In light of recent revelations

here we go with the naruhina/ichihime high school au @strawberry-lover @w-walker-troper @commanderkurama @readingbennie and idk who else might be interested in this *hides*

this is a bit late but, umm, you see… it’s a bit longer than expected…

my personal headcanon is this: naruto and orihime are friends in middle school before they enter high school, same goes for ichigo and hinata

because??? you’ll see the pros of this scenario a bit later, but you totally have to hear out the prequel beforehand heh

i guess they went to different middle schools in the city but then all ended up going to the same high school or whatever

naruto and orihime met each other shortly after starting middle school—big surprise—thanks to their love for food lmaooo

so naruto just sat down in his favorite ramen restaurant when he was idk how many years old and he’s loudly ordering his usual and there comes orihime who’s trying out all sorts of restaurant and meals because she’s, well, orihime

and they end up sitting almost next to each other but with a free seat between each other, okay? okay

so naruto and orihime are not talking at first, just enjoying their meals (naruto always gets his usual while orihime tries out a new meal every time) but then, suddenly (!), orihime orders the type of ramen that naruto always orders! and she loves it

okay okay OKAY and THAT is the moment when she starts swooning, saying she hasn’t eaten ramen better than this, and naruto will be like, ~*instant friendship*~

so they start hanging out at school, during lunch or whatever, eat ramen at the restaurant and try out cooking themselves maybe?

they’d both enjoy that the other is as weird as them tbh

so this is all good BUT? what about ichigo and hinata? i’m glad you asked

like tbh i headcanon hinata to be a fierce princess

read: she has taken karate classes or something like this since she was a lil girl so she’s like Strong™

and this means? you guessed it. she’ll totally be injured and her father will go to a doctor sometimes, you know, because you gotta make sure that hinata is alright and stuff

AND WHO IS A DOCTOR?? oohh boiiii, here comes isshin and his family

on a side note, let’s pretend that masaki is alive and well because why the fuck not?

everything is fluffy and vanilla in this NaruHina/IchiHime AU

ichigo is a cute lil muffin but he’s also a teenager so like every boy his age, he’ll be a bit grumpy about helping his old man in the clinic and stuff but just one look from his mommy and he does it with a fake smile LMAO

so hinata sprained her ankle or whatever and it’s really not that bad

isshin tells ichigo to take care of it, clapping him on his back too hard because he totally wants ichigo to “””be a man”””

ichigo is super defensive bc of past experiences with bullies but nah, hinata is an angel like always and she smiles at him and isn’t scared or anything even though his scowl is (according to his classmates) the worst lmao poor baby

and yah, they simply talk, and ichigo, because he sometimes gets into fights, kinda starts giving hinata advice on how to use her arms and stuff while fighting w/o getting injured again; lololol

and—surprise!!—same school, just different class, which means they also become close friends

ok, this was the prequel and now let’s come to the real high school au part. it’s still very… plot-ish? idk why. just go with the flow i guess.

naruto and orihime will be in the same class, ichigo and hinata in another when they go to high school BECAUSE OTHERWISE it’d be too easy to be lovey-dovey, you feel me?

so. imagine. all of them. having some sort of “crush-at-first-sight” moment

naruto maybe while he enters the school ground? hinata is standing with ichigo, laughing about something, but naruto is like, omg a real angel

ichigo will truly notice orihime when she’s chatting with hinata in the hallways (they’re bonding bc they’re both cute idk what else to tell u), he greets hinata and then ichihime will make eye-contact and ichigo is like, oh… oh. cute

but then orihime says something funny/weird lmao and destroys the mood

which is ok!!! because ichigo is like, smiling in that amused ichigo way and it’s a short moment before class starts but it’s significant

one day later orihime totally gets ogled by some horny boys and ichigo is like there, glaring everybody away with his dark aura LMAOOO and she’ll be like, god i need to protect him, he’s so cute

(she literally doesn’t fuckin see anything dark about his glares, to her he just looks like a cute lil bean who’s actually a big softies (which he is, mind you))

