Process of cushion
In this process I died my cushion front piece by shibori dying it using marbles to almost create a ripple wave effect to then later embroid upon this turned out well doing so I used Natural dyes and almost tried to create pastel colours to use to not completely takeover the whole piece so it wasn’t to eye catching so other pieces on it could stand out but to still give something to the background.

Process of cushion
Some more steps along my way of making the cushion was putting together the pieces and putting it together along with creating a nice trim with the overlocker to make it look presentable once put together , in order to keep the cushion in tact this was necessary but it also helped create that fold in which it can become a a pillow cover to slip the the pillow in and not leave a opening to slip out.

Techniques plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 3 techniques that had caught my eye during this project was these 3 which we have learnt and gained these skills during the geometric project. reasoning behind this is that to give the piece maybe a not so boring background I Would shibori dye with some light n subtle pastels or something light to lead with some embroidery to add that something different about it and make it and individual with a different design. To lastly maybe grab the attention with some foiling of whatever shapes to be decided yet and just be the initial eye grab of the piece.

Final design board
My final design came from the ideas of the geometric theme and the use of crescent moons was something I thought about from the start being a maybe silver looking further into it I foiled those on but my final design was basically what I want except I used shibori also in the end the other design being something I was thinking about but it never really stood out to me as different. I drew on a sketch of a bed to give an idea of whereabouts I think my pillow would fit well or another option maybe even a sofa would go well. We measured out cushion to size to see how we would want it.

Potential places I could see my cushion is most likely going to be in a vintage shop rather than somewhere such as h and m shown above it wouldn’t fit the modern day aesthetic and Would much rather fit in the unpopular and more niche side of things for those shoppers looking for that something a little different. Not only Would it be for niche shoppers maybe shoppers who like eco friendly and like to support small brands.

Final Cushion
On this course I have gained lots of new skills to carry through my fashion journey with me some of them being learning how to mono print which was one of my favourites as I got on really well with and enjoyed the stencil creating to add to my tool kit, another skill Whould be becoming more creative when we did fashion Illustrations it’s broadened my mind set and gave me an opening induction towards how to create or give an idea how fashion designers gather ideas which further on helped me when we explored heat press foiling giving me that more open mind to what I wanted to foil sticking to that geometric theme.within observational drawing it gave me that skill of mindset of a realistic portrayal of for example what’s right in front of me letting me block out the other things and like focus on the zoomed in images of certain things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirsty Whitlock was a huge inspiration to me how she found something unwanted and left aside and created a outstanding piece so different from everything else not only being that she’s recycling used materials she creates something amazing and beautiful whilst being creative about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s had a key influence over me to use more old garments and things within my work to help become eco friendly and change up my ideas. Another artist who had a huge impact and influenced me was Richard sweeney he took something so basic as paper and created something so textured and pretty,he found scraps and stuff from his books taking something maybe so aggressive such as ripping the material to make something so fragile and delicate.
Tumblr media
My last artist of choice who will be Victoria villasana she brings life to every piece she creates, she uses such vibrant and fun colours which allows it to have that effect with nog only that her lives include many known faces such as -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The amount of detail in the pieces are phenomenal , they even stick towards the geometric theme which is something I have needed to do and this artist helped me keep on that reminder of the geometric theme.
The skills I chose for this project were:
Shibori,foiling,embroidery and heat press.
These skills were some of my best skills I gained and favourites upon this project of geometric, the foiling being a personal favourite due to it being so eye catching and pretty with crescent moons imprinted In various/ random order, another reason I chose embroidery was due to it being my top favourite skill I gained it allowed me to express whatever patterns I desired or just allowed me to have free roam kind over my piece lastly the shibori was just a very interesting skill one that I hadn’t quite had time to practice before but winging it, it came out just as wanted and had a almost waved effect a little off geometric theme but within that I gained some circles inwards of the waves which allowed me to embroid and develop a lot further to show I can work around things that maybe didn’t go to plan or was unexpected to show as if I can be creative with the unknown.
Along with my market research places I could see my cushion be sold is maybe a vintage shop to have a very niche market as it may not be a regular item a person whould buy from such as a mainstream brand as h+m, almost making it a different item and for someone to walk into there house and expect something different to the common as I Whould normally. Looking further into the vintage shop idea anything similar to that such as maybe it Would be an item u could thrift from a charity shop from maybe a previous buyer point being made it’s very different item to very unpopular taste.reason being why h+m whouodnt be a bulk buy purchaser of my item I’d it doesn’t fit there style really or any mainstream brand as currently in right now whould be neutral tones
Tumblr media
Some things I would have changed within my work if having more time would be that I would maybe improve upon my embroidery and add a lot more detail with that as I hadn’t done to much and it would have really improved my piece with that little bit more of embroidery , another thing that could potential push my my piece that bit further is a little more attention towards the shaping of the crescents a very small and minor detail but pushed it that little bit further. Challenges I had faced during my cushion making is that when doing my printing colour ended printing on with the foiling and went wrong so to adapt to that mistake I printed more other colour rectangular pieces on to my work to almost look as if it was meant to be there, another challenge not so much as mistake but within my shibori there were circles around where we had placed the marbles so I embroidered into the piece and did something with those circles to look again as if it was meant to be there the slight mishap that I had endured was gone when I did that which was good.
My overall view upon this project and my cushion is that I did enjoy numerous skills learned as said above which specific ones I have Practiced at home giving me that influence to do stuff and practice those skills at home showing growth however the geometric theme of shapes was not to my taste it felt very limiting towards the creative aspect limited to shapes not allowing free flow , another thing I disliked was that the shapes are very limited as in there isn’t much to chose from linking back with my other dislike very small option choice as said above aswell a lot of unknown skills was gained from this project and a discovery of a lot of new things to me such as mono printing and heat transfer overal this project has been a fun one but some dislikes

