the "irreversible damage" book cover is still perhaps the most succinct demonstration of how the laserfocus the detranxiety movement has on muh poor little girls is fundamentally an outgrowth of the general terror about declining (white) birth rates and white woman fertility as a dwindling resource. like, what's actually wrong with the kitschy smiling little girl in that picture? she looks pretty content for someone "mutilated." is she missing her head, brain, heart, limbs or what? anything that would obstruct her in living out her 8 decades on this earth? hell no, it's much worse than that. it's something that actually matters. she's missing her ability to produce White Babies. you're telling me we've spent decades working to overturn roe or at least make it as difficult as possible and now that we succeeded they've found a way to weasel out of being a reproductive resource anyway? that just won't do.

like other people have said the focus of these protests should always be on Palestine itself because that is the root of this violence. but I’m also just taken aback at seeing department chairs and deans and professors being arrested and fired for supporting these campus encampments because the architecture of western universities is structured to maintain teaching programs & hiring decisions & public images that are welcoming to individual and corporate donors, something that is true broadly but especially in the US. like we don’t get buildings named after oil companies and billionaires on university campuses by accident. obviously this is not the first time western profs have ever engaged in protest and put themselves on the line, but seeing people specifically in positions designed to support that structure - in the United States no less - is kinda flabbergasting, like there has to be a pretty significant amount of rage and discontent for chairs and deans to be willing to risk their incredibly high paying and comfortable jobs to support divestment from israel

Among those arrested in Atlanta today were Noelle McAfee, Chair of the Philosophy Department at Emory University. You can hear her ask the PhD student taking the video:

I know white people especially struggle with this concept but like when a Palestinian, or any other group of Black or brown people are calling you in and making a general statement about the state of the allyship for our causes, and making criticism of common behaviours or whatever else, that is NOT an invitation for you to confess your own shortcomings or your journey of self-improvement. Especially not under our posts. Make your own post if you really feel like it. But we don't need to hear your personal story of how you ignored our long-standing genocide until you saw enough people doing the right thing and you decided to follow. Keep that to yourself.

These posts are meant for you to REFLECT ON YOURSELF! BY YOURSELF! QUIETLY! And decide on your OWN what part of your behaviours you can identify being criticized in these posts and fix them!! And if you need help you can ask a question without necessarily giving us all the details of how you used to be ignorant or whatever. We're not here to hand out forgiveness we're trying to help coordinate and organize people to be more cohesive and we're giving you tips to be better allies. We're not giving you counciling for white guilt!!!