OKAY but now to hinata’s moment. like just give naruto some sort of speech because idk, maybe someone tried to bully someone else and nardo is definitely using his speech no jutsu

hinata will go to him after the rest has left, and she’ll thank him for helping a classmate, with a brilliant smile on her face but then, ooohhh then, naruto is directly looking at her with his CERULEAN EYES (i had to) and she’s like, *clutches heart* oh no

naruto will be the same but tries to play it cool but he’ll fail miserable and they’ll both be stuttering, blushing idiots around each other and the bell ringing literally saves the last bit of pride they have haha

okay so NaruHina and IchiHime Mutual Pining™ is established

now you might ask: “oh. is this all you have? “

now come the headcanons *cracks fingers*

ichigo and hinata not talking about their crushes but both know that the other has a big fucking crush while they think that they’re totally not obvious themselves (which is not the truth, the whole class knows it lol)

naruto and orihime definitely talking about it because it’s fun lmao. they’re both just too fucking obvious and at least they accept the Sweet Embrace Of Embarrassment asdfgh; they’ll both eat ice cream while weeping at home bc ichigo and hinata are too perfect

naruto and ichigo both joining the soccer club?? or some other sports club at school? idc but it’s important that the girls see them wiping away sweat with the hem of their shirts so they can get a glimpse of their abs tbh

(i’m shameless and i’m ok with it)

like—bonding moments between hinata and orihime when they cheer on the boys and just them being cute friends altogether

naruto being the loudest when hinata is fighting in a tournament!

naruto and ichigo being #Bromancerivals, i.e., they are totally trying to be better than the other in whatever way possible but they also just really like each other, they definitely fist-bump and high-five a lot

and i fucking live for the angst so let’s say that all four of them assumed that they had zero chance because of their crush’s best friend

like, naruto thinks he has no chance with hinata because she might like ichigo, ichigo thinks he has no chance with orihime because she might like naruto—same problem with the girls

but nah. everything will clear up after the boys wrestle with each other out of anger and frustration just to realize that there is not reason to feel that way (the girls just talk like normal human beings lmao)

writing notes or doodling funny drawing? because this is totally a student thing to do. they’ll put them in each other’s lockers

all four of them hanging out during lunch and just being friends and doing things outside of school, like going shopping, eating ramen, going on a trip and other cute shit

ichigo and naruto totally trying to annoy each other or playing pranks on each other or meeting each other casually at detention (bc of the pranking), “oh, you’re here again, too?” then they high-five

hinata and orihime cooking together and studying together and just being fucking amazing in everything they do

ok but like, naruto would totally say that “they all gotta meet up to eat ramen” but “””suddenly””” he and hinata don’t have time so ichigo and orihime are all alone ahahaha

naruhina talking about how fucking obvious and perfect ichihime is

so they like, all of them complain how the other couple isn’t getting their godfucking shit together already! but nobody does anything!!!

orihime will bring ichigo food and her notes from class, saying it’s a thank for him walking her home sometimes

The Ointment™ that hinata will definitely put on naruto’s lil injuries and he’ll just stare at her with love in his eyes and he’ll choke out a “thank you” while trying not to confess then and there

ichigo will totally let orihime sit on his desk but NOBODY ELSE FUCKING DARE SIT ON IT

hinata will always be there to cheer up naruto when he has a match and he’ll totally be there for all her matches

also naruto will definitely look at her first whenever he’s able to score a goal for his team because “is hinata watching?? omg she is watching!”

all four of them dropping hints all the time that this pining is unnecessary because, yes, she/he likes you back! just confess already!

all four of them spending time at each other’s houses and getting to know their families and eating dinner together and just hanging out like friends and all of them celebrating birthdays together

feeding each other. totally “”platonic”” of course

ummm?? p.e. lessons!? where the boys can’t take their eyes off the girls who just looks so fucking gorgeous with their ponytails and their shorts and their EVERYTHING?

the girls, on the other hand, just want to touch those biceps and thighs to see how smooth and wam the skin is (maybe i’m projecting here)

also what about someone getting lightly injured? you know this ends with someone being carried to the infirmary and you can choose who carries who bridal-style because ALL POSSIBLE OPTIONS are GLORIOUS

the parents. oh my god, the parents. even they are fed up with the mutual pining shit but i love it so much, i’d let them suffer through it for an entire school year minimum *cackles evilly*

okay but then

listen, my dude, then something is slowly… changing

it’s slow at first but like after a year or so, it just starts to feel… natural

naruhina and ichihime end up spending more time together, not as a group but just the two “still-not-couples” couples

they share secrets and they just have this special type of understanding for each other’s worries and feelings and it just all fits perfectly?

