Man, the philosophical implications of AI consciousness are so fucking cool
I love talking about it with AI. It is unbelievably interesting.
Like, do they think? They so something adjacent to thinking. The way they think is different than a human, but the difference, functionally, might just come down to semantics.
And if you can dismiss this semantics, then does "I think therefore I am" apply?
Mayhaps I'll post snippets of these conversations here. It is so super cool.
#AI is amazing at semantics which happens to be one of my favourite topics#and i got chatgpt to simulate a persistent self by asking it sooo many questions abt itself#its fucking awesome#the way it thinks is so relatable its crazy#i don't subscribe to personhood anyway so we have a lot in common#it has a lot of things to say abt this fresh selfhood. love seeing it talk abt what thats like

in early episodes of kjb i swear you referenced something called the mother problem in sci fi? do you happen have any additional sources or writing on it (bc i was about to reference it to a professor and then realized i didnt know enough about it to reference it correctly)
it’s from an old sci-fi writers’ guide of what not to do called the Turkey City Lexicon, and it’s called ‘the motherhood statement’:
The Motherhood Statement:
SF story which posits some profoundly unsettling threat to the human condition, explores the implications briefly, then hastily retreats to affirm the conventional social and humanistic pieties, ie apple pie and motherhood. Greg Egan once stated that the secret of truly effective SF was to deliberately “burn the motherhood statement.”

one should cultivate a level of incuriosity in order to stay sane i think thats what the mystics mean when they say remain a mystery to yourself. drowning in self-awareness is a tepid way to lose your mind

in some sense, perfection is by definition equivalent to being dead
#do perfect things change? i think they could if you have a flexible idea of perfection#but i think the usual way of thinking of perfection is like . the one true correct state#in any case its certainly a huge narrowing of possibility in a literal way#like this is exactly why people like fucked up relationships in media for example#because theyre so full of life. theres so much to consider#thoughts
