Social Media Ethics by Connor Caldwell
Social Media Ethics
The current state of social media ethics: what trends are happening in the industry? What are two current cases related to social media ethics? Outline the current code of ethics for social media by a professional organization you would be interesting in joining as part of their social media staff.
A trend that has been happening in the social media industry is the emergence of IRL live streams, which has caused normal influencers on other platforms to switch over to streaming. Another trend that is taking place in modern-day social media is influencers promoting cryptocurrency. One case related to social media ethics is Logan Paul's crypto zoo scam, which is a sad one. This all derived from Logan Paul promoting and designing a cryptocurrency app/platform for his fans, who were the target audience for profit. According to Coffee Zilla's YouTube Video, Logan Paul withdrew all funds from his crypto accounts through multiple shell wallets to hide this scam. Another ethical case in social media is Liver King, who promoted his lifestyle and body wellness as an all-natural one. However, due to More Plates More Dates on YouTube, it came out that Liver King was in fact taking steroids.  An outline for Snapchat's social media ethics would probably include the principles and values of accountability, transparency, respect, privacy, and compliance laws with certain jurisdictions. This is not exact and only speculation according to Open AI, as Snapchats’ exact standards are private and disclosed in certain settings.
Brands/professionals with strong social media ethical codes: what brands are utilizing proper social media ethical practices? Are there any professionals that you feel practice strong ethical behavior on social media? Support your choice with evidence. What are some takeaways you can bring forth in your own practices?
One social media organization that has been recognized for always erroring on the side of ethics is Pinterest. They are known for prioritizing user safety, privacy, and overall interaction quality. According to the Washington Post, they have decided to spend 50 million dollars on reform methods to minimize all discrimination on their platform. This is in reaction to allegations that the platform had discrimination against women and those of color. One professional who displays ethical behavior on social media is Patrick Bet David. He has a podcast that is very neutral in the guests they have on, as well as during the taping Patrick remains respectful and ethical toward all views and situations. As stated in his interview with Fox news Patrick mentions how unethical policies and decisions lead to bad situations such as the death of Matthew Perry and other loneliness. Some takeaways I can leave with are to always error on the opposing arguments side as well as admit it when you are wrong.
Key concepts and issues: what main concepts do you think are necessary to adhere to for your own personal conduct online?
Honesty, empathy, and respecting privacy are vital for good behavior on social media. Follow the rules of the online community, respect copyright, and stay safe online. Check facts before sharing, and take breaks for your well-being. Create a positive online space by avoiding bullying and trolling.
What to do and what not to do: what main concepts do you feel strongly against and want to make sure you avoid on social media?
To maintain a positive and ethical online presence, it's crucial to avoid specific social media practices. Firstly, refrain from hate speech, which involves not promoting discrimination based on factors like gender, race, or religion. Second, avoid engaging in cyberbullying, which means refraining from online harassment and threats. Third, verify information before sharing it to prevent spreading false facts. Lastly, steer clear of trolling, behavior meant to provoke others. By following these guidelines, you can protect your online reputation and well-being while fostering a more courteous and positive online community.
Bullet point 5-10 core concepts that you will follow as a practicing social media professional. Include citations that you used for sources/supports for this.
Transparency and Authenticity: To gain the audience's trust, keep your brand's online presence real and transparent.
Data Privacy and Compliance: To safeguard user information, abide by applicable laws and data privacy rules.
information Relevance and Quality: Provide pertinent, high-quality information that benefits your readers and maintains their interest.
Community Engagement: Encourage deep connections with your virtual community by swiftly answering messages and comments.
Constant Learning: Utilize industry resources and continual professional development to stay abreast of the most recent social media trends and best practices.

Connor Caldwell Non-Profit, Tate Pledge
Connor Caldwell
The use of social media by charitable groups is essential for raising awareness, enlisting supporters, and ultimately bringing about change. Tate Pledge depends on its social media presence to engage a global audience with their mission to improve lives in over 14 nations. In this blog post, we'll evaluate the vanity metrics on Tate Pledge's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube) and discuss how to improve them. Additionally, for Facebook and Instagram, we'll offer suggestions for advanced, channel, and behavioral metrics.
Based off information on Chat gpt, vanity metrics, such as likes, follows, and shares, provide a basic view of a brand's social media success but usually lack depth and real-world application. One of Tate Pledge's current vanity metrics on their social media channels may be the number of people who have liked or followed their profiles. They also monitor how frequently tweets or shares of Tate Pledge content occur. The final element enhancing their vanity metrics is the number of comments made on their postings. Although these metrics indicate some level of engagement, they don't always reflect the kinds of actions or contributions that are crucial to a nonprofit's success.
According to AI, Tate Pledge can improve these vanity metrics by crafting compelling, emotionally resonant content that tells the stories of the individuals they've impacted. By creating interesting, emotionally relevant material that shares the experiences of the people Tate Pledge has impacted, they may raise these vanity metrics. Videos, reviews, and infographics that highlight their work can be included in this. As well as implementing CTAs in their postings that are obvious and actionable. Encouraging their audience to share a post, make a donation, or take part in fundraising events.
According to Strike Social, one advanced metric for a platform like YouTube, where video content is key, measuring Video View-through Rate (VTR) is crucial. VTR calculates the percentage of viewers who watched a video to its completion or a certain point. This metric is important for Tate Pledge as it assesses the effectiveness of their video content in engaging and retaining viewers, which can correlate with their ability to convey their mission and inspire action.
One channel metric is building a devoted and interested audience which requires monitoring the rate at which YouTube subscribers are adding new accounts. It shows how many new subscribers were added over a certain time frame. For Tate Pledge, growing their YouTube subscriber count is essential for improving their audience and effect.
The behavioral metric for Tate Pledge on YouTube is regulating the community. For Tate Pledge to effectively develop a feeling of community and debate around their cause, it is crucial to assess how many comments and general engagement (likes, shares) there are on YouTube videos. It illustrates how engaged and connected their audience is.
For Instagram an advanced metric they can use is story completion rate. Because Instagram Stories only last for a short while, it's important to know how many users are actually watching the complete story. The percentage of viewers that viewed the entire story is captured by Instagram Stories Completion Rate. This metric can be used by Tate Pledge to evaluate the success of their storytelling initiatives on this platform.
Similar to YouTube, Instagram's follower growth is a key channel metric measure. In order to assess the effectiveness of their content and engagement efforts, Tate Pledge should monitor the rate at which their Instagram following expands over time.
Based on information available at Later, monitoring the amount of UGC related to Tate Pledge's mission and initiatives on Instagram is essential for understanding the level of engagement and advocacy within their community. UGC reflects how well their supporters are actively participating in spreading the organization's message.
Social media's influence in a fast-changing digital ecosystem cannot be overstated, particularly for groups like Tate Pledge that aim to improve millions of people's lives.