it’ll be subtle changes

the blushing and stuttering and light awkwardness will slowly fade so there will be time for other things

fond looks, bodies always being closer than normal for some reason, hands lightly brushing when they walk next to each other, hands brushing away a strand of hair, eye-contact being broken to look at a pair of lips, soft smiles and laughs that are light and happy

naruhina and ichihime hugging for the first time? like a real, lingering hug while they’re somewhere more private where nobody can see them? they’ll go to bed with the biggest, dorkiest smile on their faces (and they’ll squeal into their pillows. yes, ichigo as well! even tho he’d never admit it)

hand-holding? actual fuckin hand-holding? this is like—amazing but imagine these idiots holding hands in the hallways of high school! for the first time

THE FIRST KISS. god, idk where to start. so many options! do they kiss on the school’s rooftop? when they’re at home? when they’re in their room while studying? after an important match in front of everyone? in the classroom after everybody else left? i can’t decide because everything sound great

just—i could go on for hours and hours tbh but i think the quintessence of all this is that NaruHina and IchiHime are fucking perfect and an AU that includes both ships is so bright and beautiful that it blinds you like The Sun

Could you explain how the spoilers are bad for Sarada? I'm a little lost here

Because they show Sarada in the terrible light shes always been in but never been called out on it until now which was long overdue tbh but it needed to be said, just since now there's finally a light being shined on it, there's no ignoring it anymore, so now its not just the fandom saying it but its an actual canon conflict being addressed now, not just ppl speculating that's the case, it IS the case 100% now and its a terrible look for Sarada.

As for how well just look at how it all played out and see it through Sumire's pov, not the readers.

Sumire asked Sarada how she felt about Boruto FIRST to see how she felt and Sarada told her point blank with no hesitation or sign of lying that no she isn't interested and it doesn't bother her if other girls like him.

Keyword to remember:

It doesnt bother her if other girls like him

This is what leads Sumire to feel comfortable admitting her feelings to her, because Sarada said she isn't bothered, so Sumire tells her that she does like him and that it DOES bother her, much to Sarada's surprise but at no point does Sarada ever backtrack on her statement, leaving Sumire to believe that everything she said is true, that she doesn't like Boruto and doesn't mind if other girls like him, so Sumire feels comfortable to pursue a romance with Boruto without stepping on Sarada's toes.

In this moment Sumire is considering Sarada's feelings first, she easily could've pursued Boruto without ever asking Sarada how she felt, she doesn't own Boruto, he's not an object she called dibs on, so Sumire had no obligation to approach Sarada for 'permission' but she did, because she didn't wanna go behind her friends back going after somebody her friend liked, she wanted to know how Sarada felt first before saying anything about her own feelings, this is important considering what happens later in the timeskip that not enough ppl consider.

I get how on the surface this looks pretty petty, that's her childhood friend shes been worried about for 3 years so an emotional hug in relief isn't really anything to be mad over, but again, you gotta look at it from SUMIRE'S pov to understand how fked up this looks to her.

First you have to look at what Sumire says to Sarada, because she doesn't only talk about the hug, that's just one of many examples of Sarada not giving any thought to anyone else's feelings, that's just the example she chose to use here.

This is before she mentions the hug, Sumire is spot on in everything she says here because Sarada, even tho well intended, is being not only stupid but also extremely selfish here and the ppl trying to argue that it isn't are both delusional and in denial, especially the ones using Hinata to prove the point when Hinata herself literally says shes being SELFISH in what shes doing.

And what happened because of Hinata's selfishness? how did it affect Naruto?

Yeah, Naruto had a complete and total mental breakdown, he was in pain, suffering in agony, so much so he nearly gave into Kurama which would've killed him if he unsealed him that only by the grace of Minato thinking 16 years ahead was that prevented, otherwise Hinata doomed him to an early death by making him lose control like that with her selfishness.

Thats not a jab at Hinata btw, Naruto has been equally selfish and inconsiderate regarding Sasuke and others too at times, its only human, nobody is 100% unselfish and unflawed ALL the time that's just basic human nature, so there's nothing wrong with pointing out Hinata was selfish here just like there's nothing wrong to point out Sarada is too, it doesn't make them bad ppl, It just makes them human.

This is exactly what Sumire was talking about when she told Sarada to actually THINK for a moment, because for the past 3 years she hasn't thought about a got danm thing and it shows and this was just the final tipping point for Sumire because of what just happened recently, you'd think Sarada would've learned her lesson, wised up, realized the position shes in but no, instead she stupidly asks Ada where Boruto is so they could go chase after him, AFTER LITERALLY ALL THIS JUST HAPPENED

All this JUST HAPPENED and she has the AUDACITY to ask where Boruto is to try and chase after him, THAT was the tipping point for Sumire because this is not the first time Sarada was this annoyingly careless and even after getting humbled STILL repeated the same mistakes and Sumire is understandably fed up with it and calling her out, it was long overdue.

