DESCIENCE Research on the runway. As a result of HS2 train - Manchester (known for it's textiles) Birmingham (known for it's science) and Leeds (known for it's wool) will be connected. This led me to think about merging science and fashion. The world wide web revealed this project in America - which fuses the exact two mediums I was thinking about for my 3rd year project.... http://www.fashiondescience.com

Final reflection
Is that really it? Am I officially done with 2nd year? I can't quite get my head around how quickly it all has gone. Effectively I am a 3rd year! Exciting, but also rather scary. It has been a great year. I am very pleased with what I have achieved and what I have learned. Simone did a fantastic job taking us through planning. Once again, Fab brought in the more conceptual aspects and with these skills combined, we were able to dummy run what will be expected of us next year, so I guess it shouldn't be all that daunting? Unit X P.2 was, as expected, challenging due to the group work aspect of the unit. Although I produced ideas and had a large input to the work, I did find myself sitting back whilst things were being hurled out from my other team members. In the end (in this situation) I realised that I am perhaps more of a listener, a broader picture 'overlooker' and once I have listened, I try and find a way to bring the plan into focus. It's the same old set up of working with many creative minds. Everyone has ideas, it's just trying to pin the right one - that everyone is happy with. Bee Criativo (all 5 of us) were hard workers. Focused and ambitious. In the end we all felt that we worked well together and I think that showed in the work we produced. I remember a real selling point of the course when I came for my interview at Manchester School of Art. It was this collaborative cross media programme 'Unit X' which allowed interiors to work alongside other creatives. I have certainly made friends in other fields through this unit and I hope that this will come in use next year and beyond, graphics certainly said that they'd be more than happy to offer their expertise if and when I might need them - for this I have to thank Unit X!

'Final 5' presentations to the exec's at National Football Museum. An early rise to set up for our presentations today. Nervously we gathered on the 4th floor of the museum and waited for the executives to arrive. David Crow the Dean, Joe McCullagh Head of Design & Alan Holmes International Director were all present and it was great for them all to see our work. Bee Criativo were the 4th group to present. Everyone did a great job and it felt good to be part of the process. The feedback was positive and director of the museum Kevin Moore said that if there was enough budget, he'd like to implement aspects of everyones concepts. I saw Alan and Liz nod enthusiastically when my installation concept around the samba VS FUNK music genres was presented. Liz told our group that she felt our presentation was a cohesive explanation of what we wanted to do do and that it seemed like we had fused together as one unit, rather than Interiors and Graphics. Later that day we discovered that we had missed out on the opportunity to have our work realised to "Inavacao" - the last group to present. Well done those guys.

Universal Everything/2nd yr Graphics & Interior Designers at the National Football Museum, Manchester. The exhibition kicked off around 6pm. We all gathered and observed. It was great to see all the other students work and it was clear that it was of high standard. There was a bar and the DJ played some nice tunes. We were waiting for it to get dark so that Universal Everything's exhibition would be fully effective.

Football museum exhibition banner setup. Each group had to allocate two members to set up our 'Stand' at the football museum. Me on bike and Sabika on bus, transported these bits to the museum. We tried to work out a way that we could do away with the box, but the contents might have got damaged. So, I took the heavier things (and Sabika's laptop/books etc) on my bike and carrying a box half the size of her, Sabika took the bus.

We were given set constraints so that although different, all banners would appear the same, to uniform them as one exhibition.

Post presentation 'Banner' discussion. It was great to have such enthused feedback from John at this discussion and to hear that we had been 'upgraded' as Lucy put it. Universal Everything had a private viewing of an exhibition involving audience participation, projection and the use of sound. Because our work was so well received, John Oshae invited us to exhibit our banners alongside Universal everything at this private viewing at the football museum. http://www.universaleverything.com Bee Creativo had a short meeting after this to put down what we wanted to see on our banner - then started putting it together.

Final presentation slides. Notes from the previous presentation were taken on board and changes were made. Really good final presentation. John's feedback was extremely positive. At one stage he even said "sorry I keep going on about how good it is." Emily got very excited by the installation plaques and Liz commented on one of the mock up installations - saying that the knives used were perhaps not the most appropriate.

Dry-run presentation May 8th
I couldn't make this presentation but knew the girls would deliver a great job anyhow! And they did. It went well and we were given the following feedback: - Could we make it more fun? - Clearer explanations. - Have separate page for stereotype, bigger picture and inspiration. - Visual and location on a separate page. - Establish the concept better (e.g. Miranda on the front page…) - Page layout clearer (supporting images smaller)

Installation explanations - inside booklet
1. Curing the fruit hat syndrome
Utilising the outside of Manchester's National Football Museum we intend to establish the typical stereotypes of Brazil. Samba, Crime, Carnival, Rainforest and Christ the Redeemer are just a few of the things that come to mind when first thinking about Brazil. Although they are part of Brazilian culture, there is so much more to discover. We invite visitors to come inside and explore five installations that intend to show the reality beyond these stereotypes. 2. Curing the statue syndrome
Everybody recognizes the statue of Christ the Redeemer but there is so much more to Brazilian architecture than just this one statue. Modernism has been a predominate force in Brazilian architecture – it has lasted longer than in other country and has never really died. We have selected a number of important architects and recreated their famous structures in miniature 3D printed models and assembled them in the shape of Christ the redeemer. We intend to make the viewer aware of the great variety of architectural pieces and invite them to look beyond the well known. 3. Curing the rainforest syndrome
When thinking about Brazil's vegetation, most people imagine the Amazon rainforest. It does cover 60% of Brazils landmass, however there is also Pine & Palm Forest, Savanna, Grassland and Wetland, which account for the remaining 40%. We intend to represent this in a pie-chart installation, which invites visitors to wander through a rainforest-maze and discover the non-rainforest areas. 4. + 5. Curing the Samba syndrome
Let's do the samba! Everybody likes a good dance to this traditional music. With our installation we would like to introduce the viewer to the 'Funk' genre, which was born in the slums of Brazil. It is predominately black music, produced in make shift studios with basic equipment. It is in the LAN Houses (Local area network) that music files are shared via MSN between Brazilian DJ's. LAN houses have been introduced to the Favela's all over Brazil. In Rocinha - Brazil's largest slum – there are 130 LAN houses. Within the Immersive cinema in the museum, visitors will have the opportunity to create their very own piece of funk music while experiencing these typical street parties. 6. Curing the crime syndrome.
Whereas crime is an important issue in Brazil, we intend to demonstrate that not everybody can be accused and that one should not generalize. Brazil's crime rates are actually going down. For our installation we have used fake knifes to create the word 'Not guilty' and invite the viewer to look beyond first impressions. 7. Curing the Carnival syndrome Brazilian carnival is the most well known thing about Brazil. One might think that they celebrate all year round but the reality is rather different. Samba schools work the whole year toward just one week of shows and parties. Our installation intends to represent the fact that Carnival is just a small part of the year and a lot of work goes into it. We have chosen ordinary T-shirts to represent the clothes that are worn all year round and added one extravagant carnival costume. By adding the dates we intend to symbolize the countdown to this surprisingly short event.

The brazil wood tree was Brazil's earliest commercially exploited product, which is what gave Brazil it's name. This is why our installation plaques are backed with wood. The numbers used would also link to the booklet which would give visitors explanations and information about the exhibition.
