Colonial Philippines was highly flammable. Everything was made of wood and other very flammable materials. Also, leaving out food in a tropical country. Good luck with that.

A former colony turned colonizer was quite the shock to the world. Phili was understandably pissed at America, hence the US-Ph war that resulted after. But this "benevolent assimilation" was divisive in America, many voicing their anti-imperialist views, Mark Twain being one of them. I bet America was pretty torn up about it, fooled by the propaganda his government made about the Philippines. In the end, he had no choice but follow his boss' orders and see it through to the end.

After the US-Ph war, one of the first things America did was build schools and teach Filipinos the English language.

Also, I think Phili loves attention because Spain was a deadbeat who dumped him in a convent. Phili just wants to be seen.

I've got quite inspired by mid century modern style (UPA's and Hanna-Barbera's work was the reference). I really tried to make everything style-appropriate, but as usual I ended up adjusting everything to suit myself, and it turned out too complex. I really need to learn how to SIMPLIFYヽ⁠(⁠`⁠Д⁠´⁠)⁠ﾉ

That's an important skill.

Although, I'm still happy with the result (⁠◕⁠ᴗ⁠◕⁠✿⁠) I'll surely come back to mid century some day. I'm not done with it.

Well, you're not wrong - it is actually a sequel to my other drawing. At first it wasn't intended, but I like the accidental interpretation.

If I'm going to talk about the process of drawing, then, tbh, I struggled a bit with snow, on the sketch it looked way more cohesive.

Also, the drawing itself represents a postcard.

And yes, they did pluck the tree out with bare hands.
