Büyük Ev Ablukada, opgericht in 2008, is uitgegroeid tot een van de meest invloedrijke bands in de Turkse alternatieve muziekscene. Met hun metaforische en opzwepende nummers hebben ze snel een grote aanhang verworven en de muziek nieuw leven ingeblazen met hun gedurfde, originele en minimalistische aanpak.

Deze reis, die begon met hun eerste album Full Faça, ging verder met FIRTINAYT en bereikte onlangs zijn hoogtepunt met Defansif Dizayn. In elk album zijn ze erin geslaagd hun luisteraars te verrassen met een andere muzikale stijl en een vernieuwende benadering.

Met hun derde studioalbum Defansif Dizayn, waaraan ze al jaren werken, heeft Büyük Ev Ablukada opnieuw een blijvende indruk achtergelaten op de muziekwereld.

With her original mix of folk, indie, and acoustic pop, the Turkish singer-songwriter Kalben is a sensation in Istanbul. She draws inspiration from PJ Harvey, Sevinç Tevs, Nazan Öncel, David Bowie, and Tom Waits.

In 2014, Kalben was discovered on the platform Sofar Sounds, with a performance that now has more than 5 million views on YouTube. Since then, her career has taken off, with hits like 'Sadece,' 'Yara,' and 'Saçlar,' for which she has won the most important Turkish music awards.

Arab trip-hop and electro-pop music by Egyptian singer and songwriter Maryam Saleh & Lebanese music producer Zeid Hamdan in Paradiso (Upstairs Hall) on Thursday, May 9th, 2024. The duo delivers folkloric songs and compositions, often tinged with sarcasm, defying convention. They prompt listeners to unravel their hidden meanings with poignant political and social content, drawing from musical traditional elements to offer surprising modern twists and interpretations. Their rendition is inspired by Sheikh Imam and Ahmed Fouad Negm work and serves as a poignant reminder of a bygone era of revolutionary folk music.

Maryam Saleh habitually pushes the boundaries of Arabic music. A luminary of Egypt’s alternative music scene, she delivers a savvy mix of old and new, infusing shaabi and folk styles with innovative techniques and fearless personality. Saleh is a singer, composer, actress, and poet. As the teenage frontwoman of the band Gawaz Safar in the early 2000s, she revived the decades-old protest songs of folk legend Sheikh Imam for a younger audience. She broke new creative ground with the dizzying electro beats and sarcastic poetry of 2015’s Halawella, a critically-acclaimed album she recorded with Soap Kills’ Zeid Hamdan.

Zeid Hamdan is a Lebanese music producer and composer, born in Beirut in 1976, standing for the last few decades as the creative force behind several captivating indie bands originating from the SWANA region, such as Soapkills, Bedouin Burger, the Beit Project, Hiba Mansouri, Zeid and the Wings, The New Government, Maryam Saleh, Maii and Zeid, Kandia Kora (Guinean Pop) La Guinee Kazamada (Arabic electro pop) and more. Successfully blending his Middle Eastern roots with a spectrum of influences including punk, electro, and folk. On top of producing his own records , Zeid Hamdan has also been scoring for Films.

Oh Voyage's live shows are a spectacle to behold, featuring live performances of traditional Middle Eastern instruments that transport audiences to otherworldly realms. The Turkish rock pop singer Fatma Turgut is coming to Europe for a long-awaited Europe tour. Fatma Turgut is one of the most prominent female rock artists in Turkey and is acclaimed for her distinctive voice. With this concert, she will be making her first European debut.

The singer got off to a flying start in Turkey in 2007 with her band "Model" of which she was the lead singer. The band was very popular in Turkey. After the band broke up, Fatma Turgut continued as a solo artist. Her debut album "Elimde Dünya" (the world in my hand) was released in 2019 and received high praise. Since then, she has collaborated with big names like Sertab Erener, Sabri Tuluğ Tırpan, Emre Aydın is a well-respected artist in her home country. Now, it's Europe's turn to get acquainted with this exceptional artist.