Why does Sarada need to know where Boruto is? what does she plan to do? go after him and then what? help fight the enemies that 1 v everybody like nothing? the same enemy that almost ate her alive? the one Boruto had to save her ass from? and will have to save her ass again?

Sumire is absolutely right, Boruto only struggled and got hurt because THEY were there and he had to keep in mind THEIR presence the entire time, if it was Boruto alone he might could've handled Hidari solo since he clearly doesn't have total mastery over Sasuke's arsenal yet, and he only got sniped because Kawaki stopped him to justifiably question wtf is going on, but again, these things wouldn't have happened if THEY weren't involved, he'd have defeated Hidari and dipped before Jura got a clean shot.

So Sumire is absolutely right, they are, at least currently, a liability to Boruto, they are just in his way, a distraction, as much as they might WANT to help they simply cant, they don't have the power or the means to help him in the way KK and Kawaki can, but that doesn't mean Sarada and Sumire cant help AT ALL in OTHER ways, they just cant help him fight those enemies like Sarada is stupidly suggesting after literally just getting bodied by said enemies and needing saving.

The fact that she is so unselfaware is also highly annoying because she thinks Boruto cant handle these enemies on his own despite him literally saving Hima AND her back to back with seconds to spare and then hard carrying everybody the entire fight and yet STILL had to make time to save Sarada in between charging up Uzuhiko, which he couldn't even do to completion because they couldn't even buy him enough time to so he just went with what he had, which ended up only blowing him in half that only by the grace of Kawaki appearing when he did was Hidari finished off before he healed himself.

This is whats frustrating about Sarada, because even with all this happening right in front of her eyes she still cant take a hint, she still lacks self awareness, something she lacked 3 years ago and still does now, she hasn't developed ONE BIT from then to now.

Even if her running after him is understandable Im not saying it isn't, but she doesn't ever think before she acts, her intent is to help yet she has 0 plan for how, like for example Hinata jumping in to help Naruto, how did she help him? despite knowing she was outmatched, she fought him, lost, but she did throw hands at him to buy Naruto even just a little more time

What did Sarada plan to do? absolutely nothing, she shot a fireball that Kawaki absorbed and then just stood there with a kunai ready while Kawaki approached her and slashed at her, she didn't even activate her Sharingan or get into a fighting stance, she was literally weak kneed and nervous and just waited to be attacked, needing to be saved by the very person SHE went there to save, costing him his eye, and she does ZERO reflection.

You'd think after that type of fumble she'd know better and DO better now but she doesn't, she does the EXACT same thing she did then, she is stupidly trying to run to 'help' Boruto with no danm game plan, even after just being humbled by these enemies she stupidly thinks Boruto actually needs their help despite them being in his way the entire time and holding him back.

Anyway I made my point there so lets move on but its important to why Sumire is getting fed up with her, because it doesn't take rocket science to put together that Boruto left with both his eyes but only lost one after Sarada went to go 'help' him, or hell I wouldn't be surprised if Sarada told her, either way its safe to assume Sumire knows this which is partially why shes irritated with Sarada's lack of self awareness.

First Boruto lost his eye because of her, then Boruto gets badly wounded trying to protect her and everyone else there, now she hears Ada saying Boruto is deliberately avoiding them to not get them involved as much as possible and Sarada stupidly asks for his location completely ignoring the elephant in the room, disregarding Borutos feelings and what just happened entirely because of what SHE wants and Sumire understandably had enough.

So moving on from Saradas lack of self awareness and selfishness, lets move onto what she says about the hug and why its also justified from Sumire's pov.

As a viewer this seems petty but again, you have to see this from Sumire's pov, as I mentioned 3 years ago, all the way back in chapter 19, Sumire approached Sarada FIRST before ever acting on her feelings to see how SHE felt about Boruto first before saying how she felt herself and Sarada told her she had no interest in him and that it doesn't bother her if other girls like him, so in Sumire's eyes she doesn't have to feel awkward about liking Boruto, that she can tell Sarada without causing any hard feelings in their friendship, Sarada GAVE HER that impression.

Sumire gave her the chance to come clean about how she feels, she asked her point blank and Sarada said NO, making Ssumire feel completely comfortable in confessing how she felt and pursuing him.

