CHAPTER 14
Bakugou keeps staring at the concrete under his feet, his mother’s words freshly burned into his mind and a heavy feeling on his chest that won’t go away no matter what he does.“Wow, the champion is home. Did you celebrate your victory?“ his mother asked, her voice spilling with sarcasm and if he hadn’t been this worn out he’d have yelled back. He wanted to shout at some, but there was no one to be blamed except him and he’s grown tired of being the cause of everything.
How could he lose to Y/N, even while she was injured, he angers himself for this is the only thing he knows to do. It’s pathetic, he thinks angrily. Losing to an already injured opponent, while thinking he could ever surpass AllMight. He doesn’t want to believe someone is stronger than him, especially Y/N, who he wants to-
“Did you really had to go this far to win? They already dislike you and no one will want you as a pro if you keep doing this.“
He clenches his hands inside his pockets and keeps his eyes low. He knows! He already knows that! Bakugou thinks to himself frustrated. He knows all he can do is hurt others and destroy things. He knows they won’t love him - he truly can’t blame them - but he hoped that people would know that he’s strong enough to fight the villain. He’ll leave the rescuing to the shiny heros with bright smiles and kind words - they can have all of their love - but he’ll fight the villains no one dares to. Not to be famous or successful but to do at least one good thing in this world, to prove to himself that he’s not completely lost. That there is still a spark of goodness in him.
„Bro, where are you going?“
The boy finally raises his eyes as Kirishimas voice appears from behind, to find his friend standing a few feet behind him. The very same spot he waits for Y/N every morning and every time she grins at him, letting him know she doesn’t hate him, the spark of hope turns into a wildfire.
Oh, he thinks and stops walking, he didn’t notice. He probably should pay more attention to his friends. Be nicer, yell less before they’d all turn their back on him - before she’d turn her back on him. But isn’t it already too late for that? By now they all probably hate him anyway, so he’d just make a fool out of himself. He’s not here to find friends but to train to become a hero so that this spark of goodness, which is clinging to his soul, would neve die. Bakugou only puffs and starts walking again.
„Don’t you wanna wait for the others?“ Kirishima asks, catching up to throw his arm around his shoulder - a gesture he doesn’t mind anymore but much rather enjoys.
„No,“ he answers with a deep voice and so they walk alone into the school, but not without glancing back, hoping maybe Y/N would be early today but he can’t see her and so he lowers his eyes to the ground again, listening to Kirishima about his fear none of the pros would want him as an intern. As if anyone could not love Kirishima, Bakugou thinks, every idiot with two brain cells can see that he’ll become a successful hero.
When they finally set into their seats, the boy tries his best not to stare at the door, keeping himself occupied by listening to his friends until he finally hears her voice. He feels silly for how fast his eyes fall on the door as Y/N finally walks in, accompanied by Sero. He allows himself to look at her closer. Her hair might be shiny and a smile adorns her beautiful lips but at the same time her eyes seem so tired and hollow, it tightens his throat. Shouldn‘t she be happy about her victory? Is he the cause for the absence of her joy? Did he hurt her? Bakugou waits for her to look at him and smile, letting him know they’re good yet he drops his eyes back to the table when she finally does look at him.
„You know, for being this smart you are pretty obvious.“
Bakugou can feel his cheeks heating up as he looks at Jirou, cursing her ability to read people this well.“Shut up,“ he murmurs angrily and leans back in his seat, hoping Aizawa would finally come so everyone would just stop talking.
„You could just ask her if she wants to go out for a drink sometime. Although I’m not sure if she likes going on dates with people who act like they’re 80.“
„Would you shut up!“ Bakugou yells but the girl only keeps giggling. He has no interest in such thing, the boy thinks stubbornly.
-
„PI-ZZA DAY! PI-ZZA DAY!“
Bakugou rolls his eyes as Kirishima and Kaminari keep yelling through the halls, pulling him forwards by his jacket so they wouldn’t miss anything. Don’t they have anything better to do, he wonders as they pass a group of students who started whispering as they saw him. Since the festival the whole school looks at him like an exotic animal.
„Bakugou, find us a table! Kirishima, you get us drinks! I’ll look for food!“ the yellow haired boy yells as they finally reach the cafeteria and before he could even say a word, were his friends gone. Great, he puffs annoyed and starts walking towards their usual table.
„King Explosion Murder!“ Bakugou turns his head towards the mocking voice, finding Jirou a couple of feet away waving like a maniac. The rest of the girls sit around, eating and enjoying their break after Aizawa let them work out all morning.
This can’t be good, he thinks at the sight of Jirou‘s wicked smile.“Do you want pizza? Me and Momo bought everything they had,“ she says as he takes a seat next to her, avoiding to look out for Y/N who isn’t sitting in her usual seat. He didn’t talk to her since the festival, even agreed on training with Uraraka just so he could avoid her. It doesn’t quite matter what he does to avoid her for she’s constantly on his mind yet somehow he can’t bring himself from thinking of her. Bakugou feels like a fool as he keeps searching the cafeteria to find the girl, wondering where she could even be.
„You don’t even like Pizza,“ he murmurs and takes a piece from the plate, keeping his eyes on her yet he can’t stop himself from glancing over to the doors as someone enters. This is ridiculous, he angers himself.
„Yeah but Kaminari loves it and he’ll be devastated when he finds out they sold out.“
„You’re evil,“ Momo comments with amusement in her voice, looking over her friend. No wonder Kaminari and Momo have a crush on her, he thinks while waving his friends over to the table. Kaminari does in fact look disappointed as he sits down with empty hands.
„What’s the matter, Kaminari?“ Mina asks him, playing the innocent as if she doesn’t have a whole pizza in front of her. Their friend finally looks up to answers but as his eyes fall on the food he freezes.“Oh, come on! You couldn’t leave me one piece?!“
Bakugou leans back in his seat, letting his friends fight over petty things. Since their internship will start next week, they have some time to relax. A few boring and mundane days seem blissful. No competitions, cameras or games. Only classes in the morning and drinks with friends in the evening.“Bakugou!“
The boy looks up to meet Momo‘s dark eyes.“What?“ he groans, annoyed by his own thoughts. Why do they all want to talk to him?
„It’s your turn to clean the classroom,“ she explains in a calm voice, softly smiling at him. The boy doesn’t say anything and gladly leaves his friends behind.
-
,,Y/N, do you know who your parents are and where you come from?“ asks the woman in a calm tone, yet it makes her body shiver from fear.
The girl clenches her fists and keeps her eyes on the expensive looking tea service one of the assistants brought them. Whenever someone asks about her parents Y/N would answer the same. Her parents died when she was little and since then she lives with her uncle. She doesn’t remember them. She has told this lie so many times, sometimes she’d believe it herself. Trying to tell herself everything before Keigo was just a bad dream but it’s impossible to erase scars.
„Y/N,“ the woman says, still monotone and with her legs crossed. Every time she says her name it feels like she’s mocking her for pretending to be someone she isn’t. She knows if it wasn’t for Keigo she still wouldn’t have a name or anything else. That she would be chained down in a cell and used for experiments.
The girl finally looks up and meets the cold eyes of the commission. She’s still smiling and leaning back on the couch as if they were just chatting about something petty. As if it’s not a matter of her freedom and future. The woman knows she can take away everything Y/N and Keigo have fought for.
“Yes,“ she presses out with her jaw clenched. Y/N wishes she wouldn’t remember. She tries so hard to erase the memories. Ban them from her mind, frame by frame until they’d finally leave. To do something to lighten the agony but they always come back like hungry hyenas, fetching their teeth and growling - waiting for the day she won’t run anymore. Bloodthirsty and ready to rip the flesh of her bones until she’s that creature again they once created.
“And where is this?“ Y/N‘s look is filled with so much hate a person can carry. It’s a dry and calm kind of anger that she can feel in the depth of her veins - deeply anchored in her soul. A kind where she’d calmly watch the woman die under her fingertips with a satisfied smile on her lips. She doesn’t want to hurt her physically but rather mentally with her words as a payback for all the years she had to spend in there.
„Hades,“ she whispers and looks back at the service, trying to hold back everything. Her tears, the insults that lay on her tongue and the urge to take that service and throw it at her - in hope the hot tea would burn her face. Keigo once told her to never show any emotions towards the commission and even though they can probably read her like an open book it’s all she has left of her dignity.
„And I assume, you don’t want to go back there.“
„No,“ she says, her voice so cold it must be something she inherited from her biological father - beside the quirk and his anger issues but who’s father doesn’t have anger issues.
„Good. You can become a great Pro Hero if you behave and focus and I’m sure you don’t want to make Hawks any problems… or your friends,“ she continues and Y/N clenches the hem of her skirt. A spark of bloodthirst ghosts over her veins. They wouldn’t dare to touch them, she’d massacre them all before they could even lay a finger on her family,“ Which is why I’m disappointed that you lost the sports festival. Didn’t you know how important it was?“
I won, she thinks with her teeth gritting and with a trembling breath, I beat them all and have enough offers from agencies. What more does she want? Fighting against the commission is helpless for there is nothing she can do. “I‘m sorry,“ is all Y/N can say.
„Good. We took care of it for you. You’ll intern with Ferrum. He’ll teach you some things.“
Of course. Y/N only nods, too tired to say something. It’s not like she planned on interning under Mirko or had an offer from every top 10 agency in Japan. But if the commission decides to send her to a low ranged Pro who’s known to be corrupt, then so it is. Maybe this is her punishment for losing control, she thinks, staring at the wall behind the woman. Strangely she never learned her name for they told her she’s only allowed to talk if being asked something.
„You may go now.“
Y/N gladly stands up to quickly bow and walk out but as she reaches the door, knowing she can drop everything as soon as she’s out, the woman raises her voice,“And Y/N.“ The girl turns around, her hand already holding the doorknob ready to flee,“You too can become a hero, if you behave.“
Holding back an insult the girl just leaves the room, letting the door shut loudly, and quickly walks through the corridors...If you behave?! If I behave?!?! I’ll rip your fucking head off, you dirty whore! She thinks furiously, not noticing how her steps get bigger and faster, carrying her into her classroom.

CHAPTER 13
Tired out from the day Y/N falls into her bed, not even bothering to take off her clothes. Her whole body aches in pain from fighting, yet her mind is fully awake. Recalling every yet so small memory. The waiting room, their break, the commission. She only moves her head to the side, as someone opens the door and light floods into her room.
„Do you want to order something? Or we could go out to eat.“ Kanai stands under the doorframe, his arms crossed and a smile on his lips. She didn’t tell him what was going on with Bakugou and he didn’t ask but the girl is sure he knows something, otherwise he would be laughing and hugging her.
„No, I ate with my friends,“ she murmurs into her pillow and watches him leave. After the tournament Kaminari wanted to try every kind of food the booths had to offer and Y/N didn’t have the heart to tell them that she wanted to go home and so she spent the afternoon wandering around. At least it was a nice distraction from everything that happened earlier.
Just as Y/N‘s about to fall asleep, her door opens again and Keigo storms in, throwing himself onto her and almost crashing her whole body. “My wingless chicken won! Oh Dove, I’m so proud of you!“ he yells happily and presses her head against his chest. He never fails to make her smile, not even on days like these. Y/N smiles and softly hugs him back.
„I knew you’d kick their asses! Even the angry blond monster! Who even let him into UA, he’s like completely out of control? Dove, say one word and I’ll let them kick him out.“
Her smile crumbles as she listens to Keigo and she slowly lets go of him. She knows that Keigo often says things he doesn’t mean but he’s also overprotective and wouldn’t hesitate to destroy Bakugou‘s future. “Keigo. Don’t call him like that and he’s not out of control,“ her voice is cold, warning almost, something she doesn’t use on him like that and it lets his smile disappear. If anything, is she the monster, Y/N thinks.
„What kind of friend? He almost killed you, just look at your injuries.“ Why would she defend such a person?
The girl clenches her jaw. She’s been listening the whole day to people talking bad about Bakugou. Calling him names, cursing his actions, while he did nothing wrong. How can Keigo call him a monster but praise her, Y/N wonders angrily.“He didn’t and these injuries are not only because of him! Did you even watch the match? I almost stabbed him with my bones! I’m just as out of control as he is! Will you let them expel me too or are you just gonna send me back to the commission?“
Both of them freeze instantly as the words leave her mouth. Keigo in shock and Y/N in fear. The girl takes a few steps back until she hits the desk, holding onto it as if her life depends on it. She knew the day would come where she does or says something that will be unforgivable but she hoped it wouldn’t be this soon. Hoped it wouldn’t be over something so stupid and meaningless. The words slipped out her mouth before she could even think about it and now fear paralyzed her body. Y/N waits for him to say something, trying to hold back her tears, as she notices how hurt he looks. She wants him to yell at her, insult or even hit her, anything to stop him from looking at her like she just stabbed him in the chest.
„Y/N… do you really think we would ever send you away?“ Keigo stands up and steps closer, all the anger they had, flooded away in just seconds but replaced with something worse. For the past five years Keigo tried his best to give Y/N a home where she can feel safe and loved. Doesn’t she still trust him? What did he do for her to be afraid of something like that? He protects them with everything he has and hearing her say this feels like she just ripped his chest open. They’re family after all.
,,No. I-… I’m sorry, I was just angry. I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry“ she whispers and bites the inside of her cheeks because she knows if she’d speak any louder, she’d break down in tears. It’s not Keigo‘s fault that she still has this little voice in her head. There is no logical reason for Y/N to believe he’d ever do something that would hurt her. Gods know he has seen her in her worst moments and spend enough sleepless nights by her side as she cried because of the nightmares. Keigo taught her how to fight and be confident, he helped her get stronger. But what did he get in return? Restless nights, tantrums, distrust and an ungrateful brat that slowly sucks the life and money out of him.
„You are my daughter and I’d never do anything like that. You know that, right Y/N?“ he asks with a calm voice and steps closer to lay a hand on her shoulder. The girl nods, holding back the tears with her whole being but his words just make everything worse. Why is he still like that after she said those things? “I know.“ Y/N leans her head against his chest as he hugs her gently. “I love you, Dove.“ This reaches her limit and the first tears escape her eyes. Love is something she doesn’t deserve and centrally can’t afford, not with a soul like hers. Dragged through the dirt and broken into pieces, just so it can be set back together wrong. She wouldn’t know what to do with herself and so she just nods against his chest. Guilt gripping her throat and slowly strangling her because she can’t give him anything in return for his love.
Y/N sits on her bed, legs pulled to her chest and eyes fixed on the fairy lights on her wall. She hasn’t moved for hours, it’s deep in the night and the two men went to sleep long ago. After leaving her room, Keigo didn’t talk to her and she didn’t leave her room. She doesn’t know if he is trying to give her space or just doesn’t want to see her. Something inside her fears he might have left.
She has to get some rest for the night or she’ll be exhausted in the morning, she thinks as the digital clock turns 2 a.m but instead the girl climbs out of the bed. Her moves are quiet like a spider as she walks into the kitchen, to get something to eat. She takes two of the croissants Kanai bought today and for a second she considers going back into her room but the balcony across the living room looks so…invitingly. On her tiptoes she walks over and takes a seat on one of the sofas. It’s quiet, they’re too high up to hear any traffic, and the cold air feels refreshing. Creeping up in her bones and calming her body down, Y/N always liked the cold. She takes a bite and leans back on the black sofa, looking up into the sky. There are barely any stars visible but the ones there are enough for her. The first time Takami-San showed her the night sky she was giggling and crying at the same time, still trying to process the fact that there is exactly nothing above her for an eternity. The first few days of her freedom she spent her time on a motel rooftop, staring at the sky. Every sunrise and sunset were a godlike spectacle with colors she has never seen. Back then she thought how big this world is but now it reminds her how small she is in such a big world. Yet her fascination for the sky never left her again and even years later she finds herself often sitting on the balcony. Her mind would wander around, trying not to think about anything but sometimes she’d wonder about Takami-San or her mother. Where he is and what he’s doing. Is her mother still in Japan, or even alive? Does she has a new family? Y/N tries to lock these kinds of thoughts somewhere deep - do deep she could never hurt herself with them yet they sometimes escape. Why should she care about people who never cared about her either. Maybe they once did, but it’s easier to hate them, if she tells herself they didn’t.
She should go back to sleep, Y/N thinks after eating both of the croissants but she knows that sleep isn’t an option tonight and so she just keeps staring at the buildings afar. Later on she’ll regret not getting some rest. “You’ll catch a cold,“ Kanai says quietly and places a blanket over her. The girl looks up and smiles at him. Y/N heard some noises but she had hoped no one would notice her. „Thank you,“ she murmurs and pulls it closer, even though she liked the cold better.
The tall man with the brown hair sits down on one of the chairs and Y/N clenches her jaw, hoping he wouldn’t talk about anything that’s related to today. Yet she can’t help but wonder why Keigo didn’t talk to her anymore. Kanai wouldn’t say anything if she didn't ask. He’d stay seated for a couple of minutes, keeping her company, smoking, and letting her know that everything‘s alright, before going back inside. But instead Y/N opens her mouth,“Is Keigo still angry?“ Her voice is barely noticeable yet filled with so much fear.
„He was never angry, just hurt,“ he answers calmly and keeps his eyes on the buildings, while inhaling the cigarette.“He was worried that this boy would hurt you seriously.“ In the many years Tōru has known him, he’s never seen him this devastated. The blond man looked like a ghost just appeared in front of his eyes to tell him his date of death. Keigo held onto him with arms and wings as he tried to comfort him, too deep in his thoughts to say a word.
„Bakugou didn’t hurt me,“ she says, ignoring his first answer because otherwise she’d start crying again and her body has stopped producing tears a while ago. Hurting any of them was never her intention, yet she somehow always does. After all she was made to destroy, she thinks ironically.
„He’s the one I found on the balcony back at the hospital with you, right?“ Tōru turns his head and watches her nod. “Tell me about him. I saw him at the festival with you and some other classmates.“ He tries his best to sound calm and interested, even though he can’t stand that blonde brat. He’s loud, impolite and doesn’t have any respect for his elders.
„He’s not that bad. He can be funny and he doesn’t yell all the time. He’s responsible and caring, even though he doesn’t want to admit it.“ Y/N doesn’t mention how he’s the one who kept her from drowning in memories and that she’s slowly getting attached to the boy, something she’s terrified of yet he makes her feel like it was always meant to be. The way he looks at her, as if he’s been searching for her in every lifetime but something always got in the way. Bakugou is smart, he knows something - that’s for sure - but he doesn’t ask for her past yet Y/N is sure she would tell him everything if he ever asked. As she keeps talking about that brat her smile grows into something familiar, Tōru has to admit he knows. The same one he probably has whenever he’s talking to Keigo. Bewitched, in love and cursed. “We are doomed, boy,“ Tōru thinks with a sad smile, hoping somehow Bakugou would hear his warning. It’s not to late to leave for him, without destroying everything that’s left of them. Tōru on the other hand has accepted his fate. “Loving them is like trying to love a star. They can shine only so bright if darkness surrounds them. If you stay too long you might disappear in it too.“
Tōru listens to her stories until his phone starts ringing and he has to get ready for work, leaving her on the balcony. The girl stays seated, going to sleep now wouldn’t bring much anyway and she finally calmed down - mind fogged from sleep deprivation. The sun is rising on her left, painting the sky in beautiful colors and taking her back to the hospital balcony. Her eyes fall onto the sofa, she’s sitting, imagining how Bakugou would sit next to her. Their shoulders touching and a blanket over their laps. Would they talk again about their favorite movies, which one makes them cry and which one laugh, or tell each other childhood stories. Seeing Bakugou calm is still weird but she started to like it too.
The fantasies stop as her phone rings too, telling her to get up for school. Y/N has a little smile on her face as she gets ready and drives to school. Although she would disagree because otherwise she would have to admit it’s because of daydreams of Bakugou. “Taka-chan, you are early,“ Sero says as he finds her at the train station this morning, a smile still on her lips. It’s an ordinary morning, which takes some pressure off her chest. Sero and Y/N talk about petty stuff, while getting some coffee - he likes his sweet with vanilla - she learned some time ago. The boy talks most of the time, telling her how his relatives overseas watched the matches and called him afterward. How his father cooked his favorite food and even agreed on watching his favorite superhero movie, even though he never liked those.“You left early yesterday, did you and your uncles celebrate your victory?“ he asks as they reach U.A and the first thing Y/N notices is Bakugou‘s absence. He’s not leaning against the gaits and talking with Kirishima like every other morning and then the voice appears again.
Foolish girl, you should have known better.
Her smile crumbles for a second before she turns back to Sero, ignoring the voice. Maybe he’s just late, she hopes. “Yeah, same like you. We ordered food and I went to bed early,“ she shrugs with a smile.
They meet the rest of their friends inside and for a moment Y/N falls back. Bakugou sits in his seat, talking to Kirishima and he doesn’t even bother to look at her. Not now nor the rest of the day.
Pathetic little idiot, laughs the voice in her head mocking Y/N, in a sing-sang tone. Did you think he feels the same? You should know better. Pathetic. Don’t you feel embarrassed?

