Ayame's Blog, February 3. 2017 Translation: The Reflection in Your Eyes... These days the bulk of my interest goes towards working on the Album, and I've been slow to update the blog and twitter. The whole picture is finally coming into view, so it's starting to feel like I can finally take a breather. So then, last month finishing the term's lectures at the Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, I was doing grading. In the lecture, the discussion focused around music, and yet, we also had some discussion concerning technology in medical treatment. Today there happened to be some news along these lines. "Smart glasses shoot an image directly on the retina, "Retinal Scanning Laser Eyewear." The venture, how was this miracle technology born?" Source: http://ascii.jp/elem/000/001/428/1428515/ *English Language Article: https://www.japantoday.com/category/technology/view/retinal-scanning-display-glasses-developed-for-weak-sighted-people In the Graduate School lectures, we discussed the sound with something called a man-made middle ear (cochlear implant), with which people who are completely deaf can sense sound. Concerning eyesight too, for people with visual impariment, this news literally casts new light on the subject, doesn't it? Also, about this technology of a laser that directly hits the retina, there is also the possiblity to support AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) also comes to mind. For example, during everyday life, you could catch Pokemon in the landscape you see. I think the world is approaching this, don't you? http://ayano.me/archives/346

Ayame's blog from January 7, 2017 Translation: Just a Moment, There's Still Milk Left There is a concept called "The Internet of Things." To connect all kinds of things by the internet, that's what they say, but at this point it's not quite at the point of ping-ing, I don't know. "CES 2017 debuted LG's Smart refrigerator, Smart Instaview, for Android, or equipped with the Windows Operating System. Using the Alexa and Cortana voice controller, and food expiration date management function, and equipped with many fascinating features." Source: http://www.gizmodo.jp/2017/01/LG-smart-fridge.html *English Language version: http://gizmodo.com/this-refrigerator-has-windows-inside-1790818967 I dare say, from 2017 on, this will become a keyword that livens up the market, "Smart Appliances," don't you think? This is the branch that could enliven the Internet of Things, that is IoT. OS Equipped Appliances Of course, these exhibition models, release date undecided, Android and Windows equipped refrigerator were in the news. What would they look like, the Refrigerator is turning out to bring huge merit to the smart appliance concept. There was also in the article: "at the supermarket for eggs? is there still enough milk?" What other ideas might there be I wonder. It would be useful if you could manage the contents of your home refrigerator by checking a PC folder. Things like a function to inform you of food that's nearing it's expiration date. It is feasible to link all the goods in the refrigerator to your smartphone with IoT. Simply put, on the road to implementing the world of IoT, this big segment's address (phone number) is turning out to be indispensible. So far it's the first in the family, for now it's alone as the first in the series, after this it will be first in the series of all the things. That's the impression, don't you think? "NTT Docomo KDDI (au), Softbank, the three major mobile phone companies, on the 4th, will begin "020" appliance and more." -Yahoo News Jiji Press *English Language article, "Japan to allot 020 as prefix for networked ‘Internet of things’ devices":http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2015/10/18/business/tech/japan-allot-020-prefix-networked-internet-things-devices/#.WJSmRRsrLIU Just a few days ago, they made news by releasing the phone number 020 for appliance use. So, I think this is the really turning out to be the first in the popular spread of smart appliances. In the same way, there has been progress in the computerization of automobiles. Computer equipped cars and such, riding on computerized tires and such, I can't even make a clear guess, who knows what might come to be these days. http://ayano.me/archives/339

