Experimental typefaces.
The cut effect on the top poster looks really effective. I don’t know why they have use that effect because it it’s about a conference and how does the cut effect link to that theme. I then realise it’s about a visual conference I think they have done cut effect to show the visual aspect of the poster I think. may be. The layout of the boday text is bit unusual but it’s has the flow with the tittle heading.
The second one Times New Roman, design it’s cleverly done. The layout of the design is really neat, even though there is lot of texts it still had a well order form. This is also a good example to look on how to justify texts.

Experiment types.
Some examples, I found through pinterest. Visually it perfer both design regarding the legible I would say top example is more understandble. The bottom example reader gets confuse which/ where to looks and the bottom right has got lots of texts even though they have break the paragraph and sperate in two colomn it stills is bit confusing to read.

So I have chose A5 landscape book for my book. The reason I have chose is it looks simple and would be much more easier to print in one A3 paper. Also usign the landscape it would have more control on my grids.
Even though I have looked at different format like pop ups. I thought I would be complicatig myself by using pop ups, because I would be struggling to layout the grids and would have to spend ages just sorting the layout and I will be rushing everything in last minute.

IDEAS...
While I was in a middle of generating ideas and how I am going to be laying out my texts. I thought of using printmaking technique for my text. The reason being it add texture and makes it look playful. Using this medium it goes well with my contents aswell for my french polishing and enamelling.

FRENCH POLISHING AND ENAMELLING by R. BITMEAD
These are the images of the existing book cover for FRENCH POLISHING AND ENAMELLING by R. BITMEAD I found while I google the book just what the actual copy looked like. So i have the awarness and knowledge of the book also wanted to see how it has been layed out. Didn’t had much luck finding the layout of the text inside the book but was able to get these images of the book cover. The design of the book cover looks bit old and I think the type used must be modern day type.

Mini Zine
Aren’t they adorable... I saw some mini books while I was in waterstones but I was told not take images. Anyway I thought the idea of mini zine was quite unique and pinterest this images. It does look interesting but would it be relevant for my book? I would say no because the texts we got for the chapter is quite a lot and we got limit of using 8 pages (front and back) so it would be impossible for me to attemopt this idea. I wouldn’t impossible but you won’t be able to read the text even I manage to do it. So for that reason I won’t be using this idea.

A Work of Practical Instruction Richard Bitmead THE IMPROVING AND PREPARATION OF FURNITURE WOODS.
For my book design, I have chose this chapter. The reason being I thought I could play around more with the words and the title itself to make my book interesting and different. I have previoulsy looked into different sizes/ layout for my book which were creative and I aim to achieve same level for my final book design. I haven’t yet decided what size I will be using. i’m still in process of generating more information and ideas.

Origami book fold
While I was looking onto different book design I came across with this design in pinterest . which I thought was really cleverly done. I have done some origami folds before but not in this level. It would be interesting to experiment with origami folds for my book.
Pop up book fold
Pop up was one of the idea I thought would look interesting. The reason was since the book was about furniture based pop up would be great. Becasue of the folds it has. As shown in the figure was thingking I could make a pop up lettering for each topic. But the only thing that is worrying me is I might not be able to complete it on time. Also think I would struggle with the grids. It just going to be lots of hassel. May be another time.

Format
So as our workshops are over, we now need to focus on the final stage of designing our book. Considering the size/ format our book.
From the start for this brief, Tim told us to not use standard size (A4) for our publication so that we can be more creative and be versitle with our ideas and concept.
These are the example I found via google. The size are all different in each one also the visual are very eyecatching.
I have done book bindign session with Hannah before so it would be good idea to make use of that session for my book. The ones I am really confident ois making a beak book and concerntina. They both are really good idea for making the book since it has different fold and is interactiive rather than just being normal fold paper. I haven’t decided what format I will be using so i need to look onto more book binding technique that’s out there. Some I might be familiar but some I have never seen.