Mazen El Sayed (aka El Rass), is a rapper and music producer from Tripoli, Lebanon. His discography includes 8 albums, the most recent is titled “Hudhud – هُدهُد” , as well as more than 200 singles in collaboration with other music-makers and rappers from the region. El Rass’s work has earned recognition and visibility in the Arab world, specifically for his dense lyrical content, versatility of styles and subject matter, and his personal sonic approach. El Sayed worked as a journalist before devoting his time to music, and has been described as a subversive voice inspired from traditional and contemporary expression, from the spiritual and the worldly.

Şugar (pronounced Shoe-gar)* is back, and this time with a special 'Pink İstanbul' edition. Pink Istanbul links art, music and people from Amsterdam and Istanbul with an exciting, culturally up to date programme with live acts, djs and performances. In light of recent developments in Turkey towards the LGBTQ+ community, we're turning up the volume on visibility, solidarity, and activism, through art, dance and music. Let’s celebrate love, freedom, equality and respect and get ready to make some noise!

Şugar is an open minded party connecting the LGBTQ+ sounds and ballroom scenes of Beirut, Athens and Istanbul. Expect the sounds of the famous scene clubs and hidden parties, house and disco, with electronic Arabic to pumping Turkpop, and from Greek çiftetelli to hiphop beats from the orient and beyond.

These cities are connected through historical, cultural, social and musical ties and Sugar brings all these connections to the stage with DJs, shows, performances and art.

*Şugar means nice, great, hot in the secret gay language of ancient and modern İstanbul.

Queens of Beirut

Op 15 mei komt Queens of Beirut uit, een boek vol foto's en persoonlijke verhalen uit de drag gemeenschap in Beirut. Het boek laat zien hoe zeven drag queens - Sultana, Sit Yanna, Narcissa, Latiza, Robyn, Anissa en Emma - zich verhouden tot elkaar, de samenleving en de huidige situatie in Libanon. In samenwerking met Stichting art. 1, IQMF en auteur / fotograaf Renske Diks organiseert Shugar op zaterdag 13 mei om 21.15 uur in LAB111 een programma rondom de release van Queens of Beirut, met een fototentoonstelling, filmvertoning, nagesprek en performance van drag queen Emma Gration.  

Beirut is een van de drie hoofdsteden waar Shugar zich enorm door laat inspireren. Athene, İstanbul en Beirut zijn wat Shugar betreft de queer capitals die historische banden hebben met het Constantinopel van weleer. Na jaren van economische en sociaal-maatschappelijke problematieken en een verwoestende explosie, zijn we ontzettend blij dat Shugar’s focus weer op een van de leidende Arabische queer steden van de Levant ligt en dat we ons weer mogen en kunnen vestigen in Beirut.

International Queer & Migrant Film Festival (IQMF) is een vaste partner van LAB111 en deze Special komt tot stand in samenwerking met LAB111. Dit evenement wordt financieel ondersteund door Queer Network Amsterdam.

Adamlar behoort tot de creatieve, nieuwe generatie indierockbands van Turkije en bestaat uit Tolga Akdoğan, Berkan Tilavel en Gürhan Öğütücü. Hoewel de band in de eerste plaats haar oorsprong vindt in de singer-songwriter-traditie, weet het veelzijdige trio ook invloeden van hiphop, uzun hava (Turkse volkstraditie) en zelfs tango in hun rockmuziek te verweven. Sinds debuutalbum ‘Eski Dostum Tankla Gelmiş’ uit 2014, zijn er inmiddels al drie platen verschenen en bracht de groep onlangs een verrassende cover van Sezen Aksu’s ‘Küçüğüm’ uit.

In januari 2023 brachten ze een nieuwe EP uit genaamd 'Harekete kimse mâni olamaz. Part II' (Niemand kan de movement stoppen. Deel II). Hoewel de benoeming 'deel II' de indruk wekt dat het een voortzetting is van hun vorige album, staat de EP volledig op zichzelf waarin je in 14 minuten op een melodische reis wordt meegenomen door de meeslepende en bewegende muziek van Adamlar.

Büyük Ev Ablukada, een elektronische pop/rock groep uit Turkije, begint dit jaar aan hun eerste Europese tournee. Op zaterdag 6 mei laten de game-changers uit de alternatieve muziekscene van Turkije voor het eerst hun unieke muziek, gekheid en verbeelding horen aan het Nederlandse publiek in de Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam.

