I've just realised (and I really should've noticed sooner) that the reason I've been obsessed with SFTH for so much longer than literally anything else is the fact that they release 4 videos in a fortnight plus sometimes additional shorts, and one is a 20-40 minute play. We're blessed with so much new content so frequently that it's very difficult to become bored with them and leave this cult

I cannot explain why this obsession is so intense, however. Might just be the boys being awesome

I'm genuinely crying, The Case of Sergeant Sprinkles was the best longform I've seen so far, the entire thing was perfection.

Just- so many beautiful moments, such hilarity, so much heart...

Tom's Sergeant Sprinkles was beautiful and oh his speech was everything. That bit was probably one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen from him and that's saying a lot cos he's so good

I'd like to see the Caravan Hutch brothers meet the sisters from "My First Bra" and have a weird-off. ^ I wrote this just before they kissed and yay now we have two sets of weird incestuous siblings in longforms...? Both of which Tom is a part of?

Oh and now they're doing a touch of the mishearing/misunderstanding thing that the brothers do too

Ok this is infinitely worse than Bus and I'm glad AJ agrees too. His discomfort not just as a character but as a performer is so clear it's hilarious. His reactions to all the weird happening around him might be my favourite bit

On a side note Luke's song is very catchy

The fear radiating from AJ after his "physical interaction" with Sam is hysterical

It ending with a Merry Christmas message came out of nowhere and was very funny

In ConCLUsion: It had some really good and funny quotes ("Sorry where were we? Shapely." "No no no! I hated that so much!") but this is somehow the most uncomfortable they've ever made me so I probably won't be rewatching this one any time soon...

Burglary and Bobsledding

(Some of my favourite little moments)

the utter surprise with possibly feelings of betrayal from Tom as Luke starts speaking in a Swedish accent. He fully stops his mime and turns to look at him

the little dance Luke does at "two-man bobsleigh"

"you know, nobody else has ever thought of it. they always go for a bigger team" < no, they do have two-man bobsleighs

"one of us born and raised in Sweden, and the other one, meee!" < I adore that bit from Tom, and often find myself repeating that same intonation. You can also hear someone in the audience repeating "me!" just as Luke starts talking

[definitely not Swedish accent] < love the subtitles

Tom doubling over at AJ's "oh I'm a fucking pirate this is"! and Luke enjoying the mess he's caused and losing it when AJ wanders over to New York

"crafted in the Swedish mountains" "that's where we are now" "yes. it was made down the road"

"you flew! the both of you flew down, and because of the umbilical cord you pulled your mother down with ya! [waving his arms around] the three of you went down the mountain" < my absolute favourite bit. I burst out laughing every time

AJ's character has hair in this (he does the hair-blowing-in-the-wind mime)

"Helter, I want to address the fact that I called you Skelter earlier" < AJ is losing it at the side

"I can't wait for tomorrow" "I can't focus on tomorrow"

btw when you bobsleigh you sit down and bend forwards I think

ah I see their workshop door is open and that you can just bobsleigh out of it, which is a fun set-up

Tom killing himself off so he doesn't need to continue doing that accent. Luke clocking that, laughing, and then immediately getting into character and crying

I love Tom just continuing with the second verse of "Ave Maria". I also can't listen to "Ave Maria" anymore without hearing AJ's wailing siren + little laugh breaks in the background (from the Nun Wrangler flurry), and I get that lovely accompaniment whenever it's stuck in my head. also Tom can carry a tune. I know he gets a lot of hate for it from the boys, the subtitles, and himself, but he can sing! he might not be as good as Sam and AJ but it sounds good!

"Ham" was genius from Luke. also Luke says "second is for Norway" earlier on, so congrats to Germany for beating both to get first place

btw Sweden still use Krona

I don't think I've ever seen all performers on stage break as much as AJ and Luke did at "the Swedish House Mafia". I also didn't realise this was a band until I saw an edit a while back. I thought the whole "listening to their tunes" was metaphorical, and the "has it been rhythmic?" later on was in reference to the Swedish accent...

"but I know these mountains like the back of my hand" < they usually do bobsleighs down tracks, so that probably won't be very helpful. also random tangent but I never understood the phrase "like the back of my hand". dunno about anyone else but I don't particularly know mine very well

both of them saying the "it's weird doing it with two hands" joke

"you did a little push, and I kinda thought "you're gonna push them, you're a joker!" and I did a little murder. Because you're all about fun, and I'm all about-" "murder" "results" < such a good sibling dynamic

love the little side glance AJ does to Tom after saying "now you can see her", as he probably remembered Luke just saying "she is a true beauty"

btw empty two-man bobsleighs weigh a minimum of 170kg, so the Swedish father-son duo are very strong. also the heavier the bobsleigh, the faster it goes. though it's easier to push at the start if it's lighter

"they have press releases" < love you Tom you're hilarious

"the camper the German, the more likely they are to win" + strike pose

"oh by the way, inside is a recorded message. I realise it could be hard to- Yep!"