CHAPTER 12
„We can’t let them continue, they’ll kill each other. U.A has enough bad publicity.“…Nezu
„He’s right. Have you seen these needles, she could have hurt him seriously?! And this boy has anger issues!“ …Zementoss?
„And how should we decide who wins? They’ll act like this in every competition and I don’t wanna repeat what happened with the hardening boys.“…Midnight.
Y/N clenches her jaw and straightens up. Maybe listening to their conversation was a bad idea. What did she expect?
The girl quickly walks back to the waiting room, finding Bakugou in one of the chairs. His expression softens as he looks at her, relieved not to be alone in this terribly empty room with his thoughts.
Y/N takes a seat next to him, reaching out for a bottle of water but as she tries to unscrew the lid the heavy bottle starts slipping from her hands. The overused muscles in her fingers and forearms are still burning and shaking, the wounds reopened as they fought and her fingers would probably break by the slightest touch. Frustrated and tired she puts the bottle back on the table, trying to ignore the boy next to her.
„Anything new about our match?“ Bakugou asks quietly and sits up to grab the same bottle, opening it with a frown. Why didn’t she just ask him to open it for her, if her arms are still hurting. Does she think he would do it or laugh at her?
„They don’t know what to do with us,“ she murmurs with burning cheeks and slowly brings the water to her lips, not noticing his gaze and how he licks his lips.
„They should just let us fight.“ The boy stands up and limps to the sink, grabbing some tissues, disinfectants and bandages. He can’t just sit there and do nothing, he’ll lose his mind. Why does nobody come to check on them? Y/N‘s arms are still injured, his foot is pulsating and they can barely stay awake! They could at least bring them some food!
„Give me your arms, we should bandage them before you get an infection,“ he says with his usual grumpy voice as he sits down and opens his hand. Y/N hesitates, afraid that if his fingers touch her skin he’d somehow feel the dirt in the cracks of her twisted soul she tried so hard to clean off. She raises her eyes, his look grumpy yet patient and so she lays her arm in his hand, waiting for him to flinch or pull back but instead he brushes his thumb softly over her wrist. Bakugou takes a deep breath before staring. Gentle. He has to be gentle, he keeps reminding himself and keeps his eyes on her hot skin. Todoroki should be grateful that he wasn’t going to fight him, Bakugou thinks to himself and stares at the cuts and burns that came from the ice. He knows this is proof that Todoroki takes her seriously but he doesn’t have to like it. Now he has at least a reason to hate him.
„They thought we wanted to kill each other,“ Y/N whispers, her eyes on the boy who’s so close that she can see his jaw clench. Since when is he so…quiet? What is he thinking? Is he just annoyed by the teachers? Does he actually believe he could have killed her? Does she seem so weak? Y/N freezes. What if he believes she would have done it? Did she reach the limit she always knew would come? She was going to shoot spears at him and he saw what happened with Todoroki. Y/N doesn’t want him to leave. Not now, where she… started to become comfortable around all of them.
„Stop talking about this stupid match,“ he growls. He doesn’t want to think about this anymore. Why does everyone think he would have hurt her? Why does Y/N have to believe it?
„I’m sorry,“
Bakugou looks up for a moment and their eyes lock. They know something is different. Maybe since the night they sat at the balcony, injured and sad but less lonely than ever because they had each other. Or since the first round or their break. Maybe it started weeks ago, when they kept each other from falling into the same dark hole they once crawled out, but they were just too afraid to see it. See that it doesn’t feel the same with Sero or Momo - or any of their friends - for they know each other in a different way. Knowing the look on one's face when the nightmares once again took over the night. Knowing that when the other just wants to take out frustration, they’d be there - either as a punching bag or a gentle squeeze of their hand and ensuring words.
„Don’t be. So uhm-“ Bakugou clears his throat and looks back at her arms to hide his rosy cheeks. He has to change the subject before he’d say something stupid.“The doc. Is he your dad or something?“
„My uncle,“ she smiles weakly and pulls her arms back, as he finally finishes his work but instead of leaning back they stay close. Their legs intertwined and faces only a few inches away from each other. He’d just have to lean a bit closer to do something he never dreamed of but something tells him the time hasn’t come yet.“The one, who taught you how to make pancakes?“
„No, that was Keigo. That’s pretty much the only thing he can cook,“ Y/N can feel the heat in her cheeks as she realizes that he remembers their conversations. She nervously adjusts in her seat, not knowing what to do with her body until her eyes fall on his leg. He has cuffed his pants but now his swollen ankle is visible.
„Put your foot in my lap,“ she says and sits back. To her surprise, he actually listens and slowly puts his foot up. Y/N lets her fingers brush over his skin, trying her best not to shake before bending three of them.
„Do you live with both of them?“ Bakugou stares at his foot, feeling a sharp sting before the pain starts fading again. Did she do the same with Aizawa? His curiosity is killing him but he strangles it, knowing that she doesn’t like this part of her quirk. He’d rather see her smile like earlier.
„Yeah. Keigo took me in when I was 10 and Kanai-san moved in last year because he was spending most of his time anyway at ours,“ she giggles, remembering how Kanai and Keigo acted so awkwardly polite during the first couple of days. The actual story is longer and messier but Y/N decides to ignore it, just like the fact that she’s telling him more about herself than she planned to. They might seem crumbs to him but they’re all she can offer.
„And your parents?“ Bakugou asks and watches her smile crumble and shift into something different. It has to take a lot of practice to make something so sad like this smile, so pretty, he thinks and almost reaches out with his hand to smoothen the wrinkle between her eyebrows. Don’t talk about parents, he notes for the future instead.
„They died when I was little and I don’t have any other family so I stayed with Keigo.“ A very simple way to explain a rather tragic story, some might say. She doesn’t mention the countless nights Keigo had to stay awake or sleep in a chair in her room for she cried every night and was afraid the men could manifest out of thin air. How she threw things at him, mostly dull bones, whenever he tried to convince her to go see Kanai for she never paid attention to her health. She doesn’t mention the ,,hospital“ and their experiments with her bone marrow, when she was barely old enough to even understand what that is. The prison and how they made her pay every meal with a fight or her body. Takami, who promised her freedom and safety but left her in some old motel all by herself. She doesn’t mention the scars they all left on her body and soul. She’s certain he wouldn’t look at her the way he does now if he knew.
„Well your uncles sound cool,“ comforting people isn’t Bakugou‘s strength but at least his poor attempt makes her crack a smile and he realizes once again that making a fool out of himself isn’t as bad as he always thought.
„Yeah, they might seem like that but Keigo whistles Britney Spears and Kanai-San makes doctors jokes no one understands.“ Bakugou sits there, a flew inches away, his eyes swallowing her whole being and actively remembering her appearance so that he wouldn’t forget it, not even in his parents‘ house. Her voice so light and calm, he wishes they could stay forever like this but way too soon someone opens the door and for a second he’s ready to fight whoever dares to interrupt them.
But as Midnight and Zementoss enter the room, reality floods in with them, drowning them in memories and unpleasing feelings. Bakugou‘s face grows cold as their looks remind him of what he almost did. What they think he wanted to do.“We have discussed the situation. You can go back inside.“ and then they walk out, leaving them confused and nervous.
Bakugou and Y/N stay still for a moment, looking at each other. They don’t want to go back inside but rather stay here and let the world argue about whatever they want. Bakugou is the first one to get up, waiting for Y/N to follow and so together they walk in again.
Standing on the podium and being elected as the winner of the annual sports festival, feels less victorious than Y/N thought. Not only because she and Bakugou have to share the first place in order to avoid more complications but also because of the forced smiles some of the teachers have. By now the whole school has heard about „the first graders that almost killed each other“ and all of them are eyeing them like some exotic animals. They don’t say a word while Midnight talks and as soon as it all starts it’s already over.
Y/N keeps a bright smile on her face, while her friends and teachers praise her but every once in a while her eyes fall on Bakugou and she wishes she could go back a few minutes. Back into the waiting room to hide again.

