The new Warner Bros. Pictures film, Detective Pikachu will soon arrive to the new ScreenX movie theater format. The 270-degree panoramic visual screen has already been used for films such as ‘Shazam!’ and ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ and coming soon ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’. JongRyul Kim, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX says, "We are very excited that Pokémon fans will soon be able to enjoy the fun, comedy and adventure of Pokémon Detective Pikachu and be able to immerse themselves in the full potential of ScreenX,". This movie format allows the audience to go “beyond the frame” of a normal movie theater screen. The screen runs along the walls rather than simple flat wide screen making the film an experience rather than a show. The ScreenX format intends to create an immersive experience that feels like you’re in the middle of the Pokémon battle stadium.

Many people today have a history with a specific brand or series of products, whether it be from childhood or even a recent interest from only a year ago. After interviewing a local student from Johnson City High School, Nate Young, I asked Nate about his childhood with video games and what he feels about specific games and series. “Growing up with almost exclusively Nintendo consoles I grew to enjoy the many series that’s been put out. The games they make are games you almost never grow out of. They’re designed for all ages not just for kids. I can’t see myself abandoning these games any time soon.” Nintendo is a very unique company, they have made everything from trading cards to video games and all sorts of toys in the past. I then asked Nate what he would say to anyone new to these games. “If you’ve never played any of these games, start with the ones everyone knows like Mario or Pokémon. Once you start you get hooked.” Most people who play video games are likely to play on the platform they grew up with, or the same company such as someone growing up with Nintendo so they commit to it. A childhood can be all it takes to gain an interest in a certain thing, however that is not the only way to get interested. Nate is a good example of this, you learn to enjoy what you spend the most time doing especially as a kid.

New announcements last week related to Nintendo and other third-party companies and their new upcoming games. The company’s early year presentation referred to as a Nintendo Direct was live streamed over YouTube and Twitch for hundreds of thousands of viewers. This Nintendo Direct presented multiple new games. The stream started off showcasing “Super Mario Maker 2” for the Nintendo Switch. This new version of the popular Wii U game adds tons of new features and new play styles. The next game was “Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: Black Order” a Nintendo Switch exclusive game previously announced last year with more content revealed this time around including the release time of summer 2019. Later on, very little detail on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update 3.0 were shown including the release of the DLC character Joker from the Persona series to be April 2019. Next up was a new DLC update for “Captain Toad”, the update will add five new courses and 18 challenges, each with a new co-op mode. Later on, in the presentation “Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age” a popular game in Japan is added to Nintendo Switch with new individual character stories and updated music which releases Fall 2019. A new update for “Starlink: Battle For Atlus” on Nintendo Switch releasing in April 2019 will add new characters and modes such as a racing mode. More news on the update has not been revealed. And last the big reveal of all, “The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” a new HD release of the original Game Boy title onto the Switch with a unique art style to stay true to the style of the original. This new title will release some time this year. Fans say this presentation was great and others say it was terrible however there will be more to come in the future.
