My trip to CTL was a great all around experience once again! They made a ton of changes to my work and gave me suggestions for better organization of my paper. The two people there were very nice and very eager to help me with my work. My only problem with CTL is the location as it is pretty far from my room and I am very lazy. However, the importance of getting my paper checked out by someone who knows more than I do is highly valuable. I will continue to check out CTL in the future and have them help me with my papers.

FSEM/Journal Entry #2
Assignment #1a. The assignment that concerns me is a video project proposal for my Myths and Paradoxes/American Studies course. The assignment is coming up with a proposal for a final project due in the future. This proposal should be around two or three pages. The project is about a stereotype/myth that has affected my life greatly. It is about 8 pm at the moment, and I'm sitting in a cubicle in the corner of the library. My major concern with the project is coming up with a good stereotype for myself. I’m so stressed out about this because this will affect my final grade for the assignment and its  extremely hard to think of an adequate myth for myself. Furthermore, I feel so anxious because the professor also has not clarified the proper format and setting for the proposal. This assignment should take me about one and a half-two hours if I’m efficient with my time and stay on task. The resources that I need are a computer, notes from class, energy drinks, and advil because I have a headache. The learning environment that I need to be successful is a quiet place because of my tendency to be easily distracted. An encouraging, caring, and interesting environment would help me do well. I might struggle with coming up with a good stereotype about myself as well as finding the correct way to format the proposal. When I'm struggling, I take a break or go on a short walk to clear my mind. Additionally, I will contact my class members for help formatting as well as go to writing fellows for their approval.
Assignment 1b. My assignment is complete. The time is 10:47, this took longer than I expected to finish. I am still sitting in the third floor cubicle, I only got up to go to the bathroom and get a drink. Even though the project took longer than expected, I feel great about it. My work gives an insight into my life and will be a great start to a very important grade. It took longer than expected because it was difficult to get the ball rolling in the assignment. I correctly anticipated all the resources I needed for this assignment because it was more about individual thinking and less of hard research. I did not hit a wall while completing this assignment. I should have come up with an idea for the proposal beforehand to make the process easier for me. However, I was at home with kidney stones and pneumonia so I never really had the chance to get a jump on my work. My overall project I believe will be a great start for me. However, the only part of my process that I would change would be to not procrastinate and have to stay up.

Artist Statement
When I was a child my favorite activity was for my dog to pull my siblings and I around on a sleigh. My digital work is a distorted re-creation of a previous piece that showed my beloved family dog pulling us along. This work is a pack of wild dogs attacking and jumping at my family who just wants to play in the snow. The usage of transforming the background, adding multiple dogs, and key placement to certain objects gets the message of the piece across to the audience. The size, stature, and position of the dogs compared to the family shows the aggressive stance and characterizes the piece. These two works collectively can be taken in any way the spectators mind finds it suitable. There are obvious directions through the transformations, sizings, and placements that will guide the audience to come to their conclusion.

Connor Gunn Oliver Dyens/Sadness machine
Oliver Sacks, a neuropsychologist, explains the effects of brain damage because of leisins, deformities, and other cerebral illineses. He describes that people are not different because of their physical appearance rather because their portrayal of the world is completely different.  The reading talks about how people throughout the world rely on technology too much and the profound effects it has on our brains. Like we’ve discussed in class memories no matter how terrible or amazing they are, can be seen as our existence or substance to living. Art is the way we share and show our memories to the world. Technology is taking over memories because they are no longer personal or exclusive to us, they are fabricated and exploited as they mean less and less to us. Mankind as a whole is starting to delve deeper and deeper into a world of screens and technology where we are incapable of creating memories and ideas for ourselves. This leads to less and less of individual ideas and thinking as we rely on technology to share as well as create precious memories we should have experience without influence. This has gotten to the point where we are entirely lacking of memories like many of Oliver Sacks patients. Moreover, the world has different tastes, colors and realities that because of the effect of machines are becoming less and less unique to us over time.Like we have discussed regarding our memory in class, we are dependent on machines for our emotions as well. This has a major effect on our interpretation of the world. Therefore, it has a major influence on our art work and overall creativity.

Arts Campus

I was able to visit the arts campus today and it was an awesome experience! I thought the statues of the different heads were very unique and creative. My favorite part of visiting the very cool art campus was how beautiful and how organized the painting and sculptures were. When we first visited the campus for our scavenger hunt I remember that it was a work in progress with some of the art works, but still a great time nonetheless. The progress that the students and professors made in such a short time is incredible. Overall, The art gallery was beautiful and worth the walk. I will definitely be back in the future!
