Yes, I'll admit, Netflix turned me onto a popular bandwagon. The Cecil Hotel. The mysteries built into the structure and mixed into the mortar has me fascinated. This may be a silly question, but I'm curious. The sign painted on the side of it....there are some spaces in front of the word 'DAILY'...it looks to me like there were letters there and someone tried to cover them over. Any ideas what it is? Or any other interesting facts/stories about the hotel?

Misha Collins is a wonderful, wonderful man. And on his 45th birthday, here's a short compilation of some of the most iconic things he's ever said because the rest of y'all have got the fanfic/fanart gig completely nailed so proud because he has truly inspired me and so many others and is literally the best.
Be Kind to yourself, so you can be Happy enough to be Kind to others.

I've always had a fascination with hugging (I'm not really particular about who or what it is I'm embracing as long as there's a “squish” factor).

If fandom were a kingdom I would be the queen. Because in chess, the queen is the most powerful piece and because there's several photos of me circulating in drag.
What an iconic man. All my love, and appreciation. Proud to call you OVERLORD!

I love the Disney movie Emperor’s New Groove, but the story of how that movie came to be is rather wild. You’ve probably noticed it’s quite different than most Disney films—in fact it’s almost nothing like the original story Disney set out to create, which was originally called Kingdom of the Sun.
Kingdom of the Sun was meant to be a musical movie in the same vein as Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, etc. The entire story was written out, storyboarded, cast, even actors had recorded their lines. Whole musical numbers had been written, and 20% of the animation was done. A whole documentary was made on the process, which Disney has since banned (but you can watch it on YouTube if you search “The Sweatbox”).
The original story starred Pacha (who looked like Kuzco), voiced by Owen Wilson, who meets Emperor Manco and switches places with him (think the Prince and the Pauper, loosely) while an evil sorceress, Yzma, plans to block out the sun with her minions. It included a romantic line, where Pacha fell in love with Manco’s fiancé, and Yzma does turn Manco into a llama, and he works with a female llama herder to get home. It was based on Inca culture and magic. At the end, Pacha saves the kingdom by lassoing the sun.
If you watch the documentary (I haven’t watched all of it yet), you can hear and see how excited the creators are and how hard they are working. One character designer talks about how excited he is to work on a female villain for the first time. Others rejoice over actors saying lines in just the right way.
And then the film got canned. Basically. I’m sure that really sucked. Bad.
Scraps of it were reworked into Emperor’s New Groove. Almost all the characters were thrown out or remade (but we got Kronk in exchange!), there was only one musical number. Maybe Kingdom of the Sun would have been amazing. Or maybe not. We’ll never know. But I know we got Emperor’s New Groove out of it and I don’t know anyone who has watched that movie and hates it.
Creating anything truly worthwhile is hard and it sucks sometimes. In our own personal stories, we all have our “Darkness of the Soul” scenes. Maybe you have something largely done and it gets canned. But that doesn’t mean it was all a waste.
Pull out the llama, or rework the plot, completely change the tone, put in your shoulder angel (or devil). If they can do it, so can you. Someone, somewhere is going to create something great—why not you?

Because this is awesome, and much needed!
A reminder to writers:
You aren’t annoying for wanting to talk about your work.
Your characters aren’t weird or boring. You created them. They’re perfect.
Being unpublished doesn’t mean you aren’t a writer.
If you takes you 5 years to write a book, you aren’t any less of a writer than someone who took a year and finished.
You can have a life outside of writing. You aren’t cheating on your characters.
Writing can consume your life, and that’s great. If you love it, you love it. Let it define you. It’s amazing.
You don’t have to write a certain genre to be a “good” writer. Just write.
Your work isn’t “bad” because it’s full of cliches. Cliches are popular for a reason. People love them when they’re well-written.
You’re talented.

Reblog if you still write longhand
at any point in your writing process. That includes freewriting, first drafts, notes, outlines… anything. Just wondering how many people out there are still putting pen to paper. :)
