“Bertie”
ai//looks mid/late 30s//former companion//aware//stephen merchant
Though he’s now the best barista in Leto (the girls on the night shift gave him a certificate and everything!), Bertie started life as a companion for an older lady, Maggie Newfield, whose family neither wanted to take care of her themselves nor deal with the ongoing expense of putting her in a home. Following her death, the family sold him on, memory intact, to a coffee house franchise.
What they never realised was just how close Maggie and Bertie had become in their years together. How the sunny, cheerful a.i. had helped a bitter, lonely woman reclaim some of her youth before illness robbed her of her life.
Or indeed just how profoundly he would miss her...

alias: Danny age: 26 timezone: GMT favourite plots: Things to do with the line between programming and real thought, electrical impulses and the soul. The differences in the way humans and AIs perceive the world and react to each other. I’m a big fan of emotional intimacy between humans and machines, though tbh I’ve written more than my fair share of straight up robot porn in my day! I’m also kind of an angst hound and am rarely happier than when I’ve made myself cry. favourite faces: Sam Stockman, Edward Hogg, Jonathan Woodward, Stephen Merchant... I tend to randomly latch onto people and decide I want to make characters from them. what sort of things are you looking forward to? A relaxed atmosphere and a chance to have some fun with AI tropes what do you want to see from us? So long as the formatting doesn’t get excessively fiddly I’m up for anything anything else? I have a day job that sometimes leaves me emotionally drained but I endeavour to post as much as possible.