Ayame's blog Jan 4, 2017 http://ayano.me/archives/333 Translation: What If They Silence the New Years Bells? Well, I have a have a lecture in Kyoto coming right up in 6 days. This will include a talk on the theme of "sound environment," and there turned out to be New Years news story of the same mood. "Expel the 108 New Years Bells that Expel Worldly Desires 'social acceptability.' The shifting tide of Japan's tradition." - Yahoo News (R25) Source: http://zasshi.news.yahoo.co.jp/article… There is a complaint about it being noisy, they may stop striking the New Years Bells, times change and the Temple may do so. Still, over 15% of the people turned out to have objections about the New Years Bells, saying "it would be good to stop it" in their answers to the news' survey. That's especially interesting news. I wonder, are the New Years Bells Noise? In the lecture, "Sound Environment" is a discussion that involves what is noise and what is not noise. I wonder if it's an ambiguous theme, yet it's simple, if you feel something is noise, then it is, if you don't feel it's noise, it's not. In the train, I have my music blasting, sound that leaks out might be noise to people around me, something like that. In the first place, the noise problem started when we started to split sound into two categories, noise and not noise. It is a curiosity, what if there was no noise problem in olden days before the word "noise" existed. As proof, since the piano noise murder case in the 1970s, cases involving noise have been prosecuted more often. [ piano murder, in 1974 an mentally unstable and overly sound sensitive man killed his neighbors for playing the piano too much:http://www.japantimes.co.jp/…/when-should-we-make-noise-ab…/ ]] "People who don't notice they have stiff shoulders don't strain their shoulders," it might be something like that, eh LOL. Of course, there is the same question about whether or not preschool children's voices are noise, don't you think? People who think it's normal to hear children's voices, don't feel that it's noise, do they? Still, that which is called noise is not necessarily a problem of volume. On the train there is concern about speaking in a low voice on the phone, but not about having a conversation in a normal voice. Sound is in air space, and then environment makes a set. That air space, when sound and environment don't link up successfully, there's a "iwakan" (bad feeling), we could draw some conclusion about this inexplicable phenomenon like this. Well, getting back to the discussion of the New Years Bells. These New Years Bells, I dare say, most people feel it has the charm of New Years Eve about it, there's no question about it, they don't feel that it's noise, I think. I dare say, this is a long standing custom, and these so called reasons are not enough. I guess if you rang bells in the middle of the night in a country that did not have a New Years Bells tradition, you might be told to shut up. In the same way, if "gong" sounding bells are not wanted, "vooooii" they'd be devoiced, with the same volume, same timing, I wonder if as many people would feel they were noise. Maybe self-centered people could get into the spirit of expelling their worldly desires, eh. ** here is a nice article about Japanese New Years Traditions, including the 108 New Years Bells, which are rung at Buddhist Temples all over the country, sometimes for an hour or two, to dispel 108 worldly desires: https://www.japantoday.com/…/a-guide-to-new-year-traditions…

Ayame's Blog, February 23, 2017 Translation: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! I've been crazy busy with recording, and wow, I haven't blogged at all. There were various interesting news stories during this time too, they flowed right in one ear and out the other, huh? Heart-Shaking Major Announcement Well, having to do with a band, we hear the words "major announcement" all over the place, but I'm talking about NASA's major announcement last night, that quietly made news in the world. Previously it was announced that there may be liquid water on Jupiter's moon, Europa. *Water on Europa article in English:https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-hubble-spots-possible-water-plumes-erupting-on-jupiters-moon-europa Now there's an announcement concerning Exosolar Planets. Personally I was expecting that they would announce there is a planet with an ocean, and this was pretty close. "We have found various planets on which the existence of life would be feasible, 'habitable planets.'" -yahoo news, sorae.jp Source: http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20170223-00010000-sorae_jp-sctch *English language article: https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-telescope-reveals-largest-batch-of-earth-size-habitable-zone-planets-around It's about the range between the star (which would be the sun there) and the planets. The big idea from that is that water and conditions supporting life will exist in the proper temperature. The implication is that its likely there is life there, or an environment humankind could inhabit, or something like that, right? "Habitable zone" is the phrase we are starting to hear, circumstances that can support the existance of life, (spawning of life), these are the kind of words for the cosmic frontier. 39 Light-Years Away. Is That Close? Is That Far? "39 light-years away," they say that, but it doesn't really ping, does it? One "light year" is 9.5 billion kilometers. Nah, this doesn't ping. With humankind's technology right now, doing the simple calculation, it would take about 100,000 years, we can't just visit there casually, that's all I'm saying, y'know. 39 years at the speed of light, that is how long it would take for a super high powered electromagnetic wave to send an email from earth to over there, I'm saying it would take 39 years to be delivered. If there will be civilization over there, won't it take another 39 years to get the reply from your friends on earth, something like that? Saying it will take 78 years to exchange a message is definitely about right, the number becomes a little more real, huh? Discussing the size of the universe, 39 light-years is in our neighborhood. This clear and pretty winter season in Tokyo, you can see three big points, this Orion's Betelgeuse stands 642 light-years away, and how far is the famous Altair? it's 16 light years. By the way, there has been an announcement like this in the past. "A planet similar to earth was discovered circling the star nearest to our solar system. It is reported that there is a possiblity that water could exist on this rock. Researchers from a University in London, England announced it on August 25th in the British scientific journal 'Nature.' 8 countries are cooperating in the research..." Source: http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASJ8S4J2TJ8SULBJ003.html English language article: http://www.nature.com/news/earth-sized-planet-around-nearby-star-is-astronomy-dream-come-true-1.20445 This one is 4 light-years away, that's more in our neighborhood, right? Astronomy is progressing day by day, more and who knows what other new discoveries there will be, eh? I really wonder if they might announce the existance of extraterrestrials in my lifetime... http://ayano.me/archives/351