CHAPTER 11
„Brat, you okay?“ It was his voice that brought her back to reality. Far away from fireworks and skylines, into a cold and dark cell, where a guard just left her laying on the floor next to an old piece of bread and water. They’d take off her bandages, whenever they visited her in the night, knowing she couldn’t move much anyway. This time though, she didn’t fight back, trying to save as much energy as possible.
„Yes,” she answered with a quiet whisper and pulled herself towards the door with the bones in her hand. One for the doors, another for his chains. Her heart was pounding as she carefully picked the lock, trying to remember what the man has told her. Once out of the cell, she looked up with a small but proud smile. Takami was standing only a few feet away, still behind the bars and in chains. A few more minutes later she has picked his door, with a smile on her face. It wouldn’t take them long to leave and Y/N couldn’t wait to see the world. The sakura blossoms and fireworks he has told her about.
„Good job,“ said the dark haired man and stretched his wings after she took off his chains. He smiled down at her, placing his hand on her head, as they started walking.
„Eraser, your students really go plus ultra!“
Y/N gasps for air, opening her eyes painfully quick, as she hears PresentMic‘s voice. Confused and in panic she gets on her feet, her head still spinning and giving her nausea. It takes her a few seconds to recall where she is and what’s happening, while trying to ignore the feeling on her back.
The girl looks around and finds Bakugou on the floor, surrounded by all the needles she wanted to shoot at him and for a moment the whole world fades into the background, her body drowning in fear that she might have killed him. Still weak on her feet she stumbles closer to him and notices how his chest is rising in a steady rhythm.
She only looks up from him as Midnight starts talking.“The teachers will have to consult about the following events and the outcome of this match.“
Y/N frowns in confusion and looks around the arena, noticing how all of the teachers and some viewers leave. What’s going on? What happened? „Y/N, please wait with Bakugou in the waiting room. We’ll inform you as soon as possible.“ The girl turns around to find Zementoss pointing to the exit. She doesn’t say anything, just walks back to the boy who’s still unconscious.
„Bakugou.“ She kneels down next to him and gently shakes his shoulder. The boy only reacts as she shakes him harder, opening his red eyes confused just like her. He blinks a few times, his gaze not leaving her face before he sits up, still holding onto her.
„What happened?“ he asks and looks at Zementoss and Midnight who are eying him with cold looks. The same cold looks Midoriya-San has whenever she sees him and only then a shiver runs down his spine, his eyes quickly looking back to Y/N but the girl seems fine. Or at least she’s not hurt. Her skin is pale, she looks tired and out of breath but she’s alive.
„They stopped the match but I don’t know why. We have to go,“ the girl answers with a calm voice and stands up again, pulling him onto his feet. Bakugou wants to protest or at least ask more questions but his body feels so heavy, he just wants to lay down and sleep for a bit. The two of them slowly walk into the waiting room, trying to ignore the hundreds of eyes on them and their burning muscles.
„What‘s going on?“ he asks again as they collapse next to each other into the chair in the empty room. Their limbs spread out, fingers still tangled from when they carried each other out of the arena. Headaches, burning muscles and dried blood.
„The teachers have to consult about the match. They probably thought it was escalating.“ Bakugou straightens up, his expression growing cold. They think he lost control. They think he would have hurt Y/N or worse, killed her just to win a stupid competition. Just to prove himself that he doesn’t care! What is wrong with him? He wonders, shocked by his own actions. Anger floods his body, by the realization they think he would want to hurt her. How could they!? He didn’t hurt her. He would never harm Y/N in any way! He-
„How could you do this to my baby!? Don’t you have a heart?!“
Bakugou‘s body stiffness, his hands shaking as Midoriya‘s voice appears in his head. It haunts him since that day. The teachers are right, he thinks. He might not hurt her intentionally but he’s still Bakugou Katsuki. He’ll hurt her sooner or later, it’s in his being, and denying this would only put her in danger. One day he’ll lose control or say something that won’t be fixable.
„Bakugou?“ The boy looks up from the ground. Y/N has put her hand gently on his again, her voice so soft and lovely, that his name sounds like a foreign word to him. His eyes linger at their hands for a moment before he looks at her. The expression on her face is just as unfamiliar as her voice and he has to wonder how scared he must seem, for her to be this worried. For her to try to comfort him. As if he isn’t the one hurting them all.
The boy quickly pulls his hand back, jumping onto his feet, and storms out the waiting room, before she could say another word, ignoring the burning pain in his ankle. He must have landed wrong, he thinks annoyed. His mind runs laps while he limps through the corridors with no destination. He just needs a moment to get his thoughts under control. A quiet place just for him. Where he couldn’t hurt anyone.
When did this all happen? When did he become so weak and lost control over his emotions?! This isn’t supposed to happen! He’s Bakugou Katsuki! He’s the best and he doesn’t let anyone manipulate his mind!
Out of breath, he sits down at the floor. He’s Bakugou Katsuki and he’s going to be the number one hero. The boy keeps repeating this sentence, in hope it would clear his head.
I’m Bakugou Katsuki and I’ll be the number one hero! “Stop talking about that! The only thing you can do is destroy things!“ says his mother’s voice.
I’m Bakugou Katsuki and I’ll be the number one hero! “You’re even too weak to win against a slime monster! How do you wanna surpass AllMight?“
I’m Bakugou Katsuki and I- „Kacchan?“ …I’m a monster.
The boy holds his breath, too afraid to move as he hears his voice. Why does he still call him like that? Why is he here? Why is this happening right now?
„Kacchan, are you okay?“ He steps closer. Of course he’s okay, he wants to yell but fear has paralyzed his body. Bakugou finally opens his mouth, still staring at the wall in front of him. He doesn’t want to do this anymore. He’s so tired of being afraid and angry and confused. Why can’t they all just leave him alone?
„What are you doing here?“ he asks with a cold voice and tries to strangle all his emotions to death. He doesn’t need or want them. He just has to concentrate on his future. Train harder and become strong enough to fight everyone.
„I thought I might check on you,“ he chuckles awkwardly and scratches the back of his head. He hasn’t changed, not even after what happened and maybe that’s a good thing but the blond can’t stop himself from wondering if he’s only pretending. Bakugou turns his head to him, trying to see if he’s making fun of him. School started a few months ago but they didn’t talk, in fact he was avoiding the other boy. The last time the two of them actually talked, was before the incident. He was too much of a coward to find him afterwards. He was afraid of the looks and words, he still is.
He wanted to check on him? He bites his tongue, swallowing all the things he wants to say, and stands up again. Does everyone think he’s that weak? He just has to get out of there.“I’m fine,“ he murmurs and walks as fast as he can towards the door but as he gets closer, more people appear at the gates. Bakugou hesitates, before turning around and rushing back to Y/N.

Chapter 10
„That means our final fight will be between Takami and Bakugou!“ Present Mic‘s voice echoes through the stadium as Midnight announces the winner and Y/N can feel how Momo‘s body stiffens. The girl hasn’t left her side since they dismissed Y/N from the ward and she can’t say she isn’t grateful for Momo. She didn’t ask any questions or looked at her wrong.
„Urgh, I don’t like the idea of you fighting Bakugou. He’s like a dog with rabies,“ she sighs as they watch the blond boy leave the arena. Unlike the other times he doesn’t look happy about his victory.
„He’s not that bad,“ she murmurs with a forced smile, trying to ignore the excitement in her voice. She loves Momo and the others but they haven’t stopped worrying about her since the match against Todoroki. Bakugou on the other hand won’t hold back and that’s what she wants. Someone to let out all her frustration and anger. Bakugou might be bloodthirsty but she has been waiting for him the whole day and in the end all of them are bloodthirsty, the only difference is that they hide it.
„I’m gonna go now,“ she says to her friends and starts walking towards the waiting room, to get a last snack before the match starts. She hasn’t talked to Hawks or Kanai since the break and commission also disappeared but the girl is sure they’re still watching. Her heart still races and her chest feels heavy when she remembers Todoroki and the things she said to him.
„Skeleton!“
Y/N turns around with a smile on her lips as she recognizes the voice. Bakugou looks even grumpier than usual and she can imagine why. He hasn’t beaten her very often and even though her arms are still aching from Todoroki‘s ice are his chances are low, which means he’ll give everything he has.
Bakugou clenches his fist as she turns around. He hates the fact that he couldn’t fight her without assuring himself, that she won’t hate him and that she’s alright. Why does he care so much about her opinion?! He didn’t care if Roundface would hate him or any other of his classmates but Bakugou would even consider losing on porpoise, just so Y/N wouldn’t think of him as a monster that lost control. He would rather step back than risk the chances of hurting her.
Monster. That’s what Present Mic called him earlier.
Demonic son of a bitch, used his father to call him, before they sent him to the rehab clinic.
The silent judgment and hatred looks of Inko Midoriya still give him nightmares.
Useless piece of shit was burned into his mind since his childhood by his mother, so why does he even care about Y/N and if she hates him or not. Sooner or later he’ll do something that will make her hate him, so why even bother. If she starts hating him now, it will hurt less later on, right?
„Don’t think I’ll go easy on you,“ he murmurs angrily and watches her smile crumble. Maybe coming here was a mistake. How stupid of him to think he was granted something like this with someone like Y/N.
„Don’t worry, I have something up my sleeve just for you,“ she replies with a bloodthirsty smile, one he doesn’t want to see because it makes him feel the things he knows he shouldn’t feel. Bakugou puffs and walks off, leaving Y/N with a tired smile.
The girl takes a seat at the table, trying to stay calm and rational. She only has to fight Bakugou and after that this stupid festival would end for her. She would eat some sweets with her friends, play more of the games and watch the older students compete. Only one last match and then she could go home, take a bath and disappear in her bed. Y/N leans back, to take a deep breath and look down at her wrapped arms. She got some cuts from crushing the ice and even though it’s not the best idea she starts taking the bandages off so she could fight properly. Her skin is still hot and raw but the bleeding stopped and it’s nothing Y/N couldn’t suppress. Right now she doesn’t care if her arms would fall off, she just wants to use her new moves on Bakugou. By the time the bell rings, Y/N is already in front of the door.
Her nervousness makes the stadium appear bigger and more crowded than before but as soon as her eyes fall on Bakugou everything seems to disappear into the background. It’s only them, just like all the other times before. She knows his moves blind and trusts him. For once she doesn’t have to fear anything. It’s Bakugou.
Close combat. That’s what the two of them are good at, especially when they fight each other. Y/N shakes her arms before swinging each one clockwise, to pull out every last bone buried. She smiles at Bakugou and jumps in for an attack.
„I’m gonna beat you, you damn extra!“ The boy dodges her fists, rolling back and landing a punch at her abdomen. Y/N gasps for air as she lands a few feet away, watching him run towards her. She quickly gets back on her feet and swipes her foot over the ground, to call some bones that would keep him back but Bakugou noticed her look and jumps over them, shattering them with one quick explosion. Before she could even react properly, has he grabbed her underarm, throwing her over his head to the ground but she can quickly summon the remains to catch her. Every time he punches or attacks Y/N, bones fall off her body like coins until they’re all buried round him. Just as Bakugou is about to let go of her she pulls him towards her feet and pins him down with two hands. Heavily breathing she gets on her feet.
„You didn’t lie about going easy,“ she laughs with a raspy voice and holds her side, where he landed his first punch. Y/N raises two of her fingers and the bones shoot into the air, pulling him on his feet. The explosions on his hands get bigger as he comes closer but just when he’s only a couple of feet away, the girl twists her fingers. All the bones around them, she lost earlier, get pulled to Bakugou, cowering his whole body and dragging him towards the lines. His hands are being held behind his back, a choice Y/N would regret in a flew second. Just when he’s one step away from the white line, an explosion appears behind his back, pushing him back into the field.
„You stupid, Extra!“ he yells, grinning as he keeps coming closer.
,,Oi, shut up!“ Y/N rolls her eyes and raises her hands in the air, letting the boy fly past her body into the other direction. She uses his blasts as an acceleration and a small grin appears when she notices how confused he is. Did he believe that he knows all of her tricks?
Bakugou knows how risky his move actually is but he doesn’t care. He could hurt Y/N, himself and maybe even other people around. The bones around his body are fragile because she has made too many today and when they break, they break into sharp fragments that could cut or stab someone easily. Yet the only thing on his mind is his victory. He has to give everything, not to win big to convince himself that he doesn’t care about Y/N.
The explosion that follows is so big the smoke veils the whole stadium. Bakugou lands on his feet, his ears ringing but as he spots Y/N a couple of feet away he allows himself a quick look. Her hair is a mess, the uniform perforated and she seems disoriented by the explosion but she’s not hurt and after realizing that he starts running. As if she could feel him, she turns around looking directly into his eyes.
Out of reflex she steps back and raises her hands to push him away, until some pipsy voice in her head reminds her that this is Bakugou.
Bakugou! Bakugou whom she can’t hurt.
Y/N lowers her hands and looks around the arena. There are no more remains buried in the ground and the ones laying around them are small splinters. Could she use them like Hawk does with his feathers? She can’t make more of herself, they’re already crumbling and she won’t touch Bakugou. The girl raises her hands again, pulling as many splinters towards them as possible and hoping it would work.
„I’m gonna win, skeleton!“ he yells with his hands in the air and jumps at her. Once again the girl raises her hands again, pulling as many splinters towards them as possible. It’s a question of time. Who’s faster? Bakugou or the bones?
Bakugou, blind of his own anger, aims for her face and Y/N won’t hesitate to cut him with the sharp splinters but none of this happens. Just when he’s so close that she can see his glowing red eyes and feel the warmth of the explosion, everything becomes numb and dark.

I’m sorry, I still have no idea how to write fighting scenes. Would you like to read a chapter about the 1. movie? It’s basically just fluff and has some background informations about Kanai and Hawks :)

CHAPTER 09
The first round ends quickly with some outcomes none of them has expected. Y/N has left the grandstand to look after Sero, who’s been beaten by Todoroki. Their match barely lasted a few minutes and had the whole stadium frozen.
The boy barely had a chance and knowing she’ll have to fight against him next makes her smile. Winning against a Todoroki will leave a good impression, after all it is said that he’s supposed to do what his father can’t.
As Y/N walks into the lounge she finds Bakugou stretching for his match against Ochako. The boy straightens up as he notices her and has his gaze glued to her. They still haven’t talked to each other. They don’t know what to say without exposing the thoughts they had and so they just stand there for a moment before she walks out to find Sero.
„Taka-Chan, quick! The match is about to start!“ Sero doesn’t seem very hurt or sad about his match with Todoroki, or at least he pretends so. He pulls Y/N next to him with an existing smile and points at the display.
Bakugou and Ochako just started their fight. The girl with the brown hair tries to find something else to concentrate on. She came to find Sero, so she wouldn’t have to watch them fight, knowing Bakugou wouldn’t hold back and get criticized for it. They talk about equal chances yet get upset if men don’t hold back. They still think women are weak, Y/N angers. Her eyes fall back on the screen as the ground beneath her feet quakes.“Poor Ochako,“ Sero mumbles and keeps staring at the screen.
„How are you feeling?“ Y/N asks, trying to change the subject as she hears people around them booing at Bakugou. She only exhales as Aizawa‘s voice appears to defend him.
„Fine. I don’t think I ever had a chance against Todoroki,“ he admits with a sad smile and shrugs. “What about you? Nervous?“
Y/N keeps playing with her fingers, unsure what to say. She has a plan to fight and win against Todoroki and she doesn’t have any other option yet the idea makes her feel uncomfortable in her own skin. It wouldn’t be very hero-like, in fact she’s ashamed to have this plan but with the commission watching she has no other option - at least that’s what she keeps telling herself. Fighting Todoroki isn’t the same as Bakugou or Mina. He can use his quirk on a bigger ratio and it’s not much of a combat fight. There is not much she can do and to win she has to play dirty. Mess with his mind to find a weak spot and make him lose control.
„Kinda. It’s Todoroki,“ she answers and allows herself a quick look at the display. Ochako is on the ground and Bakugou is about to attack again. Y/N quickly lowers her eyes.
Y/N stands up as the bell rings and together they walk back to the lounge. Bakugou ignores them, walking straight to the stairs and leaving them alone. “Good luck and beat him for me!“ Sero quickly hugs her goodbye before he runs after their blond friend.
„And next, we have Takami Y/N against Todoroki Shoto!“
Y/N‘s face is stern and concentrated, trying to ignore the looks of the commission burning holes into her back. They could easily watch the match on TV if they wanted to know how strong she got but instead they came here, where she could see them. They want her to know that they can easily send her back if they think she’s useless. That she’s only allowed to stay if she proves to be strong. Keigo taught her early that she’s not allowed to show them any emotions and she’s ambitious not to.
She can feel the black liquid wrapping around her limps again but this time she doesn’t fight back. Now she knows how to keep it under control. This time she just smiles as the monster whispers into her ear. “If you lose, he’ll come to your cell tonight.“ She’s not the helpless little girl anyone could manipulate. She’s Takami Y/N, a hero in training that can beat Endeavor‘s son.“At what cost?“ The girl tries to swallow the disgusting feeling in her chest and gets ready. She’ll have to do things that will make her hate herself but this is a price she has paid many times.
Todoroki starts his attack as usual and Y/N quickly dodges it, running around the ice to get closer to him and drop some bones.“Forgive me,“ she whispers, hoping he could hear her before she lets him stumble on the ice and kicks him down. Her first fight was successful but not entertaining for the commission. They want to see what she’s capable of and how far she’s willing to go, without looking like a villain.
„Stop playing with me!“ he yells as he tries to get up again but only falls back, causing the people around them to laugh. Y/N finally lets him get up, sneaking up from behind and landing another hit with her bō. Her moves quiet and fast, almost unnatural.
„ Or what?“ she asks provocatively and lets his feet move to the side, causing him to fall,“Will you hit me? I’m sure your father will be proud then and after all that’s what you really want, no? Being loved by your Daddy,“ she asks with a devilish smile on her face and tries to attack again but this time he moves to the side, shooting an enormous amount of ice at her that throws her a few feet away. She quickly gets up again, spitting out the dirt on her mouth and taking position.“I’m sure your father will be proud too. Keigo on the other hand…“ Y/N holds back a scream and bans this though from her mind. Now is not the time.
„He’ll be so proud of you, if you beat up a girl.“ Y/N disturbs his attack with the two dogs rising from the ground and attacking his legs but he quickly kicks them away, causing them to disappear back into the ground. She tries to ignore the need to throw up and keeps telling herself she has no other choice. Todoroki has to get angry and cause a scene.
„Don’t make me mad.“ he growls dangerously quiet and lets another mass of ice appear.“You know your quirk isn’t comparable to mine. I’m stronger than you could ever be.“
You’re just an arrogant boy. You don’t know what I have done, she thinks.“What exactly have you done? Maybe you should tell him, he surely would show some respect then.“
Y/N jumps to the side and takes the opportunity to let more of the bones fall behind the ice block where he can’t see them. Storing them until the time comes. “Of course. Otherwise he would have gotten rid of you!“ The girl can get close enough and holds his feet to the ground, keeping him in place.
„Shut up! Shut up! I’m not like him!“ Y/N hesitates for a second as his voice starts shaking but isn’t this what she wanted? She wanted to bring him on his knees and show them that even Endeavor‘s son couldn’t beat her.
„We are just like our parents and there is nothing we could do,“ she whispers to him after climbing up the ice to him. Y/N looks down at the boy, who’s still hold down by the bones. “This is what you have to do, to become a hero? Tear an innocent boy apart, just like they did to us?“ asks the voice, calm and almost hurt, and this time Y/N holds her breath. How could she ever call herself a hero again if she isn’t better than the men back then? On the other hand is this her way of surviving, she reminds herself. The people around them can’t hear their conversation but even if they could, no one would care. For them pain only exists as the blood coming from a physical wound.
Y/N raises her hand and the iceberg behind them starts crumbling from the inside. All the bones he froze without noticing, are gathering together in front of her and forming into three of her skeletons. The ice is breaking apart and Y/N takes her position between the skeletons to raise her hands and send them toward Todoroki who's still kneeling on the ground. Y/N could swear she saw a tear running down his cheeks, as he let the skeletons carry him away, but maybe it’s just the ice.
The girl starts climbing down the last remains of the iceberg as something hits her in the back, pressing all the air in her lungs out and bringing her on her knees. Her hands clench around the bō, keeping her from falling, and as she turns around she sees Todoroki standing. The block of ice tracing back to him and the skeletons she sent standing beside him, burning like candles.
„I’m not like my parents! I use my power to help others!“
Y/N gets up on her feet again and starts running towards him, all the bones she has left following her and trying to block his attacks. The closer she gets, the more hurts her body but the burning looks of the commission are worse and so she keeps running towards him, swinging her bō low to the ground. The boy can predict her move and freezes the weapon to the ground with Y/N‘s hand on it. She tries to shield his next attack with her hand but Todoroki just kicks her to the side and freezes her hands to the ground to stop her from using her quirk.
„Stay down, Y/N,“ he says with a tired voice and stands up again, leaving her breathless and in pain.“You’ve gotten weak. They’ll feast upon you as soon as you get back,“ laughs the voice again and a quiet whimper escapes her lips.
„Stay still, whore.“
„We can always send you back, Y/N.“
„Stay down or I’ll leave you here! No one’s gonna look for you anyway.“
A shiver runs down Y/N‘s back, making her whole body itch. She doesn’t want to go back. She can’t. She has always done what was asked of her, no matter how terrible it seemed. She did it because she had a chance of earning peace and she’d rather die than lose this again. She’s not a puppet anymore! The world has played with her long enough and she won’t let them take her life away.
The girl clenches her hands, pushing the last thin bones out of her arms and crushing the ice. Y/N holds her breath, afraid he might hear her, as she gets on her feet. Her fingers wander once over her torso and then into the air, pulling out the rips to capture Todoroki. Y/N starts running closer as fast as her beaten legs can carry her and finally shoots the rips at the boy, who didn’t notice how she got up. She keeps her bloody arms stretched out, pushing Todoroki further away until she finally hears the bell ring.
„Takami Y/N won this match!“
Y/N‘s face is stern and cold as she scans the stadium for the commission but when she finally remembers their place, are they already gone. All the noises turn into background noise until the only thing she can hear is the blood dripping from her fingertips.“It was all for nothing,“ laughs the voice before completely disappearing into the dark. She put this show on only for them, to show them she’s strong and powerful, but they didn’t even bother to watch?
The girl leaves the arena angry and hurt, barely keeping herself on her feet. She doesn’t remember who led her to RecoveryGirl or when her friends appear but she can remember the look on their faces and how she couldn’t find Bakugou under them.