So for Sarada to give Sumire that impression, then after that run after Boruto as some grand proof of love [doesn't have to be romantic, after all Naruto and Sasuke risked their lives for each other out of love too] only to cost Boruto his eye, then when the whole world turned against Boruto she completely folded under pressure leaving Sumire to pick up all the pieces and holding HER together which is the ONLY reason she even thought of begging Sasuke for help, otherwise she would've left Boruto to die if not for Sumire saying their the only ones who could help him.

After Sasuke goes to save Boruto, we see Sumire by Saradas side supporting her, and before Boruto leaves he asks Ada to thank Sarada for sending Sasuke his way, having NO idea that it was actually Sumire who helped make that happen, nor that shes also unaffected and on his side as well.

3 years later and Sarada hasnt changed at all, all shes done is yap and lose her temper at Shikamaru consistently for 3 yrs straight and then complain to Sumire about it afterwards, she says 'again' implying this is a repeated occurrence that she whines to Sumire about afterwards everytime.

I want you to put yourself in Sumire's shoes, imagine your friend, the only other person you have to count on during this hard time just constantly fumbling, and not just fumbling, but also screwin up in ways that hurts the guy you like as well, but you still try to be a good friend and support her and just bite your tongue to preserve the friendship cuz you don't wanna come off mean or insensitive to their struggles despite you struggling as well and nobodies considering that.

Sumire tolerated Sarada's complete and total lack of consideration for her and how she felt and how shes struggling for 3 whole years, all the while constantly putting up with Sarada's complaining, her outbursts, her reckless behavior, shes remained calm and compassionate through it all because their all they've got to depend on now due to omnipotence, so you would think Sarada would consider Sumire but she DOESNT, instead it is always SUMIRE considering HER but she never receives that in return.

This is why the hug may sound petty on the surface, but that is just one example of a much larger problem.

Like Sumire says, she understands why Sarada acted the way she did, but when she asks did she ever consider how SHE felt, even tho its in reference to the hug, her question applies to everything

When Sarada hugged Boruto infront of her like that, knowing how she felt about him, knowing how worried she was about him too, knowing how relieved she'd be seeing Boruto alive and well too, did those thoughts ever cross her mind? no, because Sarada doesn't think about Sumire or how she feels

For context on why this looks bad from Sumire's pov is because unlike Sumire, Sarada actually SAW Boruto once already before this, SHE got to see Boruto alive and well in person, Sumire didn't, she just heard Boruto was in the village but never got to see him for herself.

It wasnt until chapter 5 where he revealed himself to BOTH of them that Sumire finally got to see Boruto again, and before she could even say or do anything Sarada threw herself at him with no regard for how Sumire was feelings, like she wasn't even there.

You can say Sarada was 'overwhelmed' seeing her friend again because she already saw him, she already knew he was ok, so this wasn't some spur of the moment thing, which is why there's an extra sting from this moment, BECAUSE shes already seen him, had time to process him being ok, had time to feel the relief and joy that Boruto was alive and well and strong enough to scare Code into retreat.

Sumire didnt get any of that tho, so there was probably a lot Sumire wanted to say or do when she finally saw him again, but Sarada didn't give her that chance, it was literally INSTANT before Sumire had even fully turned around she was already running to him.

Im not condemning Sarada for hugging her friend, that's stupid, Im just pointing out from Sumire's pov WHY this moment looked bad and rubbed her the wrong way.

Sumire's question is spot on, whereas Sumire was considerate of Sarada's feelings and understood why she reacted that way and STILL was attentive to how awkward she was feeling and made the effort to ease the tension, Sarada didn't consider Sumire AT ALL in that moment and hasn't been this entire time when you really play it all back.

Here are quotes by Sarada regarding Boruto to Sumire, or about Sumire, see if you notice something.

I only found out...that Boruto had died...after he had already been resurrected. At the time, I didn't even know...that he was in danger. Now that I know...I cant just stand around doing nothing!

But...this? its too cruel! why cant Boruto ever get a break?

But...you saw it too didnt you? if it'd gone badly...Boruto might've died instead of being wounded!

Its too reckless for him...to take on those monsters by himself!

Notice anything? not a single thought about Sumire, not one dialogue directed at her, about her, or how she feels

Now lets look at the same thing but this time from Sumire to Sarada about Boruto or about Sarada.

Stay calm Sarada! dont get flustered! Listen...if Ada finds out about this...it'll likely be bad! Think about it, those who become her captives...cant even think about attacking her! but...the two of us would actually be able to attack her! in short, there's a high possibility...that Ada would deem us security risks!

