It was previously unknown to me and Nicole that Sal’s current FC, Nico Tortorella, uses they/them pronouns. Out of respect for them and not to erase their identity, Nicole has chosen to change Sal’s FC to an actor that aligns with Sal’s pronouns. So from now on, Sal’s FC will be Casey Deidrick. Sal’s bio will be updated to reflect this.

Task #4: Color

There is so much symbolism behind color, so it’s interesting to ask: what color best reflects who your character is?. For this task you get to explore just that!

I was inspired by psdsofcolor’s Pantone template. Based on it (or actually using the template if you like it) please create an edit based on color that can show your character’s personality, their style, what they like, quotes/phrases, etc. (If it helps, here you can find examples of a Pantone edits I’ve done for various characters). Let your creativity run wild!

If you don’t have access to Photoshop to make the edit, I’d be happy to help out. Just send me a message with your character’s color, the images you’d like me to include as well as the personality traits to accompany them.

There’s not a deadline to post this, so go ahead and do this whenever you want. Don’t forget to tag your posts with codearvis:task 4.

My lovelies, taking into account the poll results, the ice sector was the one that won to be released first (I have to admit I’m pretty pumped for this one, I’ve been waiting a while to share with you all the weird stuff I came up with for it!). So the pages in the main regarding this sector have been updated so you can start reading about it. Here you can find a general description of the Delta sector: The Grid map has also been updated to reflect the new area our characters will have access to.

As you will see in the Delta sector page, our children will have to face some strange creatures in almost every level. As the plot progresses I will release the detailed information about the Geists, the Amarok, the Chimeras, The Endless and The Warden in The Grid sideblog so you can learn more about exactly what they’ll be up against.

Hey, my lovelies! Since Juliet Mills is going to be leaving Turing Academy at the end of the semester a successor will take over The Epigram soon. I wanted to introduce this NPC to the game so that her presence is known before she becomes the new editor in chief for the academy’s student newspaper in May. Ines Sari is an NPC that the characters will be able to interact with (questions or even threads) via The Epigram blog starting today!

Event: The Idol — [ Status: Completed ]

“Suddenly, everything started to glow, with the intricate patterns on the walls and floors being filled with gold as the idol began to melt. And then, the temple started to shake and rumble.”  

The idol is returned to its rightful temple and everything is quickly swallowed in bright, golden light. It feels like the whole level shakes violently, about to fully crumple upon them, stealing away whatever lives they have left. Panic sets in as they scream for their Mastermind friend in the outside world to help them, but with the virus finalizing its intending purpose, he can’t pull them out.

Is this their end?

The Hacker calls out for the wounded Timebomb. The Phoenix no longer mounts his loyal beast and can’t feel it anywhere. The Maverick has completed the task but more than giving them a victory, they fear the idol has brought doom. The golden liquid that was once the idol flows until it reaches each of the users and pools at their feet. That is when everything stops, like time freezing instantly.

Holographic letters hover before each of the users: NEW SKILL UNLOCKED. Each user has their avatar information displayed in front of them where their new skill and its accompanying limitation appears listed next to the ones they already possess.

The virus is 100% loaded, taking hold and spreading all across The Grid. The level finally fades and the four users wake up in their world.

The four users (Jack, Sal, Bas and June) that took part in this event have gained a new skill. Please message the main with the new skill and its limitation so that the character bios can be updated to reflect this.

Level 40 was the last level of the Gamma sector. The next time the gang enters The Grid, they will do so in the first level of the Delta sector, Level 41. Changes will be made soon in the main to reflect what the users can expect to find in Delta. A notice post will be made once the information is available in our sectors page, so stay tuned!

Also, regarding the Delta sector, I’m letting you guys pick what it could be! I’ve had the general outline for all sectors for a long time but I’d like to include you in our building of The Grid and let you choose the order in which we’ll venture into those worlds. So click here to vote!

As always, depending on what your character went through during Level 40, The Grid can take its toll on their bodies and mental state. Make sure to reflect this in your following threads.

