This was one of many quotes from Karl Marx that I feel a lot of folks don't know about that would change their perspective on him. There are a lot of people who decry Socialism as the anti-American devil, when in reality, true socialism is closer to their political stance than traditional religious conservatism. Karl Marx was a staunch supporter of arming the people, to enable them to rise up against their government, which at the time was beyond tyrannical. And during his life he did so much work to make that a reality. I've seen a lot of the gun crowd make remarks that we need to send a shipment of ARs(freedom) to Hong Kong to arm the protestors there to fight back against their government. To them it's little more than a joke, but during his life Karl Marx acted. He supplied money and weapons to the armed resistance in Brussels during an attempted uprising there around 1848. Instead of promoting the idea that the people fleeing oppression in their home countries should be greeted at our border at gunpoint and marched into cages, he put his money where his mouth was to aid them in taking their country back.

This is what a hero looks like, courage and compassion don’t require a badge. Every community needs people like this woman. A community that can rely on its members can be incredibly powerful.

Just responded to a shooting beneath my window. The victim was in agonal respirations when I pulled him from the vehicle. Myself and a medical student who lives in my building rendered first aid with no equipment. Police when they arrived on scene did not offer medical assistance and claimed none of them had medical kits when I was screaming for supplies. While myself and my neighbor were performing chest compressions one of the officers took my concealed carry piece and pulled me away to take down my information while my neighbor continued chest compressions alone. I got into an argument with more than one of the officers about their failure to use their individual medical kits. One ejected me from the crime scene while the victim remained without definitive medical care and another informed me that medical kits were “only for situations involving an active shooter”. He said this while responding to a shooting.

I guess I probably don’t even have to say it considering the police apathy towards the victim, but the victim was a black man.

So now I’m enraged, covered in blood, and sick to my stomach. Police are not protectors.

Medical supplies are replaceable. People are not.

Our goal, our mission is to provide knowledge and educational resource to individuals to help them become defenders of their communities. This goes far beyond guns or gun culture. This is about emergency and disaster preparedness, community organizing, communication, resource distribution, and defense. 

Do you consider yourself a defender of your community? What kind of kit do you have ready to respond to the emergencies that are most likely to happen in your region? 

I live in Appalachia, so I have a couple of kits. My get home bag consists of a wide variety of bushcraft tools, weapons, medical supplies, food and water for 3 days, etc. In my region I know that if I’m caught outside of my house when disaster strikes, my get home bag almost certainly needs to be able to get me through the mountains and in a worst-case scenario, deal with confrontations with any malicious locals that are most certainly armed. I also have a variety of kits here on the property built to either keep emergency items available and organized and ready to be thrown in the back of the car if we need to evacuate.
