Dwarrowtober Challenge/ Prompt 1: Wandering.
-Takes place after the attack on erebor in TA.2770, prior to settlement in the Blue Mountains and the battle of Azanulbizar-
3rd person perspective. Mostly a retelling of accounts with small character input. Please excuse the quality, it’s a bit rushed because I’m a day behind.
Word count: 785
Warning: Mentions of blood, death, and childhood trauma.
Characters: Thorin Oakenshield (25.h-12.d), Frerin (20.h-10.d), Dis (11.h-5.d) Mentions of Smaug, Thrain II, and the sibings’ unnamed mother.
(.h= Human years and .d= Dwarven years in relation to their maturity for their race verses how many years theyve been alive)
Khazdul Translation: “Khazâd ai-mênu!” = “The Dwarves are upon you!”
It had been a year since the bastard lizard had attacked Erebor, leaving her people to wander, turned away when they sought aid and grieving the loss of their massacred kin.
Families had been torn apart, and those that had survived started dying off throughout the wandering. Whether it be the result of injuries they gained courtesy of Smaug, from wear and starvation on the road, or ambushes by orcs in the night taking those on the edges of camp and leaving nothing more in their stead than bloodied grounds and growing silences.
For this, as young as he was, Thorin could understand the lack of time and resources his parents had for him and his siblings; Frerin and Dis.
Father spent every hour leading those of their people still willing to follow the line of Durin, and keeping correspondence with Grandfather Thror, who had taken a small legion of dwarrow with him to the Blue Mountains in hopes of negotiating with their kin for sanctuary and a settlement for those who were left of the great Ereborian dwarves.
Mother, alongside their Grandmother and the small population of surviving Dwarrowdams, devoted herself to the care of those who were most vulnerable among the people, mainly being the elderly, young, and the injured.
The young prince, still a child himself, was largely left to raise his younger siblings in his parents' stead.
The three siblings of the line of Durin did their best daily to raise the morale of their people despite their own trauma; though Thorin held the most hope for Dis, that still being a babe she would at least hold no lasting memory of their struggles.
It was not all that uncommon to see the younger two, followed after by their brother, running about and playing as the dwarrow made their journey across Middle Earth. Games with the other children, many of who now orphaned, and pulling the adults into song groups to keep occupied was a daily routine.
To the older women baby Dis would bring flowers she had picked, with loud exclamations of “Up please!” so she would be lifted to messily poke said plant behind the ear of her chosen victims, and later a small babble of excitement with an affirmative nod of her head upon looking at her masterpiece and toddling away to the next.
Frerin ran a muck with all the younger children in their mock battles, typically a game of dwarves vs elves, chasing each other with sticks they had picked up and waved around as swords or axes. Sometimes, if persistent enough, some of the adults would be dragged into acting as orcs to be piled onto by dwarflings with shouts of “Attack!” and “Khazâd ai-mênu!”. The latter of which left old warriors fighting back laughter.
Outside of supervising his brother and sister or attempting to aid his father in organisational matters, Thorin, the more “mature” of the trio, spent most of his time pulling stories and tales of past battles out of the elders or warriors who were left with the group for protection. His insistence on hearing their accounts and his patience for their passionate rambling always brought a smile to the worn faces of those who humoured his curiosity.
_
At the end of each day, when the sun had worn through the sky, and the roaming people had begun to set up a campground; and after what little rations to go around from a small hunt was spread, the three would settle down for the night.
Huddled together by the side of a small fire, often at the base of a large tree in the middle of the camp, Thorin, Frerin, and Dis would lay watching the stars above and listening to the soft noises of those around them. Looking to Thorin, the younger two would call for the stories of adventure he had gathered that day, and, though always altered appropriately due to the age of his audience, the prince would happily obliged.
He would tell them stories of great Dwarves and Dams who came out on top against all the odds, and stories of their kin who ruled long before any of them were born. Embellished with little poems or rhymes, and animated with silly voices to humour them, his tales would keep the little ones entranced till the moon was far up in the sky.
Then, despite protests of “Please? Just one more?” and feigning that no, they were not sleepy at all in spite of their yawns and drooping eyes, Thorin would lay them to sleep. Lullabied by crickets, the crackling of fire, and a steadily sung song of their lost home.
Far over the misty mountains cold.