Event: The Idol

The virus has been released inside The Grid. In the real world, The Mastermind can see on his screens how it begins to tear through the game, infecting enemy programs to turn them against their Creator’s will, beginning to take a stand to protect the users. Inside the virtual reality, the level begins to collapse, gradually shattering in pieces, pixels flickering off as everything slowly disintegrates.

Crossing the maze-like city of ruins has now become a race against time. The stone idol glows brightly in The Maverick’s hand, signaling they’re on the right track. Perhaps over the Phoenix’s tamed creature the users will accomplish their goal. Or perhaps the world around them will continue to collapse, swallowing them with it.

The gang must be faster now in finding the Idol’s temple, otherwise they risk being badly hurt (and lose lives) or being forced to exit the level and starting over.

Fear not, the level collapsing is a one time thing, as what still remains of G.A.I.A. inside The Grid is trying to fight off the infection. Future levels won’t continue to collapse once the virus has settled in the programs.

03. BIOGRAPHY

From childhood and even through his early teenage years it wasn’t glaringly obvious what path Jacob would follow later in life. His younger sister Celine always excelled in chemistry and biology, determining early on where her interests laid. His little brother Ian displayed had a particular talent for languages and an insightful mind for their structures, rules and phonetics. Their futures were clear: a biochemist and a linguist. And Jacob was tumbling from one thing to the next, never quite figuring out what was his thing.

Somehow, his appreciation for computer games (a useless hobby, according to his mother) led him to learn some basics of code. And over time it wasn’t just basics anymore but a fairly good understanding, above what average sixteen year-olds might know about it. And then on his sophomore year of high school he had the luck of being taught Maths by one Ms. Fielding. Jacob had never been labeled an excellent student, never a genius in any capacity, but he truly began to soar then. Suddenly it became clear to him how much he loved the subject and that he’d simply always lacked someone passionate in their teaching that could make the subject genuinely interesting. It was fascinating for him and embraced how much he enjoyed Ms. Fielding’s class fully, asking questions after class that went beyond what had been taught that day, doing his own research and reading just to sate the hunger for more knowledge in that field. At last he knew what his path was.

Jacob moved from his hometown of San Francisco to go study at Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Brown University. Unlike his average performance for most of his school years, he absolute excelled there. He got his Master’s degree at his alma mater and even left the country to get a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence in the Università della Svizzera Italiana. Since his return to the US in 2015, he’s been giving lectures in various universities (but most often at Brown University) and after joining efforts with experts in the field of Biomedical Informatics, he has been working at The AI Lab in Brown University since early 2018.

Event: The Idol

In the last level of the Beta sector the group retrieved a stone idol. Throughout their journey to pass the levels of the Gamma sector they hadn’t yet put that strange relic to use. Until now.

With the ups and down both inside and outside the virtual reality, some members of the group finally venture into level 40, the very last of the Gamma sector. If they have learned anything from their previous forays into The Grid is that the last levels of a sector can be more dangerous than most...

There will be vicious sea creatures lurking in the dark, ready to make their kill. The Ruins of Kandam will prove difficult to navigate due to its maze-like structure. And of course, there will be simple programs guarding the sacred temple where the idol must be placed as well as System Monitors tasked with attacking intruders. Neither will allow them to get close or to enter so easily.

However, venturing into this level can be the perfect time to test the virus a hacker and the timebomb rogue created. Will the programs that are meant to end the users turn against the AI that created them? Or will their programming be unchangeable and they’ll annihilate the intruders that dare face them?

OOC Information below:

The end goal of level 40 is to pass the obstacles in order to deliver to stone idol to its rightful place in a temple. Navigating the maze-like ruins will be hard so the group must device a plan to avoid getting lost. They must be careful against the attacks of the sea creatures as well as the programs guarding the entrance of the temple.

Important note: the closer they get to the temple, the stone idol will begin to glow. They can use it as a tool to make their way, following the right path dictated by the idol’s mysterious glow.

Plot drops will take place during the event to give necessary information to the players.

The event will start on Saturday January 4th at 12:00 AM (Central Time).

Event: Reunion

Thanks to Jack’s idea to host a dinner at their place the group will get a chance to get together for the first time in months. Will the group’s bond strengthen after this or will it continue to fall apart? Only time will tell.