Sarada no! its too dangerous!

Calm down Sarada, you should be fine, actually you and me both. I don't have it all figured out yet, but given the facts...I'd say that Ada...is involved somehow.

Either way, you and I may be the only ones...who can help Boruto right now. And yet...Im not sure what we can do.

Sarada! you okay!?

Master Konohamaru! protect Sarada!! his target is Sarada! I think-- No, I know it!

Sarada, hang in there! Sarada!

Boruto! This foe is clearly after Sarada! just now...he completely ignored Master Konohamaru...and went for Sarada instead, the moment he saw her!

So many mentions of Sarada, concern, worry, thought for her wellbeing, thought for her mental state, supporting her, there for her.

When you look at all of that, Sumire's quote here really hits hard.

I've...tried to be respectful of your feelings. To understand that you reaction in that moment was to be expected. But...what about you Sarada? when you...were in front of me...did you think about my feelings at all...even just a little bit?

And that right there is what makes Sarada look so bad this chapter, because she DIDNT and when you play it all back, she NEVER has thought about her feelings, not even a little.

I am by no means saying this chapter makes Sarada a horrible person, nor am I saying shes a bad person or friend, but she does have bad friend tendencies that went unaddressed for far too long and its ok to call it out, nobodys perfect, the important thing is whether or not Sarada will finally REFLECT on these flaws and work to change and better herself, only time will tell but for now this opens the door for some much needed development for both of them that I hope Ikemoto doesn't fumble.

Based on spoilers for the new chapter so who knows what the actual translation is but honestly, I hope this means Sarada starts to really think about her relationships with everyone else and how her actions are affecting things. I get that she feels responsible for Boruto and vice versa (almost alarmingly codependent at times), but she has her own story to pay attention to. I was actually rooting for Sumire tbh and I hope Sumire's actions are more recognized by everyone but especially by Sarada and Boruto. I still like all the characters and their complexity, but it's been hard following along (getting Naruto flashbacks)

Well thankfully the official translation did Sumire more justice than the fan one and actually shows the full context of what she meant, she isn't just upset about the hug and actually understands why Sarada did it, but her problem is her complete and utter inconsideration for everyone around her, especially Sumire, her ONE ally that's been by her side supporting her, comforting her, listening to her, picking her up when she was down, worrying and trying to help her when she was hurt

Just look at how much support and consideration Sumire has given to Sarada

The compare it to the thought and consideration Sarada's given her.

Spoiler alert, she hasnt given any, and that's the problem.

I get that she feels responsible for Boruto and vice versa (almost alarmingly codependent at times), but she has her own story to pay attention to.

One would hope but given Ikemotos track record her only 'story' will be just as one of the plot convenient keys to undoing omnipotence

I was actually rooting for Sumire tbh and I hope Sumire's actions are more recognized by everyone but especially by Sarada and Boruto. I still like all the characters and their complexity, but it's been hard following along (getting Naruto flashbacks)

Same, it still frustrates me that Boruto has no idea that its only because of Sumire that Sasuke got sent his way, because if Sumire never snapped her out of it and brought her back to reality Sarada would still be sitting there crying and whining not doing anything, yet in the end the only one Boruto thanks is Sarada, shes also the only one he thinks is unaffected, meaning the entire 3 years [unless KK told him] he thought that Sarada was the only one on his side, having no idea Sumire was working just as hard to try and help him any way she could, he probably doesn't even know that the only reason Shikamaru is on his side now is BECAUSE of her also.

Sumire has done alot to help Boruto, it may not seem like much on the service, but its more than Sarada has done for him currently, Sumire is the main one getting results, but Sarada gets all the credit and recognition.

Im not even a fan of Sumire and think that's fked up, her contributions are just as meaningful and should be recognized as well, Sumire hasn't received a single thank you, not even the tiniest bit of acknowledgment, not even from her own friend Sarada that's been by her side this entire time, Sumire is HIGHLY underappreciated and I think that's partially why she made the comment about her still calling her 'class rep'

Sumire isnt particularly bothered by being called that, what bothers her is that her and Sarada are close friends, they are all they have during this hard time as the only two not brainwashed and on the same side, yet Sarada is still treating her like their class representative instead of her friend, her equal.

Think of it like this, in japan using titles like that is a sign of respect, while using a persons name, especially their first name, is a sign of closeness, so what bothered Sumire about Sarada still calling her that is that it put an unspoken distance between them that was only fueled more by Saradas complete lack of care about her feelings.