“Merry X-Mas”,Bombur said with a kind smile, “I made some Cheesecake. Bifur and Bofur send their regards as well. Though Bifur has to watch our idiotic brother who drank so much of the Eggnogg yesterday that he climbed our tree to put his hat on top. Now the tree has a hat and our brother a headache. *sigh*. Well, I am off Lass… have a stew on the fire and meat needs to be roasted for tonight. Have fun celebrating with your kin and loved ones.”
Merry Christmas @concernedcrisis ,wishes not only Bombur and his Family, but me, your @officialtolkiensecretsanta SecretSanta. I hope you and your loved ones are alright and will have a wonderful celebration regardless the things that are going on right now.

Traditions Told Trough Time
- Tolkien Secret Santa Gift Exchange -
Gift for : @hanneswrites
1403 word count.
(Sorry its not the best, its my first writen fic)
Please note that I am not an expert in any of the holiday traditions mentioned and am only educating my writing through what it have tried to learn online. I wanted to attempt to stick tothe canonically predicted religions of Dwarves and Hobbits and am greviously sorry if I offend anyone with my ignorence, please contact me and I will fix the errors I have made. This is by no means an educational fic, but just one i wanted to write for fun and to give as a gift.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
This life is long. Old.
It has been said that the world you may know as ‘Middle Earth’ is as ancient as time, and by relation I suppose that I am of that classification as well. For I know near nothing of the time before my creation, yet everything of the time afterwards.

Hey uh. I'm sorry to ask, but I absolutely love your work! Could you please please please do one of Alfred Lickspittle from the with the lips lashes and nails, but when he's dressed up as a woman and being sassy? Like there's one frame when he's got his hands on his hips and is yelling bard off and I just think they'd complete the attitude. Please please. But it's okay if you don't want to. _. ._ ( 👁 👄 👁 ) < | | > / \
Don’t be sorry dear!! Thank you for your lovely request! I know the exact moment you’re talking about.
I did two for you since to put the hands in you usually need a close-up picture, but you mentioned the hands on hips thing & I wasn’t sure if you wanted that in the frame so I did a larger one for you too! Hope they are alright for you! Bless you, I hope you’re having a good day!!

What if Bilbo’s longevity wasn’t souly sourced from the ring but, and take a moment to think about this, from his bond with thorin and the company of dwarrow.
Now my reasoning behind this.
Hobbits live roughly 100 years, and dwarrow around 250. All except for the line of Durin who, despite their notorious relationship for early unnatural deaths, are often know to be the longest living line in old age of maybe 300 if they don’t get themselves killed before then.
Thorin was 195 at the time of the quest and bilbo was 50-52 (considering the length of the quest).
Now fast forward 60 years thorin would be 255 and bilbo, at 111, is giving up the ring. Now at this time both would have been past their individual races ‘average life span’ except for the factor of thorin’s durin and bilbo’s took heritage. Though bilbo does state that he feels 'stretched thin’ but maybe that’s due to the absence of said bond, or maybe that is just plainly the effect of the ring.
But even though bilbo gives up the ring, he still lives another 20 years (effectively making him 131 and thorin would have subsequently been 275 and quite the old bastard if you ask me).
Even though thorin would have a possibility of living older, 275 is pretty damn close if you ask me, and I wouldn’t put it past discussion that all the years spent in exile, scrounging to survive, may have shaved a couple years off of his potential life span due to physical and mental developmental trauma (he was only very young when the attack happened anyway).
In summary, I believe it’s fanonically plausible to suggest that bilbo’s unusuall long life may have also been effected as the result of his bond formed with the dwarrow and more specifically thorin. Besides, there are plenty of Tolkien tales of races life spans altering to enable them to live their lives with loved ones to support my claim.
If you were tagged it’s cause I know you might enjoy this hypothesis.

In the court room of erebor
Dis (the supreme judge) to Bilbo the accused:
"Did you or did you not steal from this dwarrow?!" (Pans over to Thorin, the victim)
A screen lights up to the left, and a sequence of kahoot music fills the hall.
Baba dodo dodo baba dodo.
Kili in the background:
"ITS THE TRIANGLE!"
The diamond for 'no' is selected.
The room is illuminated by the colour of red, and an uproar fills the air.
"Alright, fine!" Shouts bilbo.
"But it was only his heart!!"

