For the word-headcanons, let's get a little weird/lame/silly - Earth, Fire, Water, Wind for A/A! Have fun ;)

This WAS fun.  Thanks for always giving me an opportunity to indulge in my silly writing games.  :D

Earth

Andy and April don’t do much when it comes to celebrating anniversaries, but at some point, April stops pretending stuff like that is dumb.  So, on their fifth anniversary they decide to take another trip to the Grand Canyon.  This time they don’t have to steal her dad’s car, and Champion comes along with them.

They go again for their tenth anniversary, just to keep up with the tradition. After that they stop for a while, mostly because they’re too busy becoming parents.

Then, years later, after all four kids are born and the youngest is about five years old, they make one huge family trip.  April totally pretends not to cry seeing Andy walking around with their children, pointing things out to them and holding the younger ones up so they have a better view.  Andy openly does cry when he sees how beautiful April looks, cuddled with the kids in a massive pile of blankets as they eat snacks and stare up at the stars appearing in the deepening sky.  He takes a picture of that moment, and it becomes his absolute favorite photo of his family.

Fire

The Ludgate-Dwyers decide to host the Fourth of July at their house one summer, when Jack is nearly three years old.  Both the Knope-Wyatt family and (to April’s annoyance) the Perkins-Traeger clan join them.  They spend the day and evening cooking barbecue and eating s’mores in a backyard fire pit that Andy threw together with some spare bricks and a few logs.

As a gift, Ann brings Jack’s six-month-old sister Allie a bright pink stuffed unicorn.  Instead of handing it to Allie like he was asked to do by an unsuspecting Ann, he brings it directly to the fire pit and tosses it into the flames.  April has never been so proud before in her life, and promptly bursts into happy tears, hugging her son as tightly as she can.  Andy just laughs, thinking it’s the most hilarious thing he’s ever seen.

Water

At some point, April convinces Andy that Jack should take swim lessons.  Andy initially refuses, only because he could “definitely teach Jack himself,” but after a little coaxing and reminding him that Jack won’t take it seriously if his dad is the teacher, they sign him up.  Jack takes to it easily, as does Allie after him when it’s her turn.  April sits on the bleachers with Andy, trying to remain calm while watching her babies floating on their backs and treading water without the help of the teacher.  Andy always wears his swimsuit underneath, just in case he has to “jump in and save them” (as he likes to put it).

When it comes time for Melody’s turn a few years later, she cries and wants out of the water immediately.  April’s reserve is tested when the teacher tells them to let her cry it out.  She actually has to get up and walk away, dragging a teary-eyed Andy with her when the little girl starts to wail for Mommy and Daddy.  By the third lesson, a frustrated April has it out with the instructor, pulling her daughter out of the program and finally allowing Andy to try his hand at teaching Melody himself.  Of course, she learns right away with her Daddy.

There is only one instance when Andy actually does jump into the pool at swim lessons, and it isn’t because one of the kids needs help.  It’s because April dares him to do it.

Wind (Kinda cheating here…going more with “Air”)

For the triplets fifth birthday party, Leslie and Ben rent an inflatable bounce house for the kids and their friends from school.  (Tom actually recommends the E720 pirate ship and bubbles bounce house, but Leslie turns him down after Ben reminds her that Jean-Ralphio would often hang out in there while the doomed entertainment company was trying to find it’s footing.)

When Andy and April arrive at the party, Andy gets so excited that he practically takes it over, until Ben has to go ask him to let the kids back in.  He does, but reluctantly.  While the kids break away to have cake and ice cream, Andy and April sneak back in for some fun alone time while everyone is distracted. Luckily no one notices, although Ben looks suspicious when he sees the two of them hurrying back in time for presents.

The following year, Leslie makes sure to order two of them: one for the kids, and one especially for Andy.