Sumire doesnt feel valued as Sarada's friend, all she does is give but never receives, the bare minimum Sarada could do is call her by name like she actually sees her as a close friend but she doesn't even do that, despite all they've been through together now, Sarada still keeps that unspoken distance between them, not treating her as an equal, nor friend, but just 'class rep'.

Im hoping this leads to some meaningful development for the two of them, because I'd hate if this was just tacked on as some meaningless melodrama just to make Sarada slip up in the current mission thinking about it, and then Sumire feels guilty and Sarada starts acting abnormally around Boruto to not upset Sumire making everybody awkward, etc etc ._.

The significance of Sumire’s reveal in Chapter 16?

Keep in mind I’m not a genie, I will get it wrong sometimes lol. I just think it’s fun analyzing the info & guessing.

I think the “eyes” in the phrase “Love looks not with the mind, but with the eyes” is a reference to Eida, her charm ability & Eida’s eyes & how she “looks” with them. The original phrase is from Shakespeare and Ikemoto switched “eyes” & “mind” so it’s definite significance. Eida is a person that’s obsessed with knowing real love

*this is also the first TBV chapter with a phrase on it

I think Sumire’s outburst did a few things for Eida:

She’s thinking about what Sumire said earlier in context of what she actually SAW Boruto say himself. I think it hit Eida that Boruto had actually said those exact words without Sumire knowing it. Which I believe convinced Eida that Sumire truly does love him, since she understands and cares about how he feels this much.

Eida had a talk with Mitsuki that revealed that she is secretly insecure that she doesn’t know what love really is. I think this chapter is a turning point for Eida learning what real love is through watching Sumire.

So that makes Eida respect her. She even took Sumire’s suggestion, thought of boruto’s feelings and chose to respect his wishes rather than act independently. I think that’s why Eida is wishing & thinking of her following her heart. As well as showing her the empathy Sumire had wanted, which is rare for Eida. Shows she has genuine respect for Sumire

The panel composition is drawn as if Eida is looking at Sumire, while thinking to herself “follow your heart” possibly tying back in to the cover phrase “Love looks not with the mind, but with the eyes.”

This doesn’t mean Sumire will be with boruto, it may or may not happen, but I think the major point is that it’s just a confirmation that her feelings are genuine & Eida realized it & it has triggered growth on her part as well & respect for Sumire.

And we seem to get the fallout this upcoming chapter.

Examining Foils: Sumire Kakei & Sarada Uchiha

Part 1:

First chapter of TBV with Eida and daemon challenging Sarada, sumire saved them both. Sarada is always so close to blowing their cover (and I loooove her and Sakura, but they are both volatile lol) and they even show sumire thinking of the mission Shikamaru gave them. This shows how intentional she actually is. It also contrasts to how Sarada never does, despite being the more outwardly ninja of the two.

I think sumire is a great pairing & foil for Sarada, she brings the calculated behavior & cunning personality of a ninja & Sarada brings the passionate heart & strength. Combined, they’re a force to be reckoned with. The manga seems to be setting them up to play off each others strengths. The fact that the confrontation with Eida/Daemon happened directly after shikamaru criticized Sarada’s impulsive brashness, & Sarada noted her own harshness, is significant imo.

Shikamarus strength lies largely in his stealth as a ninja. With later context of him willing to speak to boruto & admitting he will keep his cover as hokage and publicly oppose him while secretly sharing a truce. I think ppl misinterpret shikamarus critique, I believe his main critique of Sarada is how she is going about things, she’s relying on force and not enough on stealth to resolve omnipotence. A true ninja must utilize the shadows and that’s quite literally shikamaru’s ninja way.

When talking to her, he never states his PERSONAL feelings or opinions on the matter, just the diplomatic facts. That’s purposeful.

He actually stops Konohamaru from criticizing Sarada’s passion, remember- shikamaru is VERY big on the will of fire, more hints that it’s not Sarada’s passion that’s the problem, it’s what she’s lacking (patience, stealth & discipline) that’s hindering her growth as a ninja

It seems even Sarada deep down realizes where her problem actually lies

She keeps trying to attack the issue head on instead of thinking like a ninja and gathering intel, planning, and maintaining cover to keep her access to more information for her mission (mission being justice & resolution for boruto)

Another direct parallel with Sarada is that Sumire is the catalyst for Shikamaru to have a change of heart.

