This was really challenging to paint, but I think it turned out really well. I used a bunch of reference but it was still insanely hard to get the right atmosphere.

Ok, Deltarune thoughts

The knight is obviously involved with the Holiday family, just look at the horns. I'm leaning towards Dess, because it was pointed out that we don't see it in the real world, and we know it is possible to go from one dark world to another since Ralsei can do it. But it could be any Holiday other than Noelle.

I think it's pretty clear that whatever is going on is FOR Dess though, her family is involved. Kris, without us, is involved. She is haunting the narrative. She is haunting the leitmotifs.

It's clear that Kris is letting us close the dark fountains, so there must be a reason to open and close them, because Kris pulled out a lot of stops against us getting the code in the guitar. It must be doing something, or maybe they just don't need those dark fountains anymore.

I was thinking about the Deltarune itself, and back in Undertale how Asriel took on a form resembling it, and how the way he got past the barrier was by taking Chara's soul... I think... perhaps that is what we are for in Deltarune. Kris is going to give us to Dess, or what remains of her, so she can cross out of where she is back to the real world.

Which would be contradictory to her being the knight, because then why not do it right then, but maybe there's something wrong that they need to correct first? Or it could be a curve ball and the horn detail means nothing, after all, Papyrus seems to be noticeably gone and his waistline does match...

But one more thing stuck in my head. Ralsei said that Gerson wasn't in the dark world Susie made, since darkners that are modeled after lightners only show up under certain conditions. Perhaps they are trying to manufacture conditions to make Dess appear. Then she just needs a strong soul that would allow her to leave?

It also points to one more thing, though... Ralsei seems to be modeled off of a Lightner. And there was something in the prophecy he wanted to hide. And he trys to make you not worry or care so much about him. He struggles to let himself exist. I think the only way to stop the darkness is to close ALL the dark fountains. Including his. And he's not coming back if a new one is opened.

There's stuff about him we don't know, like what being the prince of the dark world really means or entails, or how he can move between dark worlds. But I think just like how there's no way to stop Asriel from turning back into a flower I think there will be no way to stop Ralsei from turning back into a simple headband.

The first line up of fae! Some extra rambles under the cut:

Had to keep these guys together of course, they're all spring-waking and fall-sleeping fae. Usually the first thing they do when they wake up is find each other again, they pretty much spend all their seasons together.

Wild Cherry likes exploring, adventuring, racing and discovering new hide-outs. They've out-flied every other fae in the waking seasons, their current goal is to wake up early enough to spend a few days in the Winter - to challenge their fastest fae to a race to prove they're the fastest out of anyone.

Sycamore loves inventing and building, they make gear and knick-knacks for everyone. Fae from all over know to seek them out for any assistance building something, they built Rose's hammer for instance! Most fae without wings can't fly, but the Sycamore's helicopter seeds have the unique ability to grant him limited flight!

English Rose loves dresses, gowns, flower crowns, everything fashion-related in the fae world - they love celebrations and usually go a bit overboard decorating - but being extra is a good thing for fae. They have a bit of a temper, but are exceptionally generous and often willing to lend a hand.

Jack O' Lantern likes exploring too, and normally digs around animals burrows and fallen logs to find things Cherry overlooks in the sky. They are wingless but are able to glide on the wind (like spores) and have fashioned some rose thorns to his gloves to climb easily. He often goes off on his own, but always comes back around to hang with the group.

All four of them are well known, well respected Fae, but have a bit of a reputation of getting into trouble. They have a strong sense of morals and will not back down from a fight - if a fairy decides to stir up trouble these four will usually have something to say about it.

(Also shout out to the person who recognised the exact bug species of Sonic's wings like immediately when I posted the wip ur a real one jkhdfgdgf)