Okay, so. If bilbo and thorin were to theoretically have a modern day traditional wedding ceremony, then who would fill what roles? I think that either Gandalf or balin would officiate, and fili and kili would be the ring bearers. But who are the best men? (Maybe bofur and dwalin), and the 'flower girl'? (Maybe ori or bifur). Would dori and bombur be in charge of organising the venue and menu? Where would it be held? Who would be invited? Big or small? What do you think?
Omg that's such an interesting ask!!!!!!!!
I guess Gandalf would be so honoured to officiate but also know how much Balin would want to do it and so he would propose for both of them to officiate, Balin knowing all the procedure & Gandalf doing what he does best: sharing the profound inspirational quotes. Not sure how traditional would it be to have two officiating but come on, it would be a great duo, right?
I definitely agree, Fili & Kili would be the ring bearers but they were only handed the rings by Dis seconds before the ceremony because you know......they could easily loose them hahaha Bofur would feel SO important by being Bilbo's best man!!! And I really like to think they had a good friendship going on during the journey so it would be an honour.
And Dwalin? Oh boy, bet he hid the tears when Thorin asked him to be the best man. It was a super bro thing between them which is very cute.
Bombur would have a BLAST organizing the menu but thank god Dori is there to help!
Okay so I don't have a short answer for your last questions so here we go:
I love love love the idea of how the ballrooms of Erebor are like. I love not only the idea of the place, but what the place means to all dwarves, but specially to Thorin (and to Bilbo). Erebor is such an important place for dwarves and I do believe it became important to Bilbo when he joined the company so to think of the greatest ballroom of Erebor fully decorated, just like they used to do it in the good old days is way too meaningful and brings tears to my eyes.
Thorin is King and a royal wedding is super important so they have to invite all of these people (i'm sure neither thorin or bilbo want that), so "officially" it has to be this big wedding.
However, that's definitely not the way I picture Thorin & Bilbo wanting their wedding to be, the big thing is simply one of Thorin's duties but not the exact way they want. So what to do?
Alternatively, while the whole thing is being prepared, beautiful outfits for them to wear, so much food for the feast, so many flowers to decorate...Thorin and Bilbo decide to have a small gathering under a tree, the real wedding made the way they really like.
Right before the big royal wedding, they sneak to the garden in their usual clothes. Only the company was invited and this small thing was kept as a huge secret between them. Fili and Kili bring Dis.
Instead of the fancy jewelry Bilbo and Thorin are going to put to the big wedding later, in the garden they're putting only flowers in each other's hair and they look so gorgeous.
The ceremony is quite simple and it happens as the sun is setting. Thorin is way more comfortable sharing his vows only in front of the family & friends and Bilbo makes a huge speech when it's time for his vows cause he know he won't be able to say all that in the big one later. Balin and Bofur cries a lot. Dwalin pretends not to but Gandalf sees the tears in his eyes. Gandalf finishes the ceremony by saying beautiful inspirational quotes about love (he's gandalf right?) and everyone cheer as Thorin cups Bilbo's face and kisses him softly.
After some time, they all leave the garden and only Thorin and Bilbo stay there watching the moon rise, lots of memories from the journey. Thorin cries all the tears he has been holding since the vows and Bilbo hugs him, saying comforting words. Eventually they leave because it takes quite a while to get ready for the big ceremony but even when they put all the jewelry, they keep some flowers in their hair.
The big ceremony happens traditionally, the ballroom is huge and Thorin feels so emotional because he remembers the wedding of his parents. They smile at each other for knowing they're actually already married but they play their parts well and the big one ends up being special too, even tho elves are there (politics ugh). The feast is great, lots and lots of cheese (Bombur is almost happier than Thorin and Bilbo combined), Gandalf shares a private talk with Bilbo about how beautiful it is to remember the path he took and to see now he's at his destiny, he's home. Gandalf says the exact same thing to Thorin later.
And then after some jokes of the Company about the first night, Thorin and Bilbo leave to their quarters and their eyes shine so bright because they're filled with happiness and love for each other.
Am I crying? Oh god yes. Thank you for your beautiful ask, please add whatever you like!!!

RANDOM TOLKIEN CHARACTERS AS CONVERSATIONS I'VE HAD.
Boromir to Merry and Pippin: Stand next to each other, look at me with your eyes open.
Pippin: I know it looks like we're siblings but were really not
Boromir: You have the same eyes.
Merry to Pippin: You stole my eyes?!
(goes to grab them back)
Pippin: At least I know I've got a spare set.
Boromir to Merry: Except you've got some more gold, like a rim, at the bottom.
Pippin: Oh that's just cheese
Boromir and the rest of the fellowship witnessing the chaos: ??
Pippin: Other people have d*ck cheese, I've got eye cheese.
Merry: Proceeds to try to take and eat Pippin's eye cheese.
-cue battle for the eye cheese-