Vanaf 2008 werd Büyük Ev Ablukada in zeer korte tijd bekend door hun metaforische, vrolijke liedjes en bijzondere concerten. Door hun vrijmoedigheid, muzikale vrijheid en eenvoud verzamelde de band een trouwe groep fans. Met hun releases en opvallende concerten wist Büyük Ev Ablukada telkens weer indruk te maken op hun publiek. Na hun twee studioalbums "Full Faça" en "FIRTINAYT" bereidt de band zich voor op de release van hun langverwachte nieuwe album. De eerste single van het album "Yangın Akvaryum" geeft een indicatie van de muzikale ruimtes die de band deze keer verkent. Echter, binnen al deze verkenningen blijft de band optreden met hun akoestische format als een pure Büyük Ev Ablukada ervaring. Vergezel Galvaniz Gelbiraz (Gülin Kılıçay), Canavar Banavar (Bartu Küçükçağlayan) en Afordisman Salihins (Cem Yılmazer) in deze reis en bereid je voor op een avond vol theatrale verrassingen en vreugde.

RAqS is a collective of event planners/makers with a mission to empower underground and contemporary arts, presenting live shows and audio-visual performances fused in club and festival culture, full of Levantine (Ash-Shaam) chants, rhythms from the MENA region and abroad, Tarab music and Andalusian classics - in ambient and electronic music styles.

Terez Sliman and Yazan Ibrahim are two musical pioneers of the acoustic, hybrid genres and folk scene in the Levante bringing together soulful and socially conscious songs to a backdrop of blended rhythms of flamenco guitar and the modalities of Arabic maqams. Their performance will feature some of their best works, from the iconic “Shahrazad” to the smooth and intimate sound that they forged together in “Will you come dream” to calling out the patriarchal norms in society and consecrating womanhood in “A Prayer”. From a musical perspective prepare yourself for blissful dance also showcasing Flamenco guitar solo pieces from Yazan’s first solo album Shams and a handpicked selection from Terez’s latest album When the Waves.

Terez Sliman Oscillating between word and voice, straddling between the personal and the public, Terez Sliman is an independent Palestinian singer, songwriter and founder of Nafas workshops and retreats, drawing out the raw human experience and turning sorrows and anger into songs through her congenial sounds. Born in Haifa, and raised between Haifa, Akka and el-Bi’ineh village, Terez delights herself in the joys of singing through a musical repertoire built upon unique lived experiences. Driven by her innovation, vulnerability, and strong sense of belonging, Terez shatters social taboos and anchors her works in the Mediterranean surroundings while flowing within wider sensualities. Her revolutionary spirit manifests in an authentic sound that quenches the spirit’s need for the deep, meaningful and the natural.

Yazan Ibrahim Yazan Ibrahim is a trailblazing independent Flamenco guitarist from the Occupied Golan Heights. His passion for Andalusian musical flavors took him from his homeland in Majdal Shams to study flamenco guitar in Granada where he attended the Carmen de las Cuevas school, in addition to the "Rafael Orozco" Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba, with teachers such as Paco Serrano, Manolo Franco, Carlos Pacheco, Manuel Cera Vera, Nino De Pura, Gabriel Exposito. His innovative collaborations included his solo project Shams, Yunamàn (Greek music), Danuk (Kurdish music), Toot Ard (root, rock, reggae), Terez Sliman (jazz, folk, rock), Cremita Jam (Flamenco Jazz), Jorge Pardo, Paquete, Amparo Sànchez, and many more.

RAqS is a collective of event planners/makers with a mission to empower underground and contemporary arts, presenting live shows and audio-visual performances fused in club and festival culture, full of Levantine (Ash-Shaam) chants, rhythms from the MENA region and abroad, Tarab music and Andalusian classics - in ambient and electronic music styles.

Liliane Chlela Producer, DJ and performer Liliane Chlela is known for her distinct sound treatment, pushing the boundaries of sound, movement and listening on both the electronic and experimental scenes in Lebanon and the Middle East/West Asia and North Africa. Liliane constructs a characteristic sound both as a composer/producer and as a hybrid DJ. She further explores the connections between improvisation and sonic manipulation by approaching numerous musical genres with her signature techniques.

