So it’s already a favorite trope but something I’ll go fucking insane for in visual whump is when the screen blurs and darkens and does the blink thing as a character passes out. Very normal bout this.

Nonhuman whumpee that needs to be given enough sedatives to kill five elephants to be drowsy in a med/lab whump situation. They only do it when they really need to, considering how much it costs.

Thinking about a stoic whumpee slowly breaking down.
Thinking about the rigidity, the tensing. They hold themselves so tightly as if the slightest relaxation will break the flood gates and they can do that.
What breaks them? What makes them cry out? Not in physical pain. They're well accustomed to physical pain, welcome it because it's liveable. They can cry out when they hurt. It's understandable. They're in survival mode, this is life or death. It's easy to push their emotions aside when they're busy keeping themselves alive.
But when they're rescued? When they're safe? When meals and showers come regularly, when their door locks from the inside, and the sheets are warm and clean? Everything they have is so much better but it's all so wrong. No matter how much they shower they still feel dirty. The food all tastes like what they were given by whumper. The door being locked means nothing. Something has to be in front of it and even that's not enough. The bed is too soft, they can't sleep unless they're on the floor.
The slow realization that they might have left physically but what happened is permanent. You don't get to ignore it anymore. You don't get to be robotic anymore. You have emotions, as much as you try to pretend otherwise. Keep pushing it down. Keep slipping away to the bathroom hoping your caretaker dosnt notice your puffy eyes afterward.
Give me whump that dosnt hit fully until you're safe. You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.

Whumpee who is disconnected from their emotions, but can still feel the physical effects. They can feel their heart pounding out of their chest, and tears still leak from their eyes, but they don't feel any of the emotion that comes with those things, confused as to why their eyes just won't stop watering.

Whumpee being so sick that the other characters are talking about them as if they aren't even there, because their consciousness is waning so much that that's basically true

caretaker helping whumpee get into a comfortable position.
in bed, maybe. whumpee’s broken limbs are wrapped in plaster casts; caretaker elevates them and helps prop whumpee up on a mountain of pillows.
or in caretaker’s arms. cradling whumpee’s bruised and battered body — cushioning whumpee’s head against the crook of their elbow.
there’s so much love in these gestures. “let me make you hurt a little less,” it says. “let me ease your pain,” it says. “let me give you relief,” it says.