CHAPTER 08
For the second time today, Y/N is sitting at the round table, waiting for the signal to enter the arena again. Once again Bakugou sits right next to her, quietly staring at the wall and not knowing what to say. Their break ended a few minutes ago but the two of them haven’t talked a word to one another. But this doesn’t keep them from staring at each other, when the other one isn’t looking. Sadly all of their friends notice it and are deeply annoyed.
It would be easy for Bakugou to turn his head in the other direction and talk with his friends but he stays seated, unsure why. In some other world he could admit that he’s nervous and that Y/N‘s presence, no matter how cold it seems, calms him down. He allows himself a quick look at her and notices how her hair turned back into its original brown color and that even her skin is darker again. This has to be a good sign, he thinks, she’s probably feeling better now. His eyes quickly turn back at the door as she catches his look. She always does and the boy isn’t sure how long he’d keep staring if no one would bother them.
„Don’t you dare to lose against an extra.“ Bakugou stands up as a bell rings. The next round is about to start and Y/N is the first one to fight. He doesn’t remember the name but it is the annoying purple guy. He has no doubts that she’ll win but he couldn’t leave without saying something. He doesn’t want to fight against her, if she’s still mad at him.
„Good luck, Guys!“ All of their friends wave to her and Sero, who’s right after the girl and smiles nervously. The boy has to fight against Todoroki and even though he tries to stay optimistic, everyone can see his fear.
„Are you okay?“ asks Y/N as they watch their friends leave. She looks at her best friend, who had lost his confident smile.
„Do you think I could win?“ Sero‘s voice is quiet, barely louder than a whisper, and his eyes are filled with self-doubt.
No. Is her first thought. Shoto Todoroki has the ability to fight with ice and fire and even if he only uses one part of it, he’s stronger than most of his classmates. Sero on the other hand is mediocre and has a different kind of quirk.
„You have to distract him. Todoroki has the social skills of a tourte. You are smart and can confuse him.“ Sero nods, noticing how she avoids answering his question.
„You have to get ready,“ he says and nods his head toward the door. Y/N gets on her feet and slowly walks toward the exit.
Shinsou Hitoshi. Y/N remembers him from a couple of weeks ago and she even saw him with Ojiro earlier yet his quirk is still a mystery to her.
The bell rings and the two metallic doors open themselves, leading the girl into a bright arena. The people around them are cheering as she enters and at the other side of the field appears Shinsou. A little further away is Kanai cheering and waving. She spots Mina and Bakugou in one of the higher seats. Even two red wings appeared at the rooftop, making her blush.
Y/N smiles at the boy, as they meet in the middle but he stays quiet and cold, only raising an eyebrow at her. Fine, she thinks and rolls her eyes internally. The whole country is watching them and this is her chance to show off, she doesn’t care if he’s an arrogant brat.
Midnight explains the rules and they get into position. Y/N frowns as she notices how the boy doesn’t seem to care about the fight. His hands are still in his pockets and he only smiles arrogantly as she pulls a bō from her hip, as if he wouldn’t even need a weapon against her. Who does he think he is? Y/N will kick him out like a dirty bug.
„Heard that you and the angry blond are together. Is that true?“
Bakugou? Y/N blinks in confusion, her mind collapsing and throwing her off. Out of all things, this was the last thing she thought he’d bring up during a competition. Is he making fun of her? He definitely doesn’t take her seriously, she notes.“What?“ she asks perplexed, not really paying attention to what she says. The girl only gets a devilish smile back as a reply, giving her even more reasons to be angry.
„Turn around and go.“
That’s it! Y/N thinks with cold eyes. No one gives me any orders! She is about to yell at him, for the audacity and stupidity he has, but then her body starts moving and just like that she loses her grip on reality. She starts screaming, so loud she would probably break something, and kicking with her legs yet nothing happens. She can feel how her body turns around and takes small steps towards the line. This can’t be real! Stop it!
She keeps on screaming, even though no one will hear it.“Stop! Please, stop! I surrender, stop it! Please, stop it! Keigo! Help me, please!“
Her breath is uncontrolled and fast, making her head spin. Y/N lost control over her body, taking it back to every memory she tried so hard to take apart and forget. It all comes back and drowns her in her own skin. Is this the punishment for her greed? For pretending she’s free? Reminding her that she’ll always be this grotesque and broken creature, used like a marionette. It is part of her and running in her blood. To think she could be someone else is foolish. She’ll lose the festival and her chances of proving herself. They’ll send her back to the cold room, blood smudged tiles and feces. They’ll drug and use her like a doll. The girl can still feel the bandages around her body and hear their whispers during the nights.
Y/N eyes wander over the viewers, looking for something that might help. Keigo, a teacher or at least a weapon to end this misery. Her eyes stop as she finds her friends. They are waving with their arms and yelling at her. Screaming, she should turn around and fight. I’m trying! She yells back but once again no one hears her. Her eyes fell immediately on Bakugou, as if he was the one she was looking for all along. He isn’t yelling or waving, only looking at her with a patient look in his red eyes. Did he know she’d fail? No, he doesn’t look satisfied.“Don’t lose to an Extra,“ his voice echoes through her mind, louder than any other dark memory. This is worse than an extra, she thinks.
Bakugou. Bakugou. Bakugou. He always awakens her desire to fight back. Y/N keeps repeating his name like a mantra, recalling every memory she has of him, while keeping eye contact. How they train every day together, knowing each other’s moves blind. His smile every morning when she arrives at the gates of U.A and how he tries to hide it with annoyed looks. The night they spend on the hospital balcony. Bakugou. Bakugou. Bakugou. How he smells like cologne and burned sugar. How his hands are so soft and gentle, whenever she feels them on her skin. His short temper and yelling that she finds comfort in. His pride and how she wants to be better than him just so he’d be pissed off. Bakugou who would probably tell her to go feral if someone bothers her, not caring for the consequences. Bakugou who would go feral for her, if he knew. Bakugou, who knows she’s stronger than the dark liquid pulling her back into the monster‘s claws, that lives inside her and whispers memories into her ear. This monster with glowing eyes, stabbing her in the back every time she closes her eyes, and bloody teeth, which she can feel on her shoulders. That child that once was alive and innocent too, before Hades took its humanity and turned it into a deformed creature. She won’t let the world see it.
„Think! Stop walking!“ Y/N yells at herself, still staring at the blond boy,“I can’t go back there!“ She can’t move her body, and as much as this terrifies her, she has to put it to the side and concentrate on something else. Y/N can feel some bones buried deep in the ground and tries to pull them out. The process is slow, for she can only use her mind but they finally rise from the ground and wrap themselves around her legs, binding her to the ground and keeping her in place. The urge to walk is still there but Y/N clenched at the bones with her whole willpower . At this point it is just a competition whose mind is stronger and Y/N is winning, because Shinsou starts running towards her. He’ll drag her out of the ring by hand if he has to but the moment he finally steps close enough, it’s too late.
The girl tries to concentrate on her setting. She’s standing in a UA arena under the bright sun. There are no chains, tiles or moldy floors. Surrounded by teachers and heroes, who’d stop them if something might happen. She’s not in danger. It’s only a festival, she recalls in her mind and takes a deep breath. A festival, against children who could never win against her. Y/N moves the bones on her legs to shift her body into his direction. She waited for him to come close and now he’s unter her hands. One quick move is enough to win this match. She puts her hands together, one pointing towards the sky and the other one in his direction, and as she swipes it towards him, he’s been punched out the ring. She drags him as far away as possible until the boy hits the wall with his back.
Y/N keeps staring at him, her hands still in the air and two tears, which she couldn’t hold back anymore, roll down her cheeks. As she finally looks up, she finds the crowd cheering but her eyes fall on the small section in the front rows, reserved for only famous and rich people. Four people stand there, completely unimpressed by her, and she notices how the woman at the front raises one of her eyebrows. This is not what she wanted to see. They’re displeased by her, she realizes while fear fills her veins. Y/N could recognize her anywhere, so how did she not notice them earlier. For how long have they been watching her? Does Keigo know they’re here? Why are they here? Something must be wrong, for them to appear. How could she lose herself right in front of them? This will have consequences! If they think she’s too weak they’ll take her from U.A or Keigo or even send her back. Y/N can feel the tears coming up and the itchiness on her whole body.
The girl turns around as Midnight calls out her name, announcing her victory, and smiles at the crowd before rushing into the cabins. Her mind is running laps, trying to find a reason why they might want to talk to her. Why did they even show up? Y/N stands up again as someone enters the door from outside and for a second she thought it might be them but a small whimper escapes her lips as Hawks walks in.
A bright smile lies on his lips but Y/N knows better, after all it was him who taught her how to fetch a smile even when all you want to do is cry and scream. Hawks is about to praise her for her win but Y/N interrupts him before he could even say a word. They both know his words would have no meaning at this moment. “Hawks, the commission is here,“ she whispers and holds onto his jacket, afraid they might storm in every second and pull her away.
Her voice is quiet and scared, brushing his smile away in an instant and letting his heart drop to the ground. So she knows, he thinks to himself. Hawks puts his hand on her head and puts his smile back on.“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of them,“ he says with a soft voice and pulls her into a hug, feeling how her hands clench on his jacket. A lie both of them are aware of but chose to believe. He always feared the day would come where the past would catch up but he still had hope. Seeing Y/N gives him hope. After all those years she’s become the girl she was always meant to be. Smart, fearless, loud and loved by everyone. Keigo made a promise to himself years ago. It was shortly after he took her in, when he swore to himself to find a way to get Y/N out of everything. He’d keep the commission as far away from her as he could, even if this meant he’d have to do things he’d hate himself for. He wouldn’t allow them to ruin her like they ruined them.
„I’m proud of you and I love you, okay?“ he whispers into her hair. Y/N only nods. The memories of all those people rebranded again into her mind. Their smiles, promises and lies. If you grow up surrounded by liars, every word loses its meaning until you don’t believe your own name anymore.
„Go to your friends, they’re waiting,“ he says with a smile and lets go of her. Y/N nods again and watches Keigo leave. For a moment she considers locking herself in the bathroom to cry but she’s not sure if she could stop crying and so Y/N will have to wait until she comes home and lays down at night. Until then she’ll show the commission that they don’t have to worry about her. She’ll beat everyone and win the festival, then they’ll leave them alone.

