I’ve talked about how I find the Invincible War incredibly frustrating because of its wasted emotional potential, but what’s possibly even more frustrating is how poorly written Angstrom’s plan is.

Remember — Angstrom’s main goal is that he wants to make Mark suffer. He’s not out to destroy or take over the world. He just wants to make Mark miserable. So, with that in mind… what the fuck is he thinking throughout ANY of the Invincible War? Why does he go out of his way to cause Mark pain in the least efficient way possible?

Let’s start with Angstrom’s little cameras spying on Mark throughout season 3. One would think that Angstrom watching Mark at his house and gathering information would have SOME sort of payoff. But there isn’t a single connection between Angstrom spying on Mark and Angstrom’s plan. We don’t see Angstrom passing any of that information on to any of the Marks, nor using it for himself. Debbie is somehow magically safe at Paul’s house, because the other Marks don’t know about Paul, but shouldn’t Angstrom? That would have been a good opportunity to make Angstrom’s spying relevant. But no.

With Angstrom’s spying it’s also implied that he is taking note of who Mark cares about the most. But this does not have a payoff either. There is no indication that Angstrom gave any of the Marks orders to target anyone specifically. When the other Marks do target the people Mark loves, it’s either for their own personal reasons or incidental. Wouldn’t it have been better for Angstrom to specifically order them to go after the people he’s seen Mark care about? When that one Mark fought Oliver, he could have had dialogue that indicated Angstrom told them about Oliver and to target him. When Mark and Eve fought against the alt!Marks, we could have seen them more deliberately go after Eve from the start because they’re “supposed to.” We could have even seen a Mark flying around the college campus, looking for William and Amber. Just SOMETHING to show that Angstrom is using this opportunity to try to also hurt Mark specifically and that his spying had some purpose.

Finally there’s the fact that if we throw all that away, say the spying doesn’t matter and that Angstrom only cared about destroying Mark’s reputation… why didn’t he have any of them actually dress up to look like Mark? There was zero attempt to trick anyone into actually believing that one of them could be the real Invincible. Yes in the beginning there was some confusion, but as soon as people realized there were multiple fake-Invincibles and only the one who was dressed like Invincible was helping, it stops being effective. There might be some discomfort especially now that people can see what Invincible is capable of doing — but it would have taken only a slight bit more effort to make them actually wonder if Invincible himself was one of the bad ones.

At the end of the day, Angstrom’s plan was essentially to spy on Mark for a couple months, not use any of that information for anything, go through the undoubtedly difficult effort of gathering a bunch of Evil Marks, have them destroy the world, and then use a bunch of robot balls to try to take on a guy who beat him into bloody mashed potatoes last time.

All of this… just so that people would have a more generally negative opinion of Invincible than before.

leave you questioning why you liked it and if its your fault and how you can ask for help

i love a man who genuinely cant tell the difference between a good fist fight and a good fuck. if it gets his heart pounding and makes the adrenaline gush through his veins, whats the difference?

there are a lot of things that make a good character vs a bad character, but i think pretty definitively it comes down to that characters ability to make you feel something strongly

kinship/rivalry, adoration/repulsion, envy/pity, desire/disgust, rage/joy, inspiration/hopelessness, comfort/discomfort, annoyance/excitement, powerful/anxious, frustration/fascination, fear/comfort

and any combination of the above (and surely others), especially including any oscillation along the spectrum as that character progresses along their arc

another aspect of a good character is one that drives you to expand and speculate and dive in and rip apart and create your own art. but even if you dont do that, the characters ability to change your emotional state is what brings out the life in them

conquest not only calls eve "kitten" when hes tearing her apart, but he calls her efforts "cute" and tells her how "pretty" she is after he deals his most lethal blow

had a really bizarre crossover dream last night between pretty little liars and invincible, where the invincible cast were playing the lying game

one of them was a killer and hunting down everyone else, and i cant remember who was who or why, but i DO remember the twist where it was revealed that one of them was actually an even worse killer than the original and started hunting the original DOWN and it was sooooo scary (in a really fun way, i knew it wasnt real, i dont think i was involved, just Watching)

woke up when the new killer was about to catch the old killer and it was sooo suspenseful and im super annoyed i didnt get to see the climax even tho i cant even remember who was who
