Modern Villains are Pitiful and Impotent

It's a very good watch and I like how it basically boils down to a few points about writing villains and the problem that many writers can't write villains.

The former is that villainy isn't the opposite of good, but the absence of good. It is goodness lacking, and the more villainous a character is, the more they lack until they are just a void.

The latter is that modern writers, who always want to do villains who are a meta on modern problems or symbols, cannot create a villain because they have to be 'grey' characters, and refuse to take the stance that morality is a thing.

My first Discworld book was the Wee Free Men. I loved it, and read it over and over again. But since that was the only one my local library had, for the longest time I thought it was a standalone. Imagine my delight when, years later, I discovered the rest of this fantastic series.

The City Watch books in particular struck a note with me, and they’ve quickly become some of my all time favorites. So of course I had to draw this to celebrate.

One of my brothers has this thing where he likes to be included on sibling movie night but he will not sit down or actually join us, he’ll just wander around the house and periodically show up to lurk in the doorway or lean on someone’s seat

And *I* have this thing where I always always know when he’s there, because every time he’s not wandering around like the ghost of bob marley and isn’t immediately visible it’s because he’s stopped moving to watch the film from directly behind me, which makes the back of my neck tingle like a dog sensing an earthquake

Which has on more than one occasion resulted in me interrupting the movie to tell him to just sit the fuck down and stop lurking in the shadows, Jesus Christ, it’s like I’m being haunted by the memory of ancient sins

Which has in turn been shortened to just “ancient sins”, every time I feel him doing it again

So to summarize, sometimes when my siblings and I get together for a movie night, we’ll all be sitting in the dark in complete silence until my ass deadpan announces “ancient sins” and a 90 pound 5’11” Slenderman looking motherfucker emerges from the shadows behind me like a jumpscare incarnate in Batman pajamas pants and informs me that we are out of orange soda

Hearing about the secret Slack channels and text threads and email chains everyone was using to hide the Entire Castle from Sam is extremely funny on its own, and even funnier because at the same time, Sam was stressing himself and probably the other half of the cast and crew out trying to hide 100k and a dad from Jacob Wysocki. Layers upon fucking layers of deception happening over at Normal Comedy Show Dot Com.