Deena Abdelwahed The Tunisian producer and DJ, Deena Abdelwahed arrived in France at the age of 26 after earning her stripes on the Tunis scene and as part of the Arabstazy collective. Her hybridized DJ sets, on the outer reaches of sub-cultures, and especially the one she performed at Sonar 2017 (one of the edition’s Top 10 according to the New York Times), propelled the young artist into the clubbing universe’s most demanding spheres (Boiler Room, Concrete, Room for Resistance, Säule/Berghain…). As a producer, she was the creator of an acclaimed performance at the CTM Berlin Festival (“All Hail Mother Internet“). Her first EP “Klabb“, released in early 2017 on InFiné, was met with critical acclaim from the blogosphere and electronic media. That same year, she collaborated on the tracks «Plunge» and «An Itch» from Fever Ray’s second album.

Evdeki Saat

Evdeki Saat werd in 2014 opgericht door Eren Alıcı en is één van de rijzende namen van de alternatieve pop uit Turkije. De band heeft een eigenzinnige sound door de combinatie van instrumentenspel met elektronische beats, retro tintjes en Arabische invloeden. Door de jaren heen is Evdeki Saat gestaag hun fanschare aan het vergroten. Het nummer 'Uzunlar' werd een enorme hit in 2020 en in juni 2022 kreeg hun nieuwe album 'Huzursuzluğun Meyvesi' lovende kritieken. Nu ze Turkije hebben ingepakt is het de beurt aan Europa en komen ze voor het eerst voor een concert naar Nederland.

Dit concert wordt in samenwerking met Stichting Pera georganiseerd.

Haluk Levent - UITGESTELD NAAR 27 MEI IN MELKWEG

Dit is het verplaatste concert van 4 december 2021, wat oorspronkelijk plaats zou vinden in Paradiso. Let op: het concert is nu verplaatst naar 27 mei 2022 en een andere locatie: de Melkweg in Amsterdam.

Haluk Levent is één van de bekendste Turkse rock singer/songwriters van het land. Zijn muziek staat bekend als Anadolu Rock - Anatolische rock: een muziekstijl die zowel Anatolische volksmuziek als westerse popinvloeden met elkaar verenigt. Haluk Levent geldt als de voornaamste hedendaagse vertegenwoordiger van dit genre en zijn invloed op de Turkse popmuziek is dan ook groot. Zijn nieuwste album 'Vasiyet' (testament) is een eerbetoon aan zijn moeder. Hij bracht deze op Moederdag in mei 2021 uit. Het album bestaat uit 15 oude, Anatolische volksliederen waarvan hij er een paar als duet zingt met bekende collega artiesten als Cem Adrian, Hayko Çepki en Melek Mosso.

Een belangrijk kenmerk van Haluk Levent is zijn proactieve houding ten opzichte van de mensenrechten en milieuvraagstukken. In de jaren '90 gaf hij enkele grote benefietconcerten om natuur- en milieuvraagstukken onder de aandacht te brengen. Zijn kritiek op de mensenrechtensituatie in Turkije heeft hem vaak in de problemen gebracht met de autoriteiten.

De band maNga omarmd verschillende muzikale genres van rap, hiphop en elektronische muziek met een mix van traditionele Turkse en Westerse rockmuziek. In 2009 won de groep een MTV EMA award en traden datzelfde jaar op met Limp Bizkit en Queensryche op The Balkans Festival in Bulgarije. De naam ´maNga´ refereert naar de Japanse grafische tekenstijl waar ze een link mee hebben.

DIT IS HET UITGESTELDE CONCERT VAN 24 FEBRUARI 2022

In 2010 maakt de groep furore tijdens hun deelname aan het Eurovisie Song Festival en eindigden op de tweede plaats. Na hun deelname aan het Eurovisie Song Festival werden ze bekend op het internationale podium en wisten ze de aandacht te trekken van internationale media zoals ‘Billboard’, ‘The Huffington Post’ en ‘MTV Europe’.

Hun recentste hitsingle "Kırıla Kırıla" (featuring VEYasin) laat weer horen en zien hoe de band zich blijft ontwikkelen in de mix van rock, funk, electronics, folklore en hiphop.
