For me it's like, there's a sickening feeling in your stomach and you get very still. It's a dull pain and your body gets very hot. You can't move or the feeling will go away and you don't want it to go away.
I bear absolutely no ill will against the term itself or people who use it but. I literally CANNOT say something gives me "whumperflies" bc for me it conjures up the mental image of someone seeing whump they like and smiling and giggling like a schoolgirl. and that just doesn't work for me bc when I see whump I like I do this

Okay since the post about death in whump is going around quite a lot and I'm seeing different statements in the comments, I am curious as to how the percentages balance out
For me personally, definition wise, the aftermath of a whump scene is not relevant to the whump part (the injury, or getting sick) before it. That's because I define whump as solely the hurt part in hurt/comfort. Even though I pretty much only consume whump content with a good ending, and vastly prefer it
I know that there's absolutely something to be said about how death of a character can be whump material for someone else, but in this case I'm just solely talking about the character the scene is about.
This poll also assumes that whatever happens before the death is an injury or illness of some kind, and the scene is not solely character dying.
Share around for a bigger reach!
#as i said before - death is the end of whump#this means that yeah there was whump until that point but the death cuts it off#like a tap being turned off#I'm going to enjoy it but I'm gonna be super upset if it's final

Don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion or whatever but if the whump leads to death then it isn’t whump anymore

Your character gets kidnapped but unusually they make them watch kid friendly films all day together. Meals eaten at a table. Make sure they have perfect manners, always say please, don't even dare think naughty thoughts, keep pure, keep sweet.

Yes I giffed this scene, but at what cost.

To celebrate the upcoming valentines day (and also the fact that there are now over 100 of you out there following me) I'm holding my first free YCH raffle for the whump community!
What's being raffled?
The finished art will be a greyscale rendered sketch of any two characters you want, in the poses seen above. Any body types, outfits, hair, etc. are fine. You can also:
customize the restraints and gag
add injuries/bruises/blood
change the expressions
make it NSFW
add speech bubble/s
Rules:
To enter, please reblog this post. That's all!
You don't have to be following me to enter (but I plan to do more of these, and I post cool whump stuff sometimes so, yknow, you could.)
The raffle will end on February 14th, and one winner will be drawn via a random name picker. The draw will happen around 4pm GMT (10am CST).
I will DM / send an ask to the winner to let them know they've won. They then have 24 hours to confirm, or I'll pick a new name.
[Optional] Add in your reblog tags what character/s you'd like to see in this precarious position!
Thanks as always for enjoying the stuff I post here. And good luck to everyone who enters! 🦎

Recent enough studies have shown that the previous idea of "learned helplessness" was actually backwards and that instead most beings are born with the assumption that they are helpless and learn that they have agency. Thus "learned helplessness" is better understood to be "relearned helplessness".

A character so exhausted/ill/out of it they're only able to be partially roused- still responsive enough not to be wholly unconscious but answering with only mumbles and the occasional groan to questions; eyelids that only briefly flutter open to reveal a hazy gaze beneath; able to drink and swallow but having to be coaxed through every sip; not entirely a deadweight to manipulate but able to offer only passive assistance to actually moving and unable to actively support themselves; needing to be constantly pestered and prodded while being cared for otherwise they'll slip back into a stupour.

You only spoke one language. Your captor only spoke another language you didn't speak. After time you learnt the language they spoke. Now you are free. Now you speak two languages but everytime you speak your second language it brings you back there. Every time you hear that other language, you think you've returned.
#You don't know if you should write your second language on your resume#whump prompt#writing prompt#whump
