Okay everyone, good news!
So recently I’ve been working on a magazine with my sister called, Essence of Color. It’s a magazine that helps uplift and listen to the stories of people of color. We operated at first only out of facebook but I’ve recently made a website. That said, we are almost done with the editing process of the website now comes the process of contributions.
At this moment, we are accepting contributions from people of color. There is no central theme. We are accepting submissions for these following categories:
Features
Essays and Opinion pieces
Critiques / Reviews (Shows, movies, books, etc.)
Personal Stories and Essays
Art – photography, drawings, paintings.
We are extremely lenient on what you submit. Just as long as it revolves around culture, your identity and people of color. We are looking for all voices of color, so please, consider contributing.
All we ask when you contribute is that you send your work to [email protected] . Also if you send us something you must send a photo of yourself.
Deadline is September 1st!
Please consider.
@poc-creators @poc-support-cafe @diversetolkien @nerdsagainstfandomracism @feminismandmedia i hope yall don’t mind me tagging but i think your followers would be interested.

Julia López
Afro-Mexican artist
“When people think of Mexico’s muralism movement they remember Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, among many others, but Julia López was and is also a part of that artistic movement as well. López was born in Ometepec, Costa Chica, Guerrero in 1936. Her parents were humble farmers and she was one of eight children. She taught herself to do math and read, and began her career by working in hotels and modeling bridal dresses. She met Frida Kahlo in 1952 and slowly became a part of Mexico City’s arts community. López’s first art exhibit was in 1958 and has now been displayed in galleries all over the world. She currently lives and works in Mexico City.” (x)
