I love the fact that we used to have masculine, feminine, neuter nouns and 5 cases in English but during & around middle English we had so many vowel shifts, softening of endings, and constant mutations that people literally just dismantled most of it. in the Viking invasions they just gave up on using genders for nouns. later they just somehow collectively just gave up and just used formal "you" instead of thou thee etc. and earlier they softened the ends of words so much it jut disintegrated 4 of the case-systems.
