The way the fandom idolizes Kajganich makes my skin crawl. I hope it won't be Gaiman situation a few years down the line.

"people dont talk enough about colonialism" "all i see is people complaining about how no one talks about colonialism" both sides of this argument are missing the key detal that people ARE in fact talking about colonialism and racism and sexism, etc etc. it's just not happening in the shipping echo chambers that lots of fans often find themselves in. if you want to have more nuanced discussions, there are spaces for that! engage with the scholars and historians and people who are diving into the real-life events! we're all over the place in this fandom, you just need to step out of your comfort zone a little and go looking!

I am so glad this fandom doesn’t have ship wars. Just had some flashbacks from ten years ago and I love that we are mature enough (as a fan culture? or is it that the average terror fan generally is an adult?) to go “you like this, I like that, I don’t fw your thing but you do you” instead of descending into bombastic hate mail and screaming matches.
Good job being functional, buds!

I see in this fandom a lot of people who want to understand colonialism and the British empire better and integrate that understanding into their understanding of the show, but don't know where to look to get that understanding. honestly, I'm in the same boat too. what the fandom could really benefit from is recommendations for entry level essays, books or documentaries on the subject, intended for a non-academic audience. so, if you're reading this and have recs, I'd appreciate hearing them and am sure many others would too!
In the same boat, haha, get it..? In all seriousness, I don't feel qualified to give any recs, but I would welcome them!

hi i'm sorry if this doesn't quite count as a confession, i'm just too shy to post publicly. but i recently rediscovered the album 'science from an easy chair' by have gun, will travel! i wonder how many of you terrors and general polar exploration enjoyers know of it, it's a really great album and sort of based around shackleton and the endurance etc! while not exactly terror related, i think some of the very talented people in the fandom could make some gutwrenching edits to some of the songs on it! i'm mainly thinking goodnight, sweet chariot or good old shakespeare 🤔 *beaming my vision to everyones brains*

"If you want more content on some topic why don't you make it???" bruv, this is the fandom that will jump you for disagreeing that wearing a dress makes someone a trans woman or that being an alcoholic 100% means that their dick don't work. I don't feel like opening my mouth on any of my takes at this point.

I'm still mad we were robbed of the Walls/Diggle dynamic on the show, it could have been the bear4bear this world needed.

The best lay you would get from anyone on either of the ships would be with Blanky, hands down. Easy.

I'm not Inuit, I belong to another Indigenous group, but this fandom's approach to colonialism feels so fake to me. It's a bunch of white folks trying to score some brownie points before the Inuit fans who don't exist, because the show's Inuit characters barely have any meat on them. It's ok to be in it for the white men making out scurvy style, you don't have to posture around faking some strong feelings about the minority you have nothing to do with.

I have not seen a single blog or person act like they are morally superior for liking Hickey and the mutineers but I have now seen a confession to this blog where someone thinks its possible for rank and files sailors to be somehow more culpable for racism than OFFICERS OF THE BRITISH NAVY

Silna, Aja, the Netsilik Hunter, Kuvijuq and his family, and the other shaman could stand to be much more appreciated by the fandom at large. I am rather judgmental as to why they are not. Silna's character and storyline Make the show imo, and research and fanon can flesh out the very good bones of the characters with little overall screentime so that they may be well portrayed in fanworks just as certain white male characters who also have little overall screentime are portrayed. Even meta that discusses how pivotal they are, or that examines their interiority and how their lives are impacted by the show's events, is always so welcome. Please! Include the Inuit characters!

oh the things i would do to james fitzjames. i want to eat him alive. i want to kick him and yank his hair and slam him against walls just to see his eyes water so prettily,, and then i’d bend him over the wardroom table and give him at least twenty bitemarks and an intricately detailed lesson as to why god blessed him with a prostate

my confession is that i find armitozer boring because 90% of art & stories ive seen for it are too wholesome. i mean i watch the death and tragedy show for death and tragedy, or at least for drama and repression and bad choices, im not interested in ship dynamics where characters get together with someone theyd be "healthy" with
