I am chronically forgetful of things like this. particularly if it's a bottle I use at work. so I have had to devise a system that allows me to still drastically reduce my plastic waste from disposable water bottles while maintaining hydration and also not poisoning myself anymore.

1 disposable bottle a week for work. on Monday morning I get myself a nice flavored drink, as a Monday morning treat, and when empty that becomes my work water bottle for the week. I make sure it is empty and the cap is left off over night so it's not getting all icky in there. on Friday night I chuck it in the recycling bin.

at home I just use cups.

if you constantly struggle to wash your bottles I promise you that one disposable bottle a week so you aren't making yourself sick all the time is not something to feel guilty about. it's okay. please take care of your health.

ps if you are going to continue to use a reusable bottle then I still highly recommend storing it empty with the cap off if you are going to leave it alone for a few hours between washes. airflow is your friend.

I live in a never ending cycle of forgetting to wash my water bottle until I give myself mildew poisoning and then I spend a few days wondering why I have a sore throat and migraine until I remember to push that damn rock up the hill

anyways, this is your reminder to wash your damn water bottle and drink lots of water without killing yourself