CHAPTER 07
,,CALM THE FUCK DOWN!“
,,SHUT THE FUCK UP AND RUN!“
The people in the stadium know that Bakugou is loud but they didn’t know that Y/N can be just as loud and aggressive. They certainly do now. Bakugou lost his temper when Monoma, an apounand from class 1B, provoked him and the girl lost her patience when he stole Bakugou‘s points. They still have points from the other headbands that Bakugou insisted to catch, but 10 million is a lot and none of them wants to lose against an arrogant brat. There is barely time left and every team is trying to catch either them or Monoma.
„Y/N! Do something!“ yells Bakugou furious, knowing that he can’t do anything from afar and has to trust his team, which means he has to depend on Y/N, who’s the only one that could help in any way.
The girl looks up to him and realizes that he doesn’t mean her skeletons. The dogs are holding back some of the other teams and the flying bones keep them from stealing more points. He wants her to break something, she thinks. Y/N looks back, as they chase after Monoma, who’s only a few feet ahead of them. The other teams are behind but due to Mina‘s acid and the skeletons they can’t get too close.
„Slow down!“ says the girl and concentrates on her moves. Creating new bones is similar to weaving, she once discovered. She can feel the thread running between her fingers and the longer she spins it, the better is the outcome. Weaving a whole body takes all of the energy she has left and she can feel how the animals drop lifeless to the ground. She can only concentrate on two things. The duplication and Monoma‘s team are her priority at this moment.
„Y/N!“ Bakugou wouldn’t wait any longer. Not if Monoma has his points and the other teams get closer to them. He looks down on his side and notices how Y/N has completely turned grey, reminding him of a dead person, while countless bones spring from her skin, ripping holes into her suit. The girl only throws a deadly glare at him as she feels his eyes on her and when he finally looks up again, trying to band her from his mind, he finds Monoma‘s front runner stumble over his own feet and take down their whole formation.
„That’s it!“ he screams happily as he sees a skeleton, as big and fast as Y/N, run past them. Monoma can’t even get up before bones snatch the headbands away from him. It does look spooky to see a human skeleton run through the arena but he couldn’t care less.
„Show ‘em how real pros fight!“ The second Bakugou jumps toward the skeleton and takes his headband from the bony hand, to hold it up, it crumbles, falling apart next to him and for a short moment he’s terrified Y/N might break down too but as he turns around he only sees her smiling. There is still a stern look in her eyes but then a proud smile appears on her lips and Bakugou can’t stop himself from admiring her for a moment. She might lose her temper sometimes, but he starts liking it too. This whole calm act is a mask, this much he learned, and since then he tries his best to provoke her. She might yell at him but at least there is a trace of life behind her eyes.
The people around them start cheering after the signal rings but Bakugou can’t hear anything. Everything turns into a white background noise and leaves him in a bubble, isolated from the whole world. The boy looks at his friends. Kirishima has already pulled both of the girls into a big hug and he can see Sero and Kaminari running towards them. He doesn’t even complain as they pull him into the group hug unit his eyes fall back on Y/N, who’s still stabbing him with her eyes. It’s not hard to guess that she’s still angry with him, because he let himself get provoked by Monoma. Bakugou can’t deny it was stupid but he threw him out of balance and it didn’t even made any sense. “I’ll take your quirk, your points and even your girl,“ said the blond boy. Monoma doesn't intend to steal anyone’s partner, for that matter, he was just trying to be provocative and Bakugou knows that, yet he lost control because the first thought he had was „Y/N would never do that.“ He wasn’t even angry at Monoma but himself, for having such stupid thoughts. Angry because he thought Y/N was „his girl“ and because Monoma would even dare to think he could possibly take her away from him.
The students finally leave the arena for a break and Y/N is the first one to rush into the locker room. She lets herself sink to the floor of the cabin and leans over the toilet, but nothing happens. After a few more minutes she sits back and closes her eyes. Her heart is pounding, her hands shaking and the whole world is spinning way too fast. She’s slowly losing her grip on reality and sinking into a dark mess that won’t let her get out. She can feel it extending in her body.
„Y/N?“
The girl straightens up and turns her head to the door, where Momo‘s voice comes from. She quickly stands up, ignoring the pain in her legs and head and flushes the toilet. I should probably eat something, she thinks.
“Are you all right?“ she asks as Y/N steps out. Judged by her look are the chances high that her skin is still grey and most of her hair too. She probably looks like a ghost. Momo‘s offering her a hand, afraid she might collapse like the skeletons, but Y/N just smiles and walks towards the others. „Of course. Let’s get some food. I’m starving.“ She follows her friends into the cafeteria, still nauseous, and takes a seat at the big table. Most of their classmates are already there, stuffing their faces with food, and for some time nobody talks.
„Let’s go for a walk! I saw stands with sweets or games earlier!“ Mina is the first one, who starts talking after the meal. She grabs Y/N and Denki by their hands to pull them onto their feet, to start marching towards the exit. The others follow, even Bakugou which surprises most of them. He hasn’t talked much since the game ended and Y/N doesn’t complain.
„Hey, Y/N. The doctor is looking for you.“ Momo, who’s walking next to her, still a little worried for her well being, points towards the door and behind all the students is Kanai standing and waving, not carrying that other people than students and teachers are not allowed to enter.
„Go ahead, I’ll be there in a moment,“ she tells her friends and rushes towards the man, whose smile reminds her of AllMight but less creepy.
„Oh, there you are, my dove! Are you okay? Does anything hurt? Oh, I’m so proud of you!“ The man with the soft brown hair takes her hands into his and lets his eyes wander over her body, looking for any visible injuries. He frowns as he notices how her skin is still grayish.
„Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.“ Y/N keeps staring at his sneakers, clueless what else to do. She never knows what to do with her body when someone comes too close. Every move feels awkward and she’s afraid someone might realize that she’s only improvising. How do you act if someone shows you affection without looking like a fool?
„Can I hug you?“ he finally asks, quieter and less excited. Y/N nods, her cheeks burning.“Of course,“ she says, reminding herself that Kanai has always been very affectionate. That she has hugged him many times and that she only has to put her arms around his shoulder for a few seconds before pulling back. Reminding herself that he smells like cologne and coffee and that everything else is just in her head.
„You were amazing and we are so proud of you, Y/N.“
Y/N hugs him tighter and bites the inside of her cheek, to keep herself from crying, an annoying habit that started a few months ago and is hard to get rid of. She’d get overwhelmed by her feelings from the simplest things. Kanai cooking her favorite dinner, Momo texting her „good night“ or Bakugou waiting for her at the gates of UA in the morning, so they could go inside together. She’d realize that they actually like her. They are her family and friends, two things she thought she had lost the rights to.
„Thank you,“ she whispers, afraid if she talks louder she might burst into tears.
„Keigo is still on patrol but he said he watched you too.“ The man has let go of her but is still smiling, a different smile Y/N notices. The same one he has whenever he and the pro hero talk during dinner. It’s softer than usual and dreamy. Will they ever talk about it? she wonders with a sad smile.“You should go back to your friends. I just wanted to check on you.“
Y/N nods smiling and watches him leave through the door, a little disappointed that he didn’t hug her goodbye. As the girl turns around, she finds her friends still sitting at their table and waiting for her. They’re patiently waiting and talking with one another. She quickly rushes towards them and as they notice her they stand up, ready to go.“You ready?“ Sero casually throws his arm around her and smiles as they start walking out.
The students who don’t participate in the tournaments build many booths with food, games and souvenirs. It smells deliciously like cotton candy and other snacks. Somehow it reminds her of a carnival. “Let’s play that game! I want a Crimson Riot-plushy!“ Kirishima points towards a red stand, with countless stuffed animals and hero merchandise. The game is pretty simple, throwing balls at empty cans, and so they get on their places to start.
Everyone except Bakugou and Momo, who have no interest in winning stuffed animals. They stand next to each other and watch their friends. Y/N to be specific, who’s standing next to Sero with a happy smile on her lips as she throws the softball. She turns to the boy next to her as the flies cans fall and laughs in victory. A laugh Bakugou could never get enough of and is willing to take himself apart and put him back together in a way that he could make her laugh like this. Bakugou can only take his eyes off her as he perceives someone giggling next to him.
„What?“ he murmurs angrily and tries to hide his rosy cheeks from Momo but the girl only giggles. „Oh, nothing.“

CHAPTER 06
„Fuck you.“ Y/N‘s chest keeps rising rapidly, while she sits on the ground trying to calm down and imagining to stab Bakugou with her eyes. The boy is also trying to catch a breath but a satisfied grin lies on his face. He won the damn race. It wasn’t even close. Y/N almost started crying out of frustration as he surpassed her with his blasts and slowed down, without noticing. Y/N tried to sprint towards him but the second she ran faster, he just crossed the line. Bakugou won.
The people around them are still cheering and calling his name.“I told you, I’m gonna win,“ he says slowly and straightens up. He walks towards her and Y/N wonders if she collapsed and hit her head, as he offered her a hand.“I should have broken your legs,“ she murmurs, loud enough that only he could hear it and gets on her feet by herself.
Y/N tries to ignore Bakugou, it only brings her mood down, and so she looks around. She lost Kanai under all these people but more students entered the arena, her friends within them. Sero enters swinging on his tape and lands near her, also almost collapsing as he finally stops. The brown haired girl walks closer to him and sits down. „How *gasp* did you *gasp* surpass *gasp* Todoroki?!“ he asks and looks over to the boy with the scar, who’s talking to some boy from the support course.
„Wasn’t that hard,“ she smiles and tries to avoid eye contact. Did Todoroki feel it? Does he know it was her and not only his stamina?“Look, Mina and Jirou are here.“ Y/N points to the two girls, walking slowly towards them, and hopes that none of them will ask any other questions.
She never had a problem lying to others but recently it makes her feel uncomfortable. She has already started keeping track of the things that might make them hate her. The lies, the jumpiness, her antipathy for horror movies and chaos. The way she never actually answers questions about her childhood or family. The fact that she doesn’t know much about pop culture and too much about some unusual topics like lock picking and cheap motels. But it is hard to know what is actually accurate, for they don’t seem to mind Y/N. They know that she can have a short temper, has weird interests and doesn’t really like being touched but they keep spending their time with her. They befriended and accept her, or at least the closest version she can give them of her, but she keeps lying to them, afraid they might turn their backs on her if they found out who she really is. About the things she did and where she came from. Of course, she could stay distant and only talk to them if necessary, it certainly would hurt less when they leave,…but she doesn’t want to go back to the state she was before knowing them. Sad, alone and without any joy. Sometimes, whenever they go out for boba or food, she would catch herself smiling at her friends, still in disbelief that she has the privilege to be their friend. Y/N wants to hug them so badly and thank them for every second she’s allowed to spend with them. But on these days, late at night when she stares at her reflection in the mirror and remembers how she once looked, she’d also catch herself praying to the universe. Begging for forgiveness and more time, promising she’d never ask for anything else in her life. She knows that this happiness is only temporary and that every lie she tells only shortens her time.
„Let’s find the other,“ says Sero and helps her up on her feet. Reunited with their friends, they wait until all of the other students finish the race, so that the next round could start. Bakugou and Y/N are praised for their accomplishments and they try to smile for the cameras but whenever they feel the others look at them their smiles shift. The girl just throws deadly glares at him, whenever he comes too close. She has no interest in whatever he has to say and after the second time Bakugou stops trying to approach her.
He’s glad when Midnight starts talking again, so that he doesn’t have to, yet he keeps looking over to the girl, whose skin and hair is slowly turning into a grayish tone. He didn't know what he wanted to say. He is impressed by her stamina and how she actually ran but on the other hand were they allowed to do what they want. She could have easily taken the others down, just like Midoriya who accidentally broke someone’s foot with one of his support items. He also wanted to apologize but for what for? It’s not his fault, yet he feels bad. There are too many thoughts about Y/N in his head, he decides.
„Bakugou Katsuki will be worth 10 million points!“
The blond boy blinks a few times as he notices how everyone stares at him. He puffs annoyed and rolls his eyes. He could still win, even if he has to fight alone, something that always works better anyway. Kirishima still approaches him to form a team together.
„Come on Bro, I can be your unbreakable horse!“ says the red haired boy and grins bright. He can’t deny that Kirishima wouldn’t be a great teammate and useful. It still doesn’t solve the problem that they need two more persons.
„We still need more people,“ says Bakugou and keeps looking around. Five of their fifteen minutes already passed, most of the students already formed teams and it doesn’t look like many want to be on Bakugou‘s team.
Todoroki, Momo, Kaminari and Sero. A quite dangerous team, worth many points.
Ochaco, Tokoyami, Midoriya and some weird girl with glasses. Mediocre but he doesn’t want to know what weird stuff Deku will come up with. He also wants to avoid the other boy by all chances.
Of course there are still Y/N and Mina but they are still surrounded by students, who want to be on their team yet it doesn’t look like they want anyone from them.
„Let’s ask the girls!“ Before he could even start protesting, Kirishima already grabbed him to run towards their classmates.
„Mina! Y/N! Let’s team up!“ he yells over the crowd, who look intimidated by them. Bakugou stares at his friends. The girl with the pink skin is looking up at Y/N, waiting for an answer and after a long moment, she finally nods.
„See! We’ll definitely win!“
Bakugou doesn’t react to his best friend but keeps staring at the girl. Why would she team up with them? It’s clearly a disadvantage and even stupid. They might work well as a gram but they will be everyone‘s target and she doesn’t even want to use her quirk properly. They could both lose.
„You are stupid,“ he murmurs towards her and crosses his arms.
„Yet, here you are,“ she hisses just as angry. There is no trace of the softness he enjoys in her voice but she also doesn’t sound like the time she was face to face with Shigaraki. They might not like each other but they have to admit that they fight well together. Even better since they started training together. Which is partly the reason Y/N agreed on teaming up together. They are her friends and she can trust them. She knows that Kirishima and Mina are clingy and often throw themselves on people to give hugs. Bakugou’s touches are already familiar to her, due to their training, and she can tolerate them. This is Y/N‘s best chance of winning this game. Win the festival. Become popular. Find an internship. Become a successful pro Hero. This is how she’ll survive.
„What can you even do, you are basically quirkless. And don’t think I’ll carry you!“
„You should stop complaining about my quirk and think about a plan!“ Y/N tries her best to stay calm. Calm and rational. She has to show off her quirk in a good way but also win, which is more difficult than she thought, considering the fact that she has to work with Bakugou.
„We don’t need a plan, just do what I say!“
„Bakugou, do you know what the word ,team‘ fucking means?!“ she turns to him, her eyes deadly and annoyed by his bare existence. How can he be one of the people she feels comfortable around?
„Guys, we should probably calm down.“ Kirishima interrupts their conversation as an explosion appears on his friend‘s palm. He and Mina slowly start questioning their decision.
„He’s right.“ Y/N turns away from the boy and takes a deep breath. They only have a few minutes left until the game starts and they still have to come up with a strategy.
It’s obvious that Kirishima has to be in the front. Mina and Y/N in the back so that they can attack, while Bakugou tries to get more headbands or at least keep his.
„Don’t let me fall,“ says Bakugou as he climbs on them. Kirishima has already hardened his body, while Y/N moves her hand in a certain way. After a few seconds seven familiar looking skeletons rise from the earth. Bakugou once again notices how her hairline slowly turns grey, just like her skin.
„Try not to destroy them,“ she says as each one starts moving around like a puppet. Two of them have the shape and size of wolves standing in front of Kirishima, one is definitely a snake and the others are bird-like creatures flying over their heads.
„You found dogs? That’s so cool!“
Y/N smiles as Mina takes a closer look at the wolves. During the last few weeks she got better at using whole animals and can hold them for more than a hour. The fact that her classmates think they’re cool gave her even more confidence.
„Stay calm. We just have to keep our points and we win.“ Y/N keeps staring at the other teams but in the corner of her eye she sees Bakugou nod. Calm and rational, she repeats for herself.