"Andre Beetroot in the house!" < thank you Tom for fuelling the Andre Beetroot time traveller theory! and AJ is so good at these television host-type characters!

btw bobsleighs don't have steering wheels, but they do have two steering handles (one for each hand) that they can pull to steer

Helter Skelter's story is so tragic. all three of his close family members died on that mountain... (the mother probably died when she went down the mountain after giving birth if she's still got the umbilical cords)

"well now, what seems to be the problem here?" < I adore Tom's Irish accent (I'm useless at accents and have no clue if it's accurate, but it's very melodious to the ears)

In The Lighthouse, Sam says: "I think we bullied him [AJ] a lot today"

And yes, maybe they did, given that the following moments also seem to be from the same day:

"There's been a breachment. For anyone who mostly speaks Spanish, that's not a word."

"It's a dead bald man. A nun's favourite prey. He escaped the burns earlier, so he gets the bald jokes"

"A second dead bald man!"

"How will you be powerful when bathed in holy light?" [polishes AJ's head]

Also, "You're half the man my father said I deserve", which turned out to make sense in context but initially seemed very random

The Enigma of the High Visionary

(Some of my favourite little moments)

strong blocking choice from AJ to start (Long John's - Strike! flashbacks)

"raise your hands in the air, and start to wave them like you just don't care" < made me burst out laughing. just- the complete change in tone

"there's nothing weird about it" < AJ is so good at deadpanning hilarious lines

Sam's smile after Tom says "ever since we all moved here to Shropshire"

"in a peaceful way" giving "for the greater good" vibes (from Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz)

"when you came here, two years ago, I thought "My god, two little pathetic human beings" < what a thought

I thought Luke had shrunk massively when he sweeped the first scene and my brain froze for a bit

"no, you can't go and see your father, because he's joined a fucking cult" < strong opening line from Luke

and absolutely adorable child character incoming from Sam

[incredulous original Thomas] < loved the subtitles there

"my art teacher said I have High Vision" < so... the art teacher is/was/will be part of the cult?

I love the cute cat face Sam does and then the three little claps that are so at odds with this high functioning brain of his but then you remember he's only 5

AJ's cult recruiter character is so cute and feels like the gambling addict Franklin ("which is why I brought us heeerre")

"some were naked, some were not" < gonna be repeating that for a bit

Sam mimes washing up, but it looks like he's filling beer (he does the mime they do where you pull the tap handle downwards). Most taps handles usually aren't above the sprout/nozzle, and those that are tend to be screw tops or handles that you lift upwards

love the really long [calculating...] followed by the wrong number

"it's okay, you can think of one now" < hmm, almost like they're doing improv (only light jesting, I just find it funny that that's where he panicked)

Sam, AJ, and Luke's reaction to Tom's "so you've seen through my disguise"

"so you gave him my name. I reme- I was here for that, yes. But at the time, I didn't know that's what you were doing" < wh-what? Understandable reactions following this from Luke and AJ, because how do you not realise that your son was named after you for three years? What had Thomas the elder been calling his son? Maybe he shouldn't've been given joint custody...?

"enjoying your clothes are we?" "he won't let me take them off?" < why is he so eager to get naked?

"I can see outside the window"

"put some clothes on" < absolute power move from Sam there

"you meant something to me" < aww

really messed up, but very clever plan from AJ there as the High Visionary (clever plan for the cult, not specifically in a narrative context). If Thomas the younger miraculously stops the bullet, then yay, he's got The Visionary Power. But when he inevitably doesn't, he can blame the child's lack of power for the murder, and get rid of something that may collapse his cult empire

"you're just a naked dickhead" is quite a line

Thomas the younger copying his dad's dismantling and throwing of the gun feels very much like the dad-son duo in The Cardboard Stegosaurus

"people are so desperate in this world to think that their lives mean something when actually we just live on a giant rock that flies through space. There's no meaning to life apart from the meaning you oppose to it" < both insightful but depressing and I had the exact same reaction as Tom ("before you remind me why I left")

"stop talking" and wailing face as the High Visionary has an existential crisis is amazing. I know Luke's always referred to as the best actor of the group, but I think AJ's a close second, if not a tie. His ability to act in the background/on the side - and particularly his facial expressions e.g. side eyeing - feel very suited to television especially. (This wasn't a random thought I had whilst watching this longform by the way, but something I've thought is true for a while now. Though he was especially good in this longform I think. AJ's acting needs to get the recognition it deserves!)

aww the way Thomas the elder's face fell from excitement to disappointment when he realised his ex-wife wasn't calling for him ("oh, him. Okay"). To be fair he hadn't been the best husband or dad, but still, the abrupt stop to the cute little handwave when he heard his name was painful

"your words, they cut, into my heart. We're just spinning on a rock" < AJ there re-enacting my weekly existential crises-

"you're made of stars!" < ahh so that's (another reason) why AJ's transparent and starry in the thumbnail

"High Visionary- Dillon" < so this either means Thomas the elder either knew him beforehand, or they're actually quite close if he's shared his actual name with him

I enjoyed this longform, and I enjoyed it even more having read @i-dont-know-how-this-site-works' amazing post explaining the Star Wars references (thank you!)

I tend to repeat songs when I need to really concentrate, and today it's Achilles Come Down, which at 180bpm lines perfectly with my clock. It's both comforting and ominous.

Cardboard Stegosaurus Headcanon: after his wife's death, Cliff would sit at his desk for hours listening to this song on repeat, wondering if there was anything he could've done to keep his wife from shuffling off this mortal coil-
