Tell me why I received an email from HR telling me my mid year review is 30 days past due but I haven’t received a single email about the review until today. Trash.

Dream jobs aren’t real, I am convinced.

My father is 200 miles away in a hospital I don’t know with a heart problem I don’t understand and I don’t even feel comfortable telling my management but how am I supposed to focus knowing all of that?

I feel so disillusioned after being put on a performance improvement plan.

I feel like my manager, who now has to sit down with me while I talk to our PM, sent me down a rabbit hole directing me to do my next ticket.

Like he misled me with the direction he wants me to take.

So do I do it my way?

My PM gave me a task that I feel is pretty big (we don’t size tickets because we don’t adhere to many agile practices as a dev team). I get in there and think “Oh it looks like it will be copy and paste.”

It’s so fucked up, I look at the person to Blame and it’s of course the intern that existed before I came on. Who the fuck approved this code honestly.

More hypocrisy:

Me: submits a ticket

Senior dev: REJECTED, it looks terrible on mobile

Me: we don’t make this for mobile? (The software is meant for iPads no smaller than 11”, and there has never been mobile design made for this project)

Manager: IT NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIVE ON MOBILE

…later

Me: Reviews PR, notices a gap between two components that looks a little too big, makes a comment that I even label as a nitpick

Senior Dev: ignores comment, brushes me off

Me: in good faith, shows them what I meant by the comment by attaching a screenshot of the page with the spacing outlined

Senior Dev: It’s IN THE DESIGN

Me: Ok. (Silently quits)

Me: I am looking forward to feeling like a confident code reviewer

Manager: it isn’t about approving PRs, it’s about learning the code in them

Me: roger dodger (reviews PRs, visually)

Manager: you need to review more PRs

Me: reviews a PR, notices a small change and leaves a comment (cautiously proud that I noticed something)

Senior Dev: what are you talking about? (Resolves comment without addressing it or waiting for clarification)

Me: this is why I don’t review PRs

Manager: it isn’t about reviewing PRs, it’s about learning the code in them

Bitch what do you want me to do. Is there a button I can press that acknowledges, “we don’t trust your PR stamp of approval, but please show you review them.”

Weird turn of events:

My company is about to tank but they’re trying to keep the employees from knowing and fleeing.

They’re trying to make us leave so they put a few of us on Performance Improvement Plans.

Which is wild and we were all totally blindsided.

So I guess I’m job hunting.

A Story of Ahhhhh-Hope!

I have been a backend dev. A full stack dev. A QA. An automation engineer. Now I am in my first front end role.

I am using Tailwind and having a hell of a time.

I was issued a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 running Windows 8…

It’s small as hell.

I’m a remote employee with no monitors of her own.

I’m having a bad time as you know from my other posts.

Well today, I learned something I didn’t have to worry about in my other roles. I worked on the whole stack with an external monitor and a 16” MBP.

This machine has it default scale set at 150%.

That’s why I felt like I SUCKED and couldn’t figure anything out. My screen was just magnified! 🔎