CHAPTER 05
Y/N never had a good sense of time and if there wasn‘t a digital clock on the wall, she might think time has spotted existing at all. It’s weird how two weeks can pass and feel like an afternoon but at the same time one hour can last forever.
12:49
In less than ten minutes she and her class will enter the arena and the sports festival will officially begin. All first graders will participate and fight for first place. Pro heroes will watch them, along with Japan and a million cameras.
Y/N groans and leans back in her seat to take a deep breath. There is no reason to be nervous, she keeps telling herself. Hawks and other pro heroes are guarding the facility, only selected press will be present and out of all first years, she probably has the best chances of winning. But there is still this little voice in her head, telling her to run away as fast and far as she can. Somewhere where no one could ever find her. Somewhere south where the sun never leaves your body cold and flowers grow around the house. Maybe one day.
„Scared you gonna lose in the first round, Skeleton?“ Bakugou grins, as he notices her worried look. It’s his way of trying to cheer her up.
Y/N looks up from her fingers. Her friends - Y/N still feels weird whenever they use this term - are sitting around the table, chatting before the competitions start. They all crush about Mt. Lady and Hawks, a conversation Y/N isn’t very interested in. Neither is Bakugou, who’s sitting next to her, something that became completely natural for them.
„No, but you should be scared, cause I’ll beat you,“ she grins back and leans forwards, adjusting her hair that Momo braided. Y/N doesn’t have the desire to win the festival but to show the world that she’s not a threat and evil. Beating Bakugou would of course give her some motivation and sports spirit, yet her top goal is to leave a good first impression.
„Bet.“
„You wanna bet?“ she asks with a smile, that’s a little too bright to be real. The habit to smile whenever she’s nervous or uneasy started a few years ago, as some teachers told her she looks frightening whenever she’s concentrating or thinking. After all those years it’s quite hard to have a friendly face.
„Only if you use your quirk like at USJ,“ he says and Y/N waits for a smile or grin but his face stays stern like always and she realizes he doesn’t joke around.
„What?“ Why would he say something like that?
„If you won’t use your quirk, I won’t fight against you.“ Y/N leans back, her smile gone and hands balled into fists. She keeps studying his expression but she can’t guess what he’s thinking. Is he joking or does he want to destroy her chances of getting good publicity? Bakugou got stronger but he still can’t win against her, so he has to be joking or have other intentions. Is he mocking her?
Y/N doesn’t bother to look at him as she stands up to get ready, too worn out to listen to him.“You can’t barely beat me in training. What makes you believe you could under different circumstances?“
All first grades have to gather in the arena, so Midnight can explain the rules to them. There are more than a hundred students standing closely next to each other. So close that Y/N has to bite the inside of her cheeks as she feels Momo’s breath on her neck. Since they shared a hospital room, the two girls became friends and spent more time with each other. The black haired girl is just easy to talk to and doesn’t seem like she’d judge someone which is surprising, considering the fact that her family could probably buy Y/N. But it doesn’t matter if they are fiends and that Y/N knows that the other girl would never disrespect her, she still feels her stomach twist in disgust. The thousand people around them scare her even more. Everyone is recording and talking so loud but their voices just melt into a loud noise.
„Isn’t that the doctor from the hospital?“ Momo asks and points towards the first row, leaving goosebumps on her neck. Only famous people sit in the lounges but right there, next to Rock Lock, sits Kanai. She has a good view on him and tries to concentrate on his appearance. He’s wearing casual clothes and his glasses, which make him look like an old man. A bright smile appears on his face as he finally spots Y/N and starts waving. So proud and cheerful it fills her with anxiety. She didn’t think he’d come but she also never asked, in fear she might seem clingy or sentimental. He might treat her like family but the world has shown her that this bound means nothing. He only stops as she waves back with a shy smile. Will he still smile if she starts fighting? When she fletched her teeth and breaks their bones. Kanai had never seen her train. He wouldn’t be much of a help during combat training, he leaves this to Keigo, instead he checks on her health.
Y/N puffs as someone pushes her aside, she gets even more annoyed after she realizes it’s Bakugou, who’s walking towards the podium. If it wasn’t for him, Y/N would be up there. She could make a good first impression and the scouts would remember her.“I just wanna say… I’m gonna win.“
Bakugou is fully convinced that he’ll fight against Y/N and win. He won’t leave this arena until he’s standing over her with a smile on his face. For once, he’ll show her that he’s stronger and that he could win against everyone, no matter how many bones she breaks. The two of them have to train together since the USJ incident, because none of their classmates would willingly fight one of them for they don’t fool around. Bakugou can’t stand the fact that she wins most of their duels but at least he now knows how her quirk exactly works. The more she reproduces her own bones, the easier they break. She can’t trust the ground, because there probably might not be any remains. A couple of days ago, he saw her sink a few of the bones back into the earth, at the exact same position they appeared. When he asked why, she told him that the dead also deserve to rest in peace after she disturbed it. He also once witnessed her healing her finger after landing wrong. But the one thing he hasn’t seen yet, is her controlling others. No matter how hard he tries to make her angry, she never uses it on anyone.
Obstacle Race.
Y/N sighs as she follows her friends to the start line. She hates running and during a race her quirk won’t help her much. Hawks‘ wings would be useful now, she thinks to herself and looks up where the winged hero flies round the building. Another growl escapes her lips as she watches Bakugou and Momo jump over the crowd. By the time Y/N has passed the entrance without getting run over, are the robots already beaten.
Her motivation and mood are already down because of Bakugou and Todoroki, who almost froze her, but all the people are slowly getting on her nerves and the whole running makes her even more furious. Why does she have to run like this!? Is her quirk useless for anything but pretending to be a chiropractor? Y/N could break all of their feet and just walk past them, while they try to crawl. Why can’t she do that? Heroes are not supposed to look pretty but to save people.
Her grumpy mood is alleviated, as she reaches the crowd of students, standing in front of a cliff. Even Bakugou and Todoroki are still standing there, looking into the deep.“I thought you already gave up,“ murmurs the blond boy and looks over to her, while Y/N starts pulling out more and more of her spines. If she forms them into a long and wide plank, it would only take her a few minutes to cross the cliff.
„In your dreams,“ she wheezes, still exhausted from the sprinting, and starts running over the grey plank that’s barely wide enough for her feet. One after another, she keeps repeating as the other side comes closer. Her movements are calculated and calm, defying the laws of gravity with dangerous graze. Yet her joy is limited, for Todoroki is already running toward the next stage. Y/N didn’t think the boy would be much of a competition, for he barely talks to anyone or shows interest, but she won’t let a rich brat get in the way of her good publicity.
Y/N is still behind the two of them but at least she passes the others and has some time to catch a breath. The landmines are barely an obstacle for her, for her feet barely seem to touch the ground, and soon she passes Bakugou with a grin on her face.“Must feel like home with all the mines around you.“
„Shut up! Stop talking and break his legs!“
Y/N‘s smile disappears the second these words leave his mouth and even though Bakugou is still staring at their classmate, he notices her expression change.
Todoroki is only a couple of feet away and for a moment Y/N considers bending his ankle. Not much of course, only so that he’d trip and fall, but then everyone would know that it wasn’t just an accident. Her friends would know and would think she’s mad. The only thing Y/N can do, without being caught, is to slow him down. Pulling his bones towards her and letting them think he’s only getting tired.
Y/N hates running. She hates it so much, she could scream and yet she keeps pulling herself further. She doesn’t care about breathing right and having a good posture only to keep her legs going. She is just tired and all she wants to do is collapse on the ground and let the world revolve around itself. Only a few more feet, she keeps repeating and smiles as the entrance appears in her sight. She can hear the people cheering and even Present Mic talking about Aizawa. She can also hear someone behind her yelling and as she turns around, Bakugou is right behind her.
„Take that, Skeleton!“

CHAPTER 04
Y/N has spent many nights at the hospital and knows the way to the smoking area. The third floor across the toilets. A long balcony with chairs and a view over the park. It’s quiet at night but if she listens closely, she could hear the cars. This night she hears especially many cars and sirens. It’s quite warm and the first birds are already chirping, calling in the morning. It’s calming, the cold air clears her mind and cools down her burning skin.“It is over now,“ whispers the gentle breeze, kissing her cheeks.
Her face is expressionless and she’s staring at the grayish blue sky, her mind somewhere far away under the sakura blossoms. Her brown hair is still in the same braid from the previous day but a flew more of the grey curls fell out. She looks beautiful. The kind of beautiful that brings you down on your knees and makes you want to capture it in some way. A dangerous kind of beauty, for she knows brothers would go to war against each other for her. No war could hold him back. Bakugou thinks to himself as he finally steps out on the balcony. He wandered around the whole hospital, trying to find something that would occupy him and somehow his feet carried him to Y/N.
„What are you doing here?“ he huffs, annoyed by his own thoughts, and takes a seat across the table from her. Compared to the non stopping sounds of machines and his mother’s screams still ringing in his ears sounds her voice like a warm bliss. He doesn’t have to be afraid to say something because he knows she wouldn’t sound like they do. Even when she’s mad or yells at him, sounds her voice beautiful. Angry but in a way, that he’s happy she’s letting it all out.
„Early bird,“ she answers him with a soft voice and turns her head towards him, an empty smile on her lips, that makes his chest shrink. He’d rather listen to her yelling than to see the numb mask on her face. “And you?“
„Mineta talks in his sleep.“
They both lied.
He hasn’t closed his eyes for a second, still going over every detail of the attack. Analyzing his moves, the villain‘s and his classmates‘. Bakugou keeps staring at a point behind her head, while he talks. The more often he replays this one moment, the stupider he feels. Y/N almost completely shut down as he grabbed her to fly them out. Her body tensed up and her hands even shook. He should have asked before grabbing her. Looking back he remembers how panicked and scared she was when the whole cafeteria stormed towards the exit. It was only a moment where the fear showed itself, before she could rip it apart again, but Bakugou noticed. Somehow his gaze always finds her.
„We can go home today,“ Y/N responds with a calm voice, whereupon Bakugou sighs. He can’t stand sharing a room with Mineta, smelling like disinfectants and wearing the uncomfortable clothes the nurse gave to him. He can’t stand his parents any less. They visited for a few hours and spent them screaming at him but ignoring each other. Even now that they’re gone, he can still hear his mother’s voice about how careless and stupid he is. He doesn’t like the hospital but he hates home.
„I know.“
Y/N nods and turns her head to the sky, her smile slowly fading back into the tired expression. Bakugou doesn’t care about manners or being friendly and so she knows he doesn’t care if looks exhausted. They stay silent for a few minutes, not knowing what else to say but also not wanting to go away. There’s a reason they never spend time alone, considering the fact they share the same friends. They discuss during lessons, bicker about petty stuff in their free time and laugh at each other but they never really had a real conversation.
Bakugou‘s mind runs laps, trying to find something he could say, because this silence is unbearable. Not only because he remembers his parents and feels awkward but he also liked listening to her voice. He finally clears his throat and opens his mouth.“You fight good, Skeleton.“
Y/N looks back to him and smiles, not because she wants to be polite and friendly - they both surely don’t care about that, but because she’s amused and Bakugou once again realizes how pretty she is. „So did you,“ she whispers and turns her head back to the view. The sky is slowly turning into a lighter color. These early hours never seem real to them, as if there is a world they entered. Different from the rest of the day, where everything has some kind of order, there is nothing you have to do at 4 a.m. This is a different world, one where nothing has to have a label and where everything can be okay if they want to. They stepped out the timeline into a creation only they control.
„You said that you can’t control others' bones.“
The girl clenches her jaw and frowns her forehead. Maybe he shouldn’t have asked, he thinks to himself but it’s already too late.“I can to a certain extent,“ she answers to his surprise, barely loud enough to hear her words.
This might be the most powerful and useful part of her quirk but she hates it. Y/N knows how horrendous it is to be controlled by someone else and she doesn’t wish this for anyone. Calling these bones from the earth takes way more energy, yet alone the nightmares she has, and recreating her own ones makes her bones fragile and weak. But what is the other option? Failing as a hero and losing the little freedom she has? Nightmares and exhaustion are a price she’s willing to pay.
Y/N stays quiet for a moment. Hesitating, arguing in her mind if she could ask him, the question that’s been wandering in her head, but it’s Bakugou. He doesn’t care about giving someone the comfort of a lie.“Do you think I was too...brutal?“ Villainous is the word that is laying on her tongue but she can’t tell him that.
The boy looks up as the words reach him, muscles tensening.“I’m no one to judge your actions,“ he answers stiff, noticing how she only exhales. She hoped for a different answer, one that would disagree and give her comfort but he doesn’t quite know how. Bakugou knows what she did. Knows how brutal and ugly it all looked.
Bakugou was bewildered when he listened to Mineta. How she threw Shigaraki like a softball and broke his bones like nothing, about how she fixed her bones and then Aizawa‘s. He can’t deny that her quirk is powerful and that he’s intimidated by her. With such a quirk she could fight so many dangerous villains. It also annoys him that he hasn’t beaten her while she uses her full powers.“You were protecting Aizawa-Sensei. It’s okay to be brutal, how else are we supposed to fight villains?“
„But doesn’t that mean we are no better than them?“ Bakugou isn’t sure who she means exactly but it’s probably not only the villains who attacked.
„We don’t attack innocent people.“ The boy almost laughs at his own words. Out of all people he’s the last one to talk about attacking the innocent. “We just fight the monsters for those who can’t fight back.“
What even defines a monster? Y/N wonders but doesn’t say a thing and only sits up.“Maybe we should go back inside. It’s late.“ Y/N stands up from the chair and is about to leave as he raises his voice. She doesn’t want to think about Aizawa and how they carried him out of the building or about Shigaraki and how she was willing to do things to him. Asking such things is stupid, she thinks.
„Stay.“ It’s almost a whisper, barely loud enough to be heard. Sleepy Bakugou is surprisingly soft and kind, at least for his conditions. This is something not many people are allowed to witness but in this little world they created, nothing has to be normal. Y/N was willing to talk about her quirk, something she apparently doesn’t like, so Bakugou can allow himself to be soft.
„Not really in the mood to be yelled at.“ Y/N looks down at him and notices how he frowns, before taking a deep breath.
„I won’t yell,“ he finally says and even though she doesn’t fully believe him, she sits back in her chair. None of them wants to be left alone with their own thoughts.
They overlook time and soon the morning sun kisses their cheeks a good morning. They talk about petty stuff, nothing that’s related to hero training. For a few hours they’re just two teenagers without any responsibilities. Y/N tells him about the latin songs that Sero showed her and how her „uncle“ taught her how to make pancakes. Bakugou tells her stories about his childhood that make her laugh so hard tears start rolling down her cheeks. They keep each other company, so they wouldn’t think about the things they saw earlier, slowly losing their masks.
At 7 a.m Dr.Kanai finds them, on his way to his first smoking break, and sends them back to their rooms, where they separate unwillingly. They leave their little world behind and just like that the past hours become a memory neither of them will recall. By the time school starts, their truce ends completely. Bickering during the breaks, competitions at rankings and discussions about irrelevant topics. In some way this is how they help each other get over the events.
They might find comfort in them but their classmates however don’t seem to like the discussions. Y/N notices how everyone flinches whenever a door gets shut a little too loud or how they avoid bigger crowds. The two of them are often the last one to go, for somehow they miss what they had this one early morning.
Bakugou and Y/N sit in the cafeteria, surrounded by background noises yet it’s still quiet at their table. Momo is meeting with Iida at the moment, Denki went to the bathroom and Sero and Kirishima are looking for some snacks. It’s only the two of them sitting at the table, not knowing what to say. Whenever the two of them are alone they fall silent. This little world, that was once the hospital balcony, expands between the distance of their bodies but it never grows big enough, since someone interrupts them - maybe they’re just too far away from each other.
„Are you nervous about the sports festival?“ Y/N asks with rosy cheeks to finally break the awkward silence. She’s still nervous to talk to her classmates, afraid they might think she’s dangerous or disgusting because of the things she did. The blond boy also talks less since the incident - he too noticed how their classmates are still on guard and tense. But when they’re alone it’s less exhausting. They don’t have to tiptoe around words or think before acting. He doesn’t know why they processed the attack quicker than their classmates but somehow he has the feeling it’s because of Y/N.
Bakugou looks up from his plate to meet her grin. A few days ago Aizawa Sensei, whose sight gives them goosebumps, informed them about the annual U.A sports festival. Since then they all just train and spy on the other classes to find out who their opponent might be. Y/N can’t deny that Shinsou Hitoshi didn’t intimidate her. He reminds her of Bakugou but quieter.“Of course not! I’m gonna beat these useless weaklings!“
A grin grows on her lips, as small explosions appear on his palms. Bakugou‘s still loud and grumpy when the two of them talk and Y/N finds that comforting, considering the fact that he knows what she’s capable of doing.“Yeah, until you have to fight against me. You might beat everyone but I’m still better than you, BoomBoomBoy.“
„Dream on, Skeleton.“

