It was night, and Riku sat out by the docks, legs kicking absently over the waves as he regarded the raft that they’d been working on for the last couple days. 

There was a weight that had settled in when he’d overheard Kairi and Sora earlier, and the knot in his stomach couldn’t be undone, no matter how many times he told himself that Kairi had only been joking. 

That she - and perhaps Sora - wanted to leave without him. The indignation and betrayal swirled into a type of resentment that RIku didn’t know what to do with, and he leaned back on his palms, staring up at the night sky.
