insects, her googly eyes and that she wasn't good at drawing at first but her passion in doing the things that she loves most made her a very talented individual today.

3rd on the list is Ash Thorpe

He is the epitome of what I call SWAAAAAAAG.

Ash Thorpe is such a cool guy, he lightened up the audience a bit by asking us an audience wave haha. This awesome dude is a Freelance Designer, Art Director, Illustrator, and Creative Director based in San Diego. Some of his recent collaborations include work for feature films such as Iron Man, X-MEN First Class, The Amazing Spider-man and the most recent being the lead designer for the film Ender’s Game.

and he all made it with illustrator and cinema 4d. How cool is that? XD

He also gave us a lot of insights for us young designers.

4th on the list our country's very own Isabel Gatuslao,

Oh how I love her natural wit.

Isabel Gatuslao is a graphic designer whose focus is identity. At age 10, she immersed herself in graphic design and has been doing it professionally for two years now. She studied at the Philippine School of Interior Design but later on realized that she was happiest creating symbols and working with typefaces.

-Chat Fores Brand Identity design-

Her works include the Nike Lebron X custom shoes for Lebron James’ Witness History Tour 2013, Liz Uy's brand identity, Medicard logo redesign. She has a personal stationery line/note cards sold in chosen branches of National Bookstore and Powerbooks. She also created the Filipino inspired patterns in Ascott Hotel.

5th on the list is The Mill

Represented by Phil-am Creative director Eugene Gauran, The Mill is a post-production and visual effects company launched in 1990 with offices in London, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. They are respected for high-end visual effects, award-winning moving images, design and digital projects for advertising, games and music industries.

Last but not the least, The very cute Jessica Hische!!

Jessica Hische is a letterer, illustrator, and crazy cat lady known for her silly side projects and occasional foul mouth. She has worked with clients such as Wes Anderson and Penguin Books, and has earned huge notoriety with her Daily Drop Cap series.

CAN YOU SEE THOSE GODDAMN MAD LETTERING & TYPOGRAPHY SKILLS?!

Back in Art college I used to hate doing lettering a lot, especially when it comes to those...uhmm technicalities and proper proportion rules that we must apply and we have to use those measuring sticks & curves that I often use to slap my face because of frustrations, and just wanting to run wildly shouting I DON'T WANT TECHNICAL STUFFS! I WANT FREE DRAWING!! and my professor would like just stare at me. *EHhemm* SORRY.

But I do love typography design, (Lettering is different from typography by the way as well as FONTS in case you're confused about it.)

Jessica Hische can be seen having a good time expressing herself on the stage, she's not even embarrassed saying those F** words in front of us hahahah XD especially one of her. Most important is, getting inspiration from everywhere you go is essential to any creative person.

The event was finished at around, 5pm, and all the participants lined up to get an autograph with the guest speakers. We tried to get their autographs too but the line was just too long...sigh T _ T

So i guess that's it. I really needed to freshen up a bit because of my graphic design job is draining all of my creative juices, and attending this event helped me to boost up my creative spirit, It was such an awesome experience. They will be having their 10th year anniversary next year, and I'll be crossing my fingers if I can attend or not XD. I do hope so XD