Connor Caldwell Class Blog Post
I am going to address how content influencers are using AI and other Artificial intelligence platforms. One way designers and online artists are using AI is by utilizing its text-to-image ability. Some AI software that is available and free to the public is able to create beautiful and captivating images using only text. Another way creators on social media are using AI to help their content is to come up with different concepts, dialogue, scripts, and storylines for videos. This allows them to be more creative and efficient when it comes to brainstorming. Both of these methods that are described can be seen as unoriginal or controversial. However in my opinion I feel that if you don't adapt you will fall behind, and with the efficiency AI presents you will be left behind fast.
Another area in which AI is being used by influencers to benefit their platform is education. AI, depending on which version you are using has very accurate and eclectic knowledge on very basic and also very complex topics. For example, I personally have used AI to code my own website before. Not in the sense of asking it to do it, and spitting out a website. More so in the sense that I already had basic background knowledge of HTML and coding. So I used this to combine my knowledge with AI and fill in the missing gaps, to result in a complete webpage. This same method is used by educational influencers to help their community and followers realize the extent of their knowledge doesn't end at what they learned but in fact how they can seek that knowledge and also manipulate it. This is for the better of society in my opinion, as prior people's knowledge went only so far as they can remember. Now your knowledge goes as far as you can think and seek because the AI does the remembering for you. All one has to do is to know how to properly ask/ seek out that information.
Lastly, the final area in which influencers are using AI nowadays to benefit their content and online platforms is farming content and clips. Influencers are using the fact that AI has a vast database of their appearance and mannerisms, to create content and clips without them actually being in it. For example, this is not to anyone's benefit, but there is a page out there that has utilized all public knowledge on joe rogan and all clips of him talking. To artificially create podcast clips and audio messages that sound almost identical to the actual man and his rhetoric. This is a detriment to society as now people can falsely defame humans by artificially creating a dialogue or agenda that was not put out by the original entity. I feel as if in the long run people will come up with a method of identifying if the voice and audio clips the real people and not fake.
These are just a few ways people in the present day(influencers) are using AI to help boost their online presence and businesses.

Connor Caldwell Class Blog Post
Hello everyone! My name is Connor Caldwell, and I'm excited to share my ideas and insights on social media in this blog post. I'm going to explain it in my own words since, while textbooks are fantastic, sometimes they don't capture the true spirit of things.
What Is Social Media?
What is social media to me, to begin with? It's kind of like a virtual playground where you can interact with, learn from, and share with individuals from all over the world. It's a platform that has completely changed how we interact and conduct business. Social media is more than simply a technology; it's a phenomenon that has changed the cultural landscape of our world.
What I Do on Social Media
Let's now discuss how I would describe myself as a social media user. I like to think of myself as a digital explorer who is always looking to expand his or her horizons in the world of social media. To interact with my audience and share my opinions on entrepreneurship, personal growth, and engaging with my customers. I use a variety of media like Instagram, Ebay, YouTube, Snapchat, and LinkedIn. Social media is a tremendous tool for networking and education, not simply for posting selfies and cat videos in my opinion.
Challenges and Strengths
I'm proud to say that being a content producer and strategist is one of my talents when it comes to knowing social media. I've devoted numerous hours to researching the social media engagement algorithms, trends, and psychology. I understand how to create captivating material that connects with my audience and entices them to return for more. In addition, I'm good at forging deep bonds with my fans and winning their steadfast support.
I do, however, have my fair share of difficulties in the social media sphere, just like everyone else. The hardest issue is keeping up with the trends and algorithms that are constantly changing. It can be quite difficult to change rapidly when what worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. Dealing with internet trolls and criticism is another issue, but I've learned to grow a thick skin and concentrate on the positive influence I can have.
Aspirations and Objectives
So what do I hope to learn about social media in this session and beyond? In any case, my aim is to step up my social media game. To increase my online presence and interact with a larger audience, I want to become familiar with the most recent methods and tactics. I'm eager to learn more about analytics, making decisions based on data, and perfecting the craft of presenting stories on social media.
But for me, it's not just about numbers and fans. Through my content, I hope to truly affect people's lives. I want to encourage and uplift others so they can pursue their ambitions as I did. Social media is an effective tool for disseminating knowledge and goodwill.
Conclusion
In conclusion, for me, social media goes beyond simple textbook definitions. I keep learning and developing in this dynamic, ever-changing environment. I consider it my duty as a social media user to use this medium to motivate and inform others. My areas of expertise are in content development and strategy, but I'm always willing to take on new challenges and change with the times in the digital world.
So let's look forward to an interesting adventure throughout this class and beyond as we explore the virtually endless potential of social networking. Friends, keep checking back for more awesome content!
