I didn't ask why it bothered you. I don't care about that. I asked why did you start your post with something along the lines of "people are pronouncing the word 'axolotl' wrong" and I explained why the popular pronunciation of the word is actually correct. You made an argument and I made a counter argument. You didn't address the counter argument and you called me a tar pit.
@vaspider
False equivalence. A person's name is in no way comparable to the name of an animal species. Dead naming a person shows that you don't respect them (if on purpose). We choose are own names. This is very unique to our names and you cannot compare it with any other word.
The pronunciation of the word axolotl has absolutely nothing to do with that. Axolotls didn't choose the name of their species. People did. The name and it's pronunciation will probably change in the future too. That doesn't show that we... don't respect the animal? Or the people who made the previous name and it's pronunciation? Words simple involve with time. It has happened to all old words and it will happen to all the new words too.
Pronunciations specifically are tricky because if an incorrect pronunciation gets popular enough, it will eventually be considered one of the correct pronunciations (like pronouncing the "t" in "often")

I know this might make people mad, but absolutely refusing to even attempt to treat your mental illness, and instead just endlessly inflicting your unmitigated episodes on the people around you, is abusive. Your loved ones are not stress toys that you can just squeeze every time you feel bad. It is bad if someone says your repeated behavior is hurting them, and you take no steps to change. I know damn well that you can’t always help how your brain acts, but I’ve also spent a lot of years trying to stop my spiraling brain in its tracks, work on strategies to calm down, and consider the impact I’m having on others, because I grew up in a household with people who have the attitude of, “I have the right to consume all the attention in the house and drain your energy every single day because I feel miserable, and you’re the bad guy if you say that I’m making you feel bad and that I need to get help. I can treat you however I want because of my anxiety.”
#my ex friend who had diagnosed themselves with like 5 different things#and refused to get any sort of help for any of them#or even just... go to a psychologist and get an actual diagnosis? it's free here#they said 'im afraid of the social stigma' as if they haven't been saying they have these things to every person they know#like. what if you're wrong? you are willing to believe that a psychologist can be wrong but not you?#you wouldn't diagnose yourself with a serious physical illness so why a mental one?