George Weil
Tumblr media Tumblr media
George Weill colour scheme is very vivid and bold with nervous links towards flowers and shrubbery. His work really constructs the shaping of the flowers with precise shaping and accurate dying.this relates to my work because of the angular leaf like mark prints he creates as I created something similar within my spray paint work.finally last point I will make is that I do like his work however idk how effective it Whould be towards my cushion other than his dying techniques which are really nice and pleasing to look at

Marie Therese
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marie Therese Batik paintings inspired by nature. British wildlife, birds, butterflies, insects and wild flowers. Original batiks, giclee prints, cards, batik workshops. Her colour mainly revolve around the nature and wildlife colour scheme which can be either colourful or quite earthy colours and feel I could gain a lot from this artist as she’s very into her nature as am I and her batik is very inspiring making me want to do something similar. Her work doesnt very well fit the geometric theme but it is a very nice and different type of work piece

Toshihiko mitsuya + Sophie Martin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are foiling artist however they both take on a different aspect to it one creates 2d however the other takes on a 3rd aspect giving it more life and structure but both look and are good ways to style or add to piece , Sophie the 2nd artist her colour scheme was almost a subtle marble look adding to it the foil to almost make the piece just that bit more interesting.I tried this and thought it looked so nice and just added something to something with a lack of interest.however toshihiko makes actual sculptures from it giving it that more shine and an all use of foil.

Foiling/techniques for cushion
I attempted foiling before attempting on my cushion so that I could have a practice run before doing it properly this was a very different and cool type of technique

Needle punch
I really struggled with towards beginning as it’s a hard skill but I got sort of the hang of it bug struggled still and will need to still practice absent upon day of the skill learning but used collectively with my other skills and used upon one of my experimental samples
First if all u need a specific type of fabric which will allow it to create loops underneath
Then needle punching along the area marked or where u wanna need punch allow a lil loop so it doesn’t all come out and then done from there u can decide whichever u wanna do with it next

Hellen bullock
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hellen bullock is is a textile designer whose self titled label uses bold colours and strong silhouettes. The bold colours causes key eye attraction making her work stand out and catch people’s eye first she is a very inspirational artist to me who I can connect with because of her key use of silhouettes which is what caught my eye other than her bold colours because of how different they are I feel as if looking at her work I can gain maybe some quality’s that I can start to use in my own work such as maybe changing up the average silhouettes I would normally use. I do like her work and feel from this I can maybe get inspiration but develop and I depends illustration style. She creates hand printed designs also which is another thing I feel I find similar I much prefer in person drawings skills to be used over for say digital maybe.

Button holes and zips
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Button hole process-
I cut out my fabric to a certain size so that we could get a the correct button hole sizes so once cut out to shape we then ironed down the area we was placing the button holes
Then we sew in the buttons holes on the machine measuring in between each so the buttons are even
The foot we used to add on to the machine is the button foot which we clip in our button size and it changes to size
Them to finish it off we overlooked the edge to make it look pretty
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I lined out where we wanted the zip cutting the fabric in half them sewing it up to a certain point to position the zip
I then folded the fabric in and pinned the zip to keep in place
Following on from that I then sewed in the zip to stay fitted running the stitch back to keep in place

Mark making and fashion illustration
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started of creating patterns by random with different tools and objects such as wrapping a lolly pop stick with tape to create a creased texture and painting a stick to make a veined look along with bubbling up paint in a cup to create a bubble pop ring firework look alike. These tools helped create a very geometric pattern that’s unique and very individual to help make our marks and designs different. from there we created our model sketch’s and made clothing line designs personalised to what I like in clothing trying to make it different tho.

Observational drawing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have done some close up observational draws inspired by the drawings of henry Moore. Close detailed lines and key techniques such as cross hatching to highlight dark areas and shadows. Mark making helped create depth and key marks of scrunched/scratched surfaces. I tried cross hatching it had started off quite rough up I kept developing it and it created a much better shadow and improved my skills in cross hatching. The media we used was fine liners to create precision marks however can cause to be quite time consuming. Another is looking into an interesting shaped area inspired by geometric shape along with A4.we started off with marking out leading on to then painting which sort have caused smudge effect a little to make it look less precise and more filled. Zooming in has given it multiple qualities such as future use of printing and inspiration, zooming in has caused more significance to the shapes and structures .

Summer task project collage creation with geometric inspired pictures taken, i was inspired by geometric shapes in nature.i added drawings to add texture using layers of colour and pen and pencil to create a fade away style.i made a physical collage because I thought it was the best way to present my skills.colour scheme I used was similar colours to the geometric photos I had taken to complement each other and blend well into the collage.with more time I would probably look into making it bigger and adding maybe different things to it such as maybe painting or stitch or draw into or even add more layers.
