A Simple Cup of Coffee
A Simple Cup of Coffee
It all started with a simple cup of coffee and a song.
By Michael Harrington
It usually starts this way. After the first few minutes with a really good cup of coffee, and if I’m alone, my eyes close around the past.  Sometimes it’s the kind of memory that takes me home to Texas.
Most of the time it’s the little things that move me. Like the touch of moonlight through the leaves of a live oak…

Simple Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
Simple Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
The immortal Pumpkin Spice Latte – loved by many, and hated by others (mainly because this is about a tasty coffee drink, and not really the coffee itself). I love a good treat myself, and prefer to make them with as many real ingredients as possible. There will be no bottled syrups here.

How to Brew French Press - The Coffee Lovers Definitive Guide
[dropcap]F[/dropcap]rench Press Coffee is one of my favorite brew methods. It’s a simple process – relatively easy to do, and quite forgiving. So it turns out that French Press is one of the best brew methods for those of you getting into drinking finer coffee at home.
In any case, it is often the method that I recommend for certain types of coffee. There is a caveat because the type of coffee…

Fellow Stagg Dripper
Fellow is a company I’ve been following for some time now. They caught my eye with their beautiful kettle over a year ago, and I’ve been eyeballing it since.
This past April, at SCA’s Global Coffee Expo, I ran into the folks at Fellow and they showed me one of their new drippers.
Now I’d seen a little bit of these drippers before –…

How The Water You Brew With Will Make or Break Your Coffee...
How The Water You Brew With Will Make or Break Your Coffee…
Watch this episode above, or listen to it on Coffee Lovers Radio
Water plays a big role in the brewing of your coffee. As someone interested in making really good coffee accessible to everyone – regardless of your knowledge/experience – I’ve taken a pretty casual approach to the water that you use.
In the past, I might have told you…

Home Brew: Kalita Wave Kit
Home Brew: Kalita Wave Kit
The Kalita Wave has quickly become on of my favorite brewing methods at home.
Those of you who have read the magazine for a long time, and enjoyed conversations via email, probably know that I have long used a Chemex for home brewing.
A time ago my large Chemex broke and I switched to a small 3 cup.  During the interim, I started thinking about getting something else…
The Kalita Wave is popular…

Welcome to the first Coffee Lovers Radio that was simultaneously live streamed!
I’ll link the recording of the live stream further on down, there’s a pretty cool section in the second half where we brew a syphon.
So, we probably won’t live stream the recordings of Coffee Lovers…

Also check out the Coffee Lovers Radio Page – subscribe to the email newsletter and get the show on iTunes
The beginning of 2017 was quite the rush for some of us in coffee. As you know, January 27th and 28th had CoffeeCon in Seattle at the Armory.  On the last show, Jesse and I talked very briefly about that (though we didn’t share much).
February 25th and 26th saw CoffeeCon down in Los Angeles…

A Bunch of New Stuff - Cup of Joe 3-6-17 #coffeeloverstv
Tumblr media
My Cup of Joe episodes lately have been a bit erratic.
For those of you new to these videos, they are my sort of ‘behind the scenes’ of what’s going on with Coffee Lovers Magazine and other coffee related stuff. Sometimes I talk about just stuff in coffee that’s on my mind, other times – like this one – I’m catching y’all up on…

Revisiting Haitian Coffee in the latest Issue - Coffee Lovers Magazine
Revisiting Haitian Coffee in the latest Issue – Coffee Lovers Magazine
On Haiti
A little less than a year ago, I had someone email me.
A reader of the magazine, she said she was embarking on a journey to Haiti, and wished to share the stories of the people in coffee there.
She said “Coffee is my passion.  What is so interesting to me about coffee is that it binds us together on a global scale.  Coffee permeates the borders of nations, of cultures, and of languages.”

Candy Canes and Holiday Blends - Anchorhead Coffee
Candy Canes and Holiday Blends - Anchorhead Coffee #coffeeloverstv
Oops!
A series of blunders lead to the lateness of this particular episode. I had originally planned to record and publish this just before the new year. Then I got sick. It’s really hard to make videos on the taste of coffee when I can’t taste anything. So that was a bit of a bummer.
Then CoffeeCon came along and I kind of…
