MANGA REVIEW: Hell’s Warden Higuma

Author: Natsuki Hokami
Length: 3 Volume (19 chapters)
Status: completed
Genre: Action, Shounen, Supernatural
Ok I just want to say, dude is hot
Thats it, thats my review :)
JK
This series feels kinda nostalgic ngl, the art style and theme seems like something I would be into when I was a baby-weeb and even today. There’s just big one issue big I’ll get into that shorty
So the whole synopsis of this series is this high-school kid named Higuma who is a Hell Warden which is basically someone that kills demons that escaped from hell. Simple.
The plot is quite interesting, but the issue isn’t part of the plot or characters or even theme. The issue is the amount of volumes/chapters. This series honestly has potential to be a quite popular series but it ends right when it introduces the characters and the plot; it ends on a huge cliffhanger where the protaganists’ are about to go up against the villian..... and that’s it! That’s the whole series! Just three volumes of introducing characters, their back stories, the theme, the villains, and thats the end...
Now I believe this is a Shounen Jump series and Shounen Jump is well known be the last word when it comes to when an author should end their series. I don’t know what really happened, but I believe the author had to end the Hell Warden quite early due to something like sells or idk.
Other than that, maybe the author can make a comeback and continue the story but other than that my rating is:
7/10

MANGA REVIEW; Hell’s Paradise

Author: Yuji Kaku
Length: 13 volumes (127 chapters)
Status: Completed
Genre: Action fiction, Dark fantasy, Psychological thriller
My review, woohoo!
So I came across this manga when I was at my local B&N in the manga section (my happy place) and I noticed how unique the book cover was. I didn’t have enough money to buy it that day but luckily it was in the viz website so I read it digitally rather than hardcopy.
So to give a small plot summary, Gabimaru the Hollow, known to be an emotionless and cold ninja, is one of many criminals sent to an isolated island in search for the Elixir of Immortality in return for their release. However, the island is not a normal island as it is filled with mysteries with death lurking at every corner. Basically the search soon becomes a game of survival in “paradise.”
Right off the bat, the story drives you straight into its explicit visuals and dark psychological story line. I won’t lie though, the first chapter did confused me that I had to read a 2 or 3 times to get a small grasp on what’s going on, but the rest of the story line is smooth sailing. There’s wasn’t a character that I despised as I really enjoyed each character’s personality and character development. For example Gabimaru; as I mentioned he is meant to be cold and emotionless and not having a care if he lives or dies, but you start to see his emotions spring out when he talks about how his wife is practically the one thing that makes him want to return home after the mission. But that was the thing that came back to bite me as I might just consider this series “Game of Thrones elements” (I never watched GoT but you’ll get what I mean)
Also the Aza brothers truly stole my heart the more I read. I shit you not, Chobe is just villian Bakugou, prove me wrong lmao
But yeah, I highly recommend this story, if you are into psychological thriller and historical themes (like me) but I warn that there are explicit panels sprinkled around, and for some reason those panels would show up when I’m around my family so I was uncomfy.
*I don’t know if it is Shonen Jump but it is on Viz for free if you have membership, please support the creator <3
Rating: 8.5/10