CHAPTER 03
„Looks like you got some help, Eraserhead,“ says the man with a smoky voice, as he comes closer towards Y/N.
Stay calm! She reminds herself and looks back at the man in front of her. Y/N takes one last look around, to make sure no one is watching, before she twists her fingers. She feels the rotten hands tighten around his neck and the hot breath of past ghosts on hers. The dark liquid springing from her spine slowly taking over her limbs.
„Call that thing back,“ she demands him and points at the beast, which is still holding Aizawa captive. She tries her best to sound calm and confident but the sight of her teachers gives her the chills. His elbow seems injured and there is just so much blood.
The man stops and lets out a gasp, trying to pull away the hands around his neck that are slowly choking him but it’s for nothing. Y/N has them under her control. He croaks something she can’t understand and before she can even react, has the beast grabbed her by the throat and pinned down to the floor. Head and shoulders crashing on the floor, spreading the pain in her whole body and pressing the last bit of air out.
Y/N squints her eyes and holds her breath. The pain in her back and chest are hardly bearable and she has difficulties keeping herself conscious, let alone keeping the hands under her control and so she lets go of them, trying to keep her torso from breaking. The monster probably broke her shoulder, if not more. Her head spins again and if she could breathe she’d scream out of frustration and curse him into the darkest pits of hell.
„Tomura Shigaraki.“
Y/N clenches her jaw as the dark smoke appears out of nowhere. If she could only reach out for the hands or at least the spine, so she wouldn’t feel so defenseless and weak. She doesn’t want to die like that! How cruel do the gods have to be to give her a real life and then let her die under a disgusting creature. This surely has to be a joke!
„One of the students got out of the facility. Heroes are probably on their way here.“
A whimper escapes her throat. Keigo. She doesn’t even notice how a tear runs down her face. By now he’s probably heard about the attack, which is why her phone won’t stop ringing, but even he’s not fast enough to get here in time. She doesn’t want to hope he'll arrive quickly enough to save them, she learned that years ago…but dear god everything in her body hurts. Her mouth tastes like iron and black dots dance around her eyes.“You know this is your destiny,“ whispers the dark voice into her ear.
„There is no way we can win, if dozens of pros show up.“
The man, Tomura Shigaraki, keeps talking but Y/N doesn’t listen. She only opens her eyes, as the pressure on her body disappears, letting her gasp for air. The beast stepped back and lets him get closer to her. Shigaraki’s standing right above her and she can’t do anything except to hold her breath. Her body is paralyzed, not only from pain but also fear. She has to admit, she didn’t though that’s how her live would end. She didn’t even except to survive this long.
„This is what you get for believing someone will save you.“ Says the quiet little voice in the back of her mind as his hand touches her forehead. She saw what he did with Aizawa‘s arm and can only hope it won’t hurt that much.
„You really are so cool.“
Y/N opens her eyes in an instant. She’s not dead or partly dust, she realizes. Her eyes follow the man where they meet Aizawa, who’s staring at Shigaraki with his glowing eyes. Behind him, above the stairs, small explosions and screams are perceptible. Bakugou. He’d probably laugh at the voice and tell her to fuck off. Yell because she’s stupid enough to believe a voice that has been wrong so many times. Tell her that he’d never lose to such a weak basdart. Y/N can see his face and anger floods her veins. What does he even know? She has survived worse than this bony son of a bitch! She won’t give the universe the satisfaction of dying under a brain dead monster, like a helpless girl. They’ll have to free Hades to bring her down to her knees.
Y/N let’s out an annoyed scream and kicks Shigaraki away from her, while trying to get on her feet before that beast attacks again. Her left shoulder blade is broken, just like her femur, she notes and steps closer.
„I’ll break you.“ Her voice is calm again and so cold, it reminds her of the men back then. They had no scruple but neither does she. She hesitated earlier, but now she doesn’t waste a thought and pulls the hands tighter around Shigaraki‘s neck. She watches him gasp for air again and falls on his knees, as she breaks his calf bones, ignoring the loud noise in the background. This is for trying to take my life, she thinks. She loosens the hands, letting him catch a breath before bending his rips to the inside.“That’s for Aizawa-Sensei,“ she murmurs and pulls him back on his feet by his throat. Tearing out his teeth comes next, she thinks. Y/N doesn’t need a reason anymore for anger has taken over her mind. The liquid has numbend her mind and senses.
Right when she leans in to step closer, someone grabs her again and snaps her back into reality. Her eyes widen at the realization, what she almost did. What she wanted to do.
„Get back to the entrance and take Aizawa with you.“
The moving finally stops and Y/N sees All Might standing in front of her, shielding them for Shigaraki and the others. Tsu and Mineta standing next to her, their eyes switching from Aizawa to her and back. Y/N only keeps staring into the void. Where did these thoughts come from? What hero would ever do such a thing? Did someone see her? Only then she raises her eyes from the ground and fall immediately on their teacher, pulling her back into reality. Now is not the time to worry about something that can’t be changed. They’re still under attack.
The man lays on the ground, unconscious and injured. His arms and some rips are broken but his elbow is completely shattered. Y/N steps closer, falling onto her knees. At this point, she doesn’t even care if someone sees her and lays her hand on her shoulder. A quiet whimper escapes her lips as the bones move back into their original place. As the pain slowly starts fading into a background noise, she leans over Aizawa to let her hand hover over his elbow. By the time she sets the bones back, where they belong, is her hand shaking and turning grey. Much more and she’ll start breaking like fragile ice under the warm sun.
„Y/N“
The girl flinches as someone touches her shoulder, only to realize it’s Tsu. Her classmates are standing right next to her, looking confused and worried, maybe even scared. “Are you alright? Your skin is very pale.“
„I’m fine, but you have to get Aizawa-Sensei out,“ she answers and stands up. The spinning in her head is finally slowing down and she can move all of her limbs. Her eyes wander over the place, looking for AllMight, the beast or even Bakugou. Somehow her eyes fall to the whole in the roof and her heart feels lighter as she sees two wings fly under the sun. Keigo. That’s where she has to go, to find Shigaraki.
„What about you?“ asks Mineta and carefully picks up Eraserhead‘s legs.
„Gotta find the others.“
The whole place might be pure chaos but Y/N can still feel the countless hands. This time she won't make any mistakes. She keeps running towards the mess, as the wings appear in the corner of her eye again, closer but pitchblack and for a moment everything starts spinning again. But after a blink they were gone again. The girl freezes and keeps staring at the dot where it happened. She never thought, she’d see it ever again and yet there it was. A flew dark feathers slowly falling in the air. Could this be happening? If it’s real, she should have noticed it earlier. Maybe her brain is playing games with her? But why would it? Maybe a concussion?
No, it’s not real! She thinks to herself and closes her eyes for a second. She has more important things to do and think about the ghosts of the past.
Following Bakugou‘s yelling, she finds All Might and her classmates quickly. The symbol of peace is rough up and covered in smoke, while Bakugou and the others are surrounded by villains. An image no one would forget this easily.“What the hell are you doing here, extra?!“ Bakugou screams, while kicking one of the villains towards her, so she can chain him down to the ground. A move that looks smooth and natural like they’ve done it a thousand times.“Don’t look at her!“ he reminds himself because he knows otherwise her sight would let him forget the world again. For the look on her face has enough power over him that he wouldn’t even notice how the villains are taking his body apart.
„You told me to kill that bastard and I’m not done yet!“ she murmurs to Bakugou with a choky smile, who’s still standing next to her and watching the scene. All Might took out the beast but he’s probably too weak to fight the two other freaks at once.
„You kiddos really don’t talk like heroes, huh?“ Y/N freezes as a red feather passes by her head into the black smoke that’s shielding Shigaraki. She turns around to see dozens of them flying around the air and attacking villains. She lowers her hands and turns her head to check if she might see him but only knowing he’s here makes it easier to breathe.
„That’s Hawks!“ Kirishima, standing nearby points at the man, who’s flying towards them. He lands a few feet away from them and Y/N could start crying out of relief. Hawks and most of the teachers from U.A have entered USJ. The villains take this as a signal to leave but most of them get captured.
„You did a great job, I’m proud of you, but now you have to get out. Some of you are injured and need a doctor.“ His voice is calm and professional. A gentle look lays on his face but he can’t bring himself to stop looking over at Y/N as she walks out, upheld by some of her classmates. He’s furious that these guys escaped but he also just wants to wrap his wings around Y/N until she forgets this day even happened.
Y/N doesn’t remember how she got to the hospital or how she talked to the police officers. Her body stopped producing adrenaline the moment they stepped outside and the spinning came back, which made her pass out a few times.
Hours have passed until she finally wakes up, covered in cold sweat and nausea, haunted by memories she buried long ago. She looks around and recognizes the hospital room. It’s dark, the digital clock in the wall reads 04:27 and there are three other beds in the room. Right next to her bed, on her left, stands a chair and Kanai’s sleeping in it. He’s still wearing his doctor’s coat and has crossed his arms, his head hanging to the side. She looks down on herself, to find a few bruises on her skin and a small red feather lying in her hand. Y/N takes a deep breath but starts coughing immediately due to the pain in her chest.
„Hey, hey, hey. It’s okay. Slowly.“ It takes Kanai barely a second to jump up and reach for a glass of water, causing Y/N to question if he was even asleep. Sometimes she wonders if it’s because he’s a doctor or just because of the years he spent with them.
„Better?“ he asks with a soft look in his eyes, as the girl calms down and leans back. Y/N nods, her head pounding, and looks over to the other bed. Someone is sleeping in them but she can’t see who and if they’re hurt or not.
,,Momo Yaoyoruzo, Mina Ashido and Ochako Uraraka. They are fine, just a few bruises. The rest of your class is also here. No one was seriously hurt but they demanded that you stay here overnight. Keigo was also here but had to go. He’ll probably visit tomorrow morning.“
Kanai might not have a quirk but sometimes Y/N thinks he has a sixth sense. As if he knows what someone is thinking or doing and whatever he does it’s always flawless. He’s kind and caring and loving. And this scares her sometimes. Not he in particular but how easy it is to get attached to him. How easily he lets you feel loved. He took her in, after only a few days of knowing each other, threatens her with respect and has done more for her than she could ever pay back. Y/N would like to think of him as her older brother -maybe even a father figure- but there is still this voice in her head. Counting all the things she did or didn’t do or said, that would make him leave. She has accepted the fact that he’s going to leave her -everyone will at some point- and now she just waits for the day to come and tries not to get too attached. Every day she waits. In and out. Until she has reached the limit that keeps her tolerable. Until they don’t want her around anymore and leave or even send her away.
„How are you feeling?“ he asks with a soft voice and takes her cold hand into his. He’s trying to smile but he isn’t as good as he thinks in hiding his emotions. The restless night and worries are consuming all his energy.
„Fine but my head hurts,“ she replies quietly and considers pulling her hand back but it would only make him worry or upset. Her mind runs faster the longer he holds her hand and when he finally lets go of her to stand up, she holds back a gasp. Her fingers twitch from the urge to scratch her skin until it bleeds.
Breathe in and out. In and out. Y/N counts her breaths, while Kanai gives her painkillers. “You should sleep again. I’ll come back in the morning to check on you. If you need anything, just call for me, Dove?“ He smiles at her and Y/N smiles back, trying not to suffocate and throw up at the same time. “Okay.“
Y/N doesn’t even wait a moment after he leaves the room and stumbles straight to the bathroom. Spending the next half an hour throwing up and crying in silence. It’s been years. Goddamn years and she still freaks out after a little incident. She cries out of frustration and the fact that she‘s crying makes her cry even harder. She has to be crazy, Y/N thinks. Her head surely is hurting. It took her so long to become “normal“ but right now she feels like everything she had accomplished slipped through her fingers. On good days she doesn’t even mind Sero putting his arm around her shoulder while they walk through the hallway or Momo‘s hugs but on bad days she can’t even stand Keigo’s hug. She spends the next 10 minutes scrubbing her skin with burning hot water until her arms are sensitive and red. Until her skin burns brighter than the memories.
Back in the hospital room she looks around, assuring she didn’t wake anyone up but they are still asleep - or at least acting like that. Y/N stops in front of her bed and stares at the red feather, not knowing what to expect from it. It lays on the white covers, illuminated by the moon light and glowing deep red. The girl keeps staring at it, waiting if it might turn black but she loses patience and quietly storms out of the room, maybe afraid too.