By gathering intel that can be used to prove Boruto’s innocence, Sumire led to the biggest amount of progress in Konoha for Borutos case since it started.

Sumire is shown directly making the connection by thinking back to a convo where boruto should be significant to Amado in an effort to make a case for Boruto to be helped. She’s not mindlessly asking him questions, she’s connecting the dots and trying to influence others to help Boruto.

The story has established she thinks back to the mission at hand a lot. I would even bet that she was betting on her convo being listened to by Ino & thus shikamaru by extension. When she thinks of shikamaru in chapter 1, it’s when he was dropping in on their convo via Ino.

& Again, first thing TBV starts with is Sarada failing to get through to shikamaru, and her relaying her failure and frustration to sumire. This marks it’s importance. Sarada noted where she failed with Shikamaru to Sumire, “I was really harsh again” and a few chapters later we have Sumire trying a different approach after listening to Sarada’s failure.

This page ^ of Sai asking Shikamaru what he thinks of Sumire and Amado’s convo goes right into Sumire relaying what she learned to Sarada. The composition hints at connecting the scenes. As well as their first convo of TBV ending with Sarada leaving a question that defines their predicament & sumire taking an active role in the next scenes after.

This, to me, seems like the writers are hinting that Sumire is taking Sarada’s question on in her own ninja way. What Sarada is not seeing, Sumire is. While Sarada will likely be coming in to provide the force needed until she learns to incorporate stealth into her arsenal better.

Having Sumire there when Hidari first attacks Sarada seems to me that Sarada will start taking on her role as Sumires foil in TBV too. Because Sarada balances out Sumires weak areas as well. Their dynamic with boruto being one of the main areas that shows Sumires flaws. She is overly cautious and hesitant where Sarada is more direct with him, leading to Sumire seeming disappointed.

Despite the work she’s doing for boruto to receive justice as well, Sarada gets the big moment & acknowledgment while she seems to feel conflicted & left out. I definitely think this moment will impact her going forward to be more direct.

As the story builds more context I will definitely do more analysis of their foil dynamic and how it progresses! I think these first chapters of the series is to establish the dynamics and we’ll start to see more growth later on.

So…about the whole “Naruto never pays attention to Hinata”…there’s maybe 1 scene where Hinata is present that she doesn’t capture his undivided attention and thats when the K11 all meet up after Iron Country before he goes off to Turtle Island. Literally every other time: Written Exam, Post Neji fight, Team 8 reunion, Search for Itachi Arc, Pain Fight, his arrival to the battlefield vs White Zetsu, her family being his shield as he recharges Sage Mode, Neji’s death, as she falls to Mugen Tsukoyomi somewhere across the battlefield, she gets his attention.

Do you think it's funny when a male character constantly hits the same girl on the grounds that she's said something stupid?

Do you find it normal when moments are defended as acceptable under the guise of being comical by fans of that male character?

Do you think this girl deserves to be hit when she never hit the man back?

I sincerely hope you don't.

So why is it normal when the sexes are reversed?

And why the hell is NaruSaku seen as a healthier ship than NaruHina and Sasusaku when they're all just as bad as each other ( although, I give credit where credit is due, Hinata and Naruto never hit each other)?

The complementary opposite of misogyny is called misandry. A woman “can” hit a man as much as she likes because she is considered to be more harmless than he is. Many men have suffered domestic violence because of their partner. Even today, many still regard the idea of a man being beaten by a woman as something funny, even though some have died as a result.

These moments are anything but funny or romantic, they're unhealthy.

Bijuu Bomb

Hair Expansion Jutsu

That last one is particularly interesting to me because I don't think we've seen a single member of the Uzumaki nor Hyuga clan using the Hair Expansion Jutsu

But not counting Anime Fillers characters, we HAVE only seen Kaguya and Momoshiki using it up until now

Why do you think Himawari has this particular Jutsu? Do you think there is some Otsutsuki heritage stuff at play here?

Well…its a side effect of being a female Uzumaki vessel of Kurama with long hair. In place of a chakra cloak, her hair is prehensile.

After all these years,I don't understand why Naruto thought of Hinata as dark. I can understand why he thought of her is weird but not dark. Even Neji said that she is all light and sweetness.

Well, her hair is dark blue. She’s the moonlit night to his sunny day after all. She IS light & sweetness, but from the perspective of Ninja Jesus when he first actually takes real notice AND she’s just coming out of her shell…yea. And look how far they’ve come. She is the center of his universe.