FLY HIGHER Translation by the North American Street Team. (Read more under the cut, click the link for the source.)
2016-12-12 18:10:34 Hello, Matenrou Opera fans all around the world. You might know of me as the one from the world of Japanese Seitai (chiropractor/massage therapy) who most highly recommends the band Matenrou Opera. My apologies for having more outrageously colored hair than the Visual Kei band members. (green hair)
On Friday, I went to Matenrou Opera’s Phoenix Rising tour final. Shinjuku BLAZE was the spot. Of course, I’m not here to play. Really ↓↓

↑↑ (Massage Room) It’s work, W-O-R-K. “There’s a spare back room in the live house,” that makes me happy. But hey, it’s not such a big deal, y’know, I did some maintenance on Sono-kun before Osaka, so now it was done in a snap. Even so, he got a special room ready for me. Here’s the album from coming into the new system, that’s what the current tour is about!
↓↓
youtube
↑↑ I love this album, I was really looking forward to it. Even while commuting between Yuando (beautiful health retreat) and patients, I’ve been listening these days and the impression is, “it’s awesome.” and I’m like, “Why wasn’t the opening day near Tokyo!?” Well, anyway, what I really mean is, I’ve been waiting for this day. What am I saying? Thinking about the opening day of the National Tour of the New Album, the middle, and the Final, I went there, but how about the guests too? was it good? starting from a point of uncertainty, going on to the perfect final, that is the aspect I wanted to see, that I was looking forward to.

Yo: "Is Matenrou Opera's first tour in the new system already over!?" he [Kedama-kun] said. It was a good time all around. Tomorrow will be a break for now. Let's look towards tomorrow. Let's do it!

Ayame’s tech blog update, translation:
Now, the new nostalgia, the cassette tape has its 50th anniversary!
The cassette tape's 50th birthday
2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the cassette tape. It seems there has been a limited release commemorative reproduction.
On November 25th Hitachi Maxell released a limited edition product reproduced based on the design of Cassette Tape "UD."
Source: http://ascii.jp/elem/000/001/244/1244993/
I have been looking at many various materials for planning my lesson, and I noticed that this year is the 50th anniversary. Speaking of which, these days, I haven't seen the cassette tape anymore, huh. The other day, I went in for the fools mate nico live, and on the shelf there were lots of cassette tapes and CDs. They all became super premium treasure demo tapes now. I felt like, whoa it's been awhile since I saw a cassette tape, we don't really have an occasion to handle cassette tapes everyday anymore. Even going to the studio, we don't come into contact with cassette tapes. There is an open reel machine, the cassette tape's prototype, in King Records' studio, but Matenrou Opera has never used it in our area.
As for music, created and heard, bought and sold, it is the digital era.
Nostalgic! Cassette tape memories.
Although so digital every day, for sure I still have touched cassette tapes. Back in the day, I used to rent the CDs and record them onto cassette tapes, and listen. MD (digital music?) became mainstream eventually, when the MD first came out that kind of media was expensive, so cassette tapes came in handy, eh.
Digital tools can jump to the next song in a reasonable way, random playback can be set up, but of course cassette tapes couldn't do any of those things. When you wanted to go to the next song you had to fast forward. Making a mix tape of favorite songs, recording it piece by piece, and the link? It was exciting when the day came that you could recognize and automatic fast forward to the next song, eh.
In the old days, the cassette tape could cut off inside, and it seems there was a problem with tangling, but personally I don't recall anything like that. I guess the quality has improved well over the generations.
What about the old sound? Analog sound movement, there's a lot of controversy regarding it, saying what's good and bad, I don't like all this speaking brashly about personal opinions, eh, LOL.
And looking forward? The future of the cassette tape?
It is said that with Enka (traditional Japanese ballad) and such, with genera purchased by old folks there is a demand to market music on the cassette tape. So, for example, to say Matenrou Opera's music could be marketed on the cassette tape, it's a difficult thing. Mass producing it on cassette tape would be pretty pricey.
They say that analog records are slowly garnering new attention. But analog cassette tapes just aren't gathering the same attention. Digital music can be copied without changing the sound, copying analog music changes the sound. There is no cut and paste copying, it takes 60 minutes to copy a 60 minute album. Like that, how you assemble music might be interesting too. For teaching this weekend I will tell the story of these kind of media, going back from ancient times in Mesopotamia.