CHAPTER 2
Bakugou used to like the silence. It was better than the late night fights his parents had and the awkward dinners the next day, pretending everything was alright. After a while they stopped yelling and that’s when he realized that silence isn’t as wonderful as he thought. At least he knew that they cared for each other enough to scream. His mother still yells at him but only in curses and his father doesn’t even care enough to say something. Bakugou only knows the yelling, which is exhausting, and the silence, which makes him question everything. They’re both a curse. Midoriya Inko was yet the worst to happen for she was both. The hysterical cries and the suffocating silence that followed. She didn’t even insult him, yet her words are burned into his bones. The ringing in his ears as he stood in front of a door, not a single sound was audible in the corridor and Inko didn’t even say a word whenever she saw him. His house that used to be so loud and filled with voices, was a quiet hell filled with disgusted looks. This was by far the worst day of his young life but he has no right to complain for it was his fault. Even the day this green monster took over his body wasn’t as frightening as this one afternoon. He considered just giving in, letting this slime creature eat him alive and use his body - it was just a second until he saw the people screaming. They yelled at him but nothing came through and something clicked in him. If the whole world just yells at him, then he’ll do the same.
,,Hey, Taka-Chan.“
The boy blinks a few times in confusion and finally looks up from his phone, to meet the backside of a bus seat. It is Sero‘s voice that brought him back into the bus. His voice is quiet, trying not to disturb the others but somehow shrill.
,,Yeah?“
Bakugou doesn’t listen on purpose to their conversation, he just likes the sound of Y/N‘s voice better than the music he’s been listening to. It’s calm and soft, no matter what is happening. It irritates Bakugou whenever she’d talk to him in such a lovely tone for he doesn't know how to respond other than yelling. He noticed this on their first day. Y/N is always friendly and can talk to people but it’s never more than this. Her conversations are never more than smalltalk but no one ever notices that. He doesn’t know how she learned to distance herself without the others noticing it but it’s impressive. She has a way with words that even surprises him. Not only her words are impressive but also the way she fights and uses her quirk and that makes Bakugou furious. He has been training one-on-one combat and his quirk since he’s a child and yet he can’t move as quietly and fast as Y/N. Her movements are calculated, quick and hart. Sometimes he wonders if gravity even applies to her, for sometimes it looks like she’s flying while fighting. It’s not only Kendo or Judo but something more aggressive. He experienced her fighting style first hand a couple of days ago in their first exercise. He didn’t even stand a chance against her and she wasn’t struggling. She knew exactly where they were and how to take him down. “You are a terrible villain.“
He can still hear her voice in his head. She didn’t even mean it as a compliment, just a fact as if she has fought countless villains before him. The only time he actually fought a villain was last year and All Might had to save him, because he was so weak. First he failed fighting a villain and then he failed fighting a hero. Not even a real hero but some girl that pulls sticks out her body!
Stupid bones, he keeps thinking as they walk into USJ, eyes still glued to the back of her head. She might be a better fighter but she’s stupid and that gives Bakugou satisfaction. The fact that she barely passes exams and classes, struggling to keep up with the rest of the class. He’s better than her.
He’s smarter and stronger and faster and he’ll become the best hero Japan has ever seen and yet it is Y/N who has to snap him out of his stare as the villains appear. Bakugou is the strongest and most powerful, but the second this dark smoke came closer the fear took over his body and paralyzed him. Blocking every noise out, the same way that monster did it. He sees Aizawa yelling something towards Thirteen and his classmates talking, but his ears feel like they’re stuffed with cotton.
„Bakugou.“
He blinks a few times, realizing Y/N is standing in front of him grabbing his arm and pulling him away. Her voice is still calm, almost frightening and the look in her eyes reminds him of a doll. They’re still beautiful, he thinks to himself. Brown with a light grey edge as if the color is slowly fading away. Is it because of her quirk? He noticed a few days ago that her skin turns slightly grey whenever she uses it. The blond boy looks past her, trying to concentrate. Their classmates are running towards the exit, Thirteen is standing right behind them and Aizawa ran off toward the villains.
Think! You can’t run away, he thinks and keeps looking around. Following Aizawa would be the best decision. There are a few dozen villains and he could never take all of them. But Bakugou can. He’s strong enough to fight them. He’ll show them that he’s strong enough to fight them instead of running away.
„Bakugou!“ He hears Y/N call as he uses his explosions to jump towards the dark smoke, not noticing how she follows him with two spears in her hands. Bakugou won’t just stand there or run away. He’s better than Y/N or the rest of his classmates. He can win. He’ll beat every villain that entered USJ.
Bakugou lands on his feet, his ears ringing from the explosions and lungs filled with the smoke. An explosion of this magnitude, should have at least weakened them, but as the smoke slowly liftendes he realizes that he’s no longer with his class.
„You really are a madman.“ Bakugou turns around, his gauntlet lifted, to find Y/N standing behind him and once again he can’t prevent himself from admiring her. Her hair intact, weapons raised and a grin on her face that says she’s not afraid of anything. It makes him furious how good and put together she looks, while he can barely form a sentence in her presence. What is it about this girl that throws him off?
„What the fuck are you doing here?!“ he asks and lowers his hands, so he can look around. The boy noticed they’re in a building, similar to Ground Beta. The smoke villain must have teleported them into one of the buildings. He can still see the waterfall from the window, which means they’re still in USJ. The doors are closed but he can feel heavy footsteps coming closer.
„Not gonna let you have all the fun alone,“ she grins, while pulling out another bone from her hip. The skin on her thigh turns into a darker shade of grey and red veins appear around the spot, where a femur arises. The bone slowly starts forming into something that reminds him of a bō. She uses them the most he notices.
„Someone is coming,“ Bakugou murmurs quietly as the steps get closer. His eyes keep staring at the door on the other side of the room but he notices how Y/N swings the bō once and comes a step closer.
„You wanna run?“ she asks and he doesn’t have to look at her, to know she’s smirking. Knowing they’re in this together gives them no doubt they could beat them in an instant. Running away isn’t an option. It never will be.
„I’m going to show you how a pro fights,“ he says as the door opens and three men storm inside, surrounding them. Bakugou and Y/N stand close to each other, their shoulders almost touching. This is no competition and so they know the other has one‘s back.
„I’ll get the lanky one,“ she whispers to him and uses the fluster of his explosions to attack the man in front of her. She can feel the bones in his long limbs and the longer he stretches them, the easier it is to break them. With a quick jump she pinned him to the ground and broke the bones in his limbs, ignoring his screams.
It’s the first time that the two of them fight together and it’s striking how good they work together. Bakugou is loud, creates chaos with his attacks and Y/N takes this for her sneak attacks. The villains can barely keep track of her, forgetting about Bakugou until they look right into his palm. They’re the two strongest students and they’re fighting style balances each other out. Back on back with calculated moves and wicked smiles on their faces. Only a fool would dare to attack. They’re feeding each other with bloodlust adrenaline.
„You know, you really didn’t have to throw him out the window.“ Y/N leans out of the broken window and looks down at the villain, who’s trying to get up but one quick hand move and the remains of an old thorax rise from the earth to chain him down again.
„These weaklings fight like some wannabe villains. Where are the real ones,“ he murmurs angrily and looks around if more people might appear, ignoring her statement.
„Bakugou.“ The blond boy finally turns around as he notices the change in her voice. It’s calm and monotonous, in a way that freaks him out. Y/N is still standing at the broken window staring at something. He lets out a little huff and walks towards her, until he can see it too.
Exactly where the villains appeared. The weird man with the hands is standing next to some beasts and there, on the ground, is Aizawa. His blood soaked body is held down by the beast.
„We have to help him!“ Y/N looks at him and for a second he can see the fear in her eyes before they turn into cold stones again. Bakugou can’t deny that he’s also worried about their teacher but he read enough articles about him, to know that Eraserhead is strong.
„We have to destroy that smoky basdart first, so they can’t escape. They have to pay for this.“
„Thirteen and the others can take care of him! We have to fight this beast! If he did this to Aizawa, do you really think our classmates can help him!? They came here for All Might!“ Y/N knows that she should have more faith in her friends and teachers, but faith never brought her anything.
„Shut up!“ Bakugou has a short temper and it’s even shorter when she’s around, but he can’t deny that she’s right. In all of their rankings, were they on the top so it would be logical to fight the smoke villain and the monster. Yet the idea of splitting up doesn’t sit right with him. Stop that! He scolds himself quickly. He works alone best and Y/N isn’t a child that needs protection.
„I’ll take care of the basdart and you take the beast.“ He finally decides with a calm voice and takes off his gauntlet, so he can move freely. Y/N nods agreeing, whereupon he grabs her by the waist and uses his quirk to blast them out of the window. The closer they get, the worse it looks. Aizawa is lying in a pool of blood, probably his own he thinks, and it doesn’t look like someone‘s gonna rush to help him. He can’t blame them though and then he realizes that Y/N, just like himself, is probably a little bit reckless and even crazy. The thought of her being just as insane makes his lips twitch upwards.
„I’ll let go now,“ he says and can feel how Y/N nods, slowly letting go of him and adjusting her hands.
One good shot at the man with the hands could give her an advantage, to take him down. There are certainly bones buried deep down and she could pin him down. The beast doesn’t have a skull but Y/N is sure she can find something to crush.
Y/N tries to concentrate and aim at the villain but the only thing she can think about is Bakugou and his arm around her. The fact that he holds her so close and tight she can barely move makes her panic like some wild animal. He grabbed her so quickly and close to him, it made her head spin for a moment until she remembered who he is. Yet she wants to rip his arm away and get as much distance between her and his body as possible.
„You better kill that bastard,“ he says and let’s go of her, but Y/N can still feel his breath on her shoulder and it makes her nauseous. The warmth spreading like venom in her body, making it itch and burn.
Concentrate! She scolds herself and points with her hand towards the man, but her poorly improvised bō shuriken misses him by a centimeter and lands on the floor.
Y/N lands on the ground with a clumsy roll and takes a deep breath. Her head finally cleared up. She feels the remains beneath the ground and pulls them towards her. The spine of a cow and a flew ribs, some still wrapped in rotten flesh, are still intact. A flew random teeth and…Y/N looks up in disbelief but as her eyes fall on the man she knows her quirk isn’t wrong. It never is. At least 10 hands right in front of her, wrapped around his body. The girl hesitates and looks around. She spots Tsu, Mineta and two villains on the boat, too far away to notice something, but besides them it’s only her and Aizawa, who doesn’t look like he’s conscious. Y/N rises the spine and stands up, with the bone kurasi fundo in her hand. The rotting teeth lay next to her, waiting to be used as bullets, but they probably won’t be any help considering the fact they came to USJ to kill All Might.
„Looks like you got some help, Eraserhead,“ says the man with a smoky voice, as he comes closer towards Y/N.

CHAPTER 01
Flying itself never bothered Y/N, it was always a freeing feeling to see the world beneath one's feet and feel the air on her body, this however is different from the other times Keigo took her for a flight. They are about 50 feet in the air, beneath them the city and streets. It is a pretty nice view and Y/N would enjoy it, if she wasn’t hanging in the air and trying not to let go of her bag or Keigo, while he tries to break his speed record. It’s the first time since months, maybe even years, that he flys her somewhere. Now that he’s a famous pro hero, people would recognize them and he never intended to put Y/N under the blinding lights of the press. At least that’s what he says. Y/N thinks she just became too heavy and tall for him, too fly her around like he used to when she was a child. She doesn’t mind it particularly because it only shows that she’s getting stronger but some nights she misses their little trips around the city.
„Hawks! Hawks, I’m gonna fall! Slow down!“ she yells, panicking and trying not to glimpse his grip as he takes a sharp turn right, almost crushing her into a building. The man above her only laughs and starts flying downwards for a landing. They land on an empty parking lot near U.A High and Y/N tries not to fall, while catching a breath. Maybe she doesn’t miss flying that much, she thinks to herself and watches him stretch his arms before turning her head back to the ground. The more she trains her quirk the safer she feels walking on the earth, knowing there is always something beneath her feet.
„You used to like flying,“ he says in an amused tone and even though she can’t see his face, she can hear his smile. Keigo is still smiling and he doesn’t even try to hide it. Just because he doesn’t like her plans for the future, doesn’t mean he isn’t proud of her and what she has accomplished. His chest could explode by the thought of his little Dove growing up and taking matter into her own hands. The man has to hold himself back not to pull her into a big hug.
„Not like this,“ she replies and takes the bag he's holding for her. The girl straightens her uniform, loosening the tie, so she could breathe freely and brushing her brown curls. “How do I look?“ she asks with a worried look on her face. Now that she’s only a few streets from U.A, the anxiety starts creeping up. It’s normal to be a bit excited or even nervous, it’s a new chapter in her life after all, Keigo told her but somewhere deep inside she’s still afraid everyone could see straight through her.
„Like a wingless chicken and now say UA,“ he grins and pulls out his phone to take a picture. His attempt to light up her mood fails but Y/N doesn’t have the heart to show it.“You should probably go. You don’t wanna be late on your first day, eh?“
„Right,“ she says but doesn’t move a bit. Y/N is still nervous and even a little afraid. What if no one will like her? What if the teachers recognize her? U.A is the best school in Japan, Y/N could fail and - no! Failure is something she doesn’t even dare to think about. She’s powerful enough to beat them all, even Todoroki and Yaoyozoru or whoever thinks they’re better. Y/N has formed herself into something powerful with tears and bones and she’d rather do it all over again than to look back.
„Dove, everything will be fine. You’ll do great.“ After the years they have spent together, Keigo can see past her mask whenever she’s nervous or uncomfortable and even how to calm her down. He lets one of his feathers fly in front of her nose, which let’s her crack a smile.“Let’s go.“
Keigo escorts her until they’re only a couple of streets away from the facilities. That’s where their ways part and Y/N walks alone towards the gates. Her mind is trying to find something she can think about other than all the things that could go wrong and so she just stares at the cherry blossoms. They have been her favorite thing about this world she entered years ago.
Being late has its advantages, Y/N notes and tries to calm herself down. There are barely any people in the hallways and she doesn’t have to choose a seat because there is only one left anyway. Just stay positive and calm, she reminds herself. Right behind a blond boy, who seems in a bad mood is the last free table. Y/N takes a seat and looks around the classroom. Only one door but the windows can be opened and the classroom is located on the second floor. 20 students, 7 girls and 13 boys. She recognizes Todoroki, who’s sitting in the back and Iida, sitting in the front. The pink girl and the yellow haired boy seem friendly and Y/N decides to talk to them later. If she survived this far she can surely make some friends, right? It was Keigo who taught her how to be charming and friendly, after all.
„Hey, I’m Sero Hanta,“ says the boy next to her, as he notices her looks, and offers her his hand, which she accepts with a smile. The boy has a bright smile on his lips and pitch black hair. His elbows look somehow weird but Y/N can’t see what they are.
„Takami Y/N, nice to meet you.“
It turns out that Sero is actually pretty nice and funny, she notes. He likes old action movies and sweets. Listens to music she doesn’t really know and taps with his foot. His open type and bright smile reminds her of Keigo. They keep talking until the bell rings and someone rolls in the classroom. A man with long black hair and a weirdly long scarf. Y/N doesn’t know him but Sero recognized him immediately. The underground hero Eraserhead or rather Aizawa Shouta.
„You know, Aizaw Sensei can erase someone’s quirk with his eyes! So cool right! What is actually your quirk? I can shoot tape from my elbows, how about you!“ Sero also talks a lot, Y/N realizes as the class gathers outside after changing into their gym clothes and he immediately ran towards her to keep chatting. The girl is a bit surprised that he came back to her, to talk and how friendly everyone seems. Y/N was the last girl to come out of the cabins, still a little anxious that someone might see her change, but as she finally came out she found Momo waiting for her so she wouldn’t be alone.
,,I can control bones that are in the ground and recreate my own,“ Y/N explains and smiles nervously. Her quirk might sound creepy to some and isn’t quite flashy. Pulling out bones of dead people or animals is not really a quirk of a hero, little girls look up to. It’s rather a quirk to cause harm but Y/N swallows the thoughts and memories.
„Does that mean you can create an army of skeletons?“ asks the blond boy from earlier and looks at her with big eyes. He’s standing right next to Sero and another boy with spiky red hair. They don’t seem disgusted by her, letting her relax a bit until the little voice she choked so many times to death murmurs a „not yet“ into her ear.
„You can talk about your quirks later.”
They all turn around and fall silent as Aiwawa Sensei appears behind them, his look as tired and bored as always. His voice is monotone but it somehow calms Y/N down and it’s not exhausting to listen, unlike many other people she met in life.
Y/N likes their first exercise. She worked hard on her abilities and now she can show off her quirk in a good way. Show them that she’s more than the things that they used to say. More than a murderer they want her to be.
„How far can you throw a ball?“ Sero asks as they watch the angry blond boy, whose name apparently Bakugou is, throw one of the baseballs over 705 meters. He doesn’t seem proud or happy about his score, only annoyed as if the whole exercise is just a waste of his time. This alone wouldn’t bother Y/N but it’s the way he looks at her when she answers.“Maybe 500 meters?“ He gives her a look that almost screams she’s too weak to even be in this class. Like she’s the one wasting everyone’s time. It makes her blood boil in a way she hasn’t felt in a long time. She won’t justify to an arrogant boy why she’s here. He's no one, yet she has to say something.
„Congratulations, you can throw a ball. Go play fetch with a dog.“ she murmurs to him and watches how his face turns from scorn into angry, giving her satisfaction.
„At least I can use my quirk useful. What do you want to do with your bones? Use them as chopsticks?“
Y/N has to admit, it’s not the best idea to start a fight on their first day but something about him makes her fingers twitch. She also doesn’t realize that he listend to them earlier, all she wants, in that moment, is to wipe away this stupid look on his face. The stupid boy seems to see through every facade she put up and hit her right where it hurts. First he thinks she’s taking up space and now she’s useless! “Breaking the bones in your body seems useful to me.“ Y/N regrets the words as soon as they fall off her tongue. This is exactly what she didn’t want, them to think she’s a thread.
„Takami! Bakugou!“
Both of them step away from each other and turn to Aizawa, who’s standing right behind them. The look on his face is terrifying and covers even the fact that most of the other students were watching them too.“I really don’t care if you hate each other but if you disturb my class one more time, I’ll expel you immediately.“ He doesn’t even bother to wait for their apology, not that Bakugou wanted to apologize anyway, and starts walking towards some other sports equipment.
„Can you really do it? Break someone's bones?“ Sero is still next to her, whispering while the man explains their next exercise. He doesn’t seem scared but rather surprised and Y/N wonders if he’s just hiding his fear.
,,No,“ Y/N answers with a low voice and notices how the boy next to her loses tension. She can only hope, her classmates won’t be afraid she might be a threat.
Y/N and Bakugou don’t talk for the rest of the day but that doesn’t stop them from comparing in every way possible. Bakugou would look provocative at her, whenever he scores higher than her and Y/N can’t hide her wicked smile whenever she gets a better score than him. He doesn’t even want to be better than the rest of the class, only better than her.
The classes ended quicker than Y/N thought and even though Aizawa Sensei told them he'd expel the student with the least points, no one was sent home.
By the time she steps out of the facility and checks her messages, Hawks and Kanai have already spammed her phone.

It takes Y/N about 2 hours to get home and thanks to Sero the train ride is just half as boring and long. He keeps telling her about the comics and mangas he reads and Y/N has to promise him to pick up at least one. By the time she enters the apartment, the whole area smells delicious and she can hear Keigo and Kanai talking. They end their bickering as she enters the kitchen to find the two men cooking. Well Kanai is cooking, while Keigo just sits at the breakfast bar and plays with one of his feathers.
„There she is! The next pro hero in its glory!“ The man with the red wings jumps off the barstool and walks towards her, to give her a welcoming hug. Y/N can feel her muscles relax as she puts her arms around him and inhales the cologne they gifted him last Christmas.
„Tell us everything! Who’s your teacher? Did you find any friends? How was-“ Keigo is being interrupted by Kanai, who hits him with a wooden spoon on the hand.
„Let the girl breathe, you chicken!“
Y/N takes the opportunity and sneaks into her room, to catch a breath. Her hand clungs around the door handle, as she closed the door and let the room fall silent. She catches herself staring at the mirror on the other side of the room. Her cheeks are glowing red from the cold air and her brown eyes have a happy shine in them. She looks strong, healthy and even happy. There is no visible evidence of the past. Y/N can no longer hold back a smile as the realization hits her. She’s a U.A student! A real student who goes to classes and eats lunch with their friends! She is becoming a hero, has potential friends, a home and even people she can call family. Her smile quickly turns into silly giggling. She has never been this happy.
