Sometimes I think about Kate giving away her mother’s bangles (the only thing of her mother’s that she has left) and doing so with genuine love, and feel myself shatter inside a little bit

Because she somehow managed to save that little bit, even after giving away her dowry and selling everything she could manage to

Through all of that, she held on to them

But then, she gives up even that

She fully planned on going back to India after that, with absolutely nothing,

Not her family, and not even a reminder of them, completely alone

Sometimes I think about how Anthony wanted a marriage without love because of the way his mother loves,

Because he was terrified of someone loving him the way his mother loved his father

Then, he falls in love with Kate and it turns out that he loves in exactly the same way as his mother

I actually love Anthony Bridgerton’s “I will humble myself before you” speech because it’s not only the perfect culmination of Anthony’s character arc throughout season 2 but also of Kate’s.

Throughout the season, we see Kate as someone who believes that she has to earn the love in her relationships. She believes that if scrapes and begs and borrows to keep her family afloat, then she can earn her place with Mary and Edwina. If she pleads with the Sheffields even at the cost of her own pride to make sure Mary and Edwina are taken care of, then she can continue to earn her family’s love. Kate is so used to sacrificing everything she has and then going even beyond that, to earn her place in her personal relationships.

And then here comes Anthony with his “You do not have to accept it or embrace it or even allow it”.

His love is freely given, without even the expectation of acknowledgment, right from the moment he confesses it to Kate. So right from the very beginning, Kate knows, and not just in an abstract sense but from his actual words, that she does not need to earn his love, it’s hers because of who she is, not because of what she can do for him.

This man that she did not concede an inch to, where she’s used to hacking away at herself in an attempt to earn love, simply loves her. He loves her even if she has nothing to give, not even an acknowledgment of his confession.

Then when he proposes all he asks of her is her presence in his life. That’s all he expects from her.

“I will humble myself before you” was the lesson Anthony’s proud ass needed to learn, but it was also the lesson Kate needed. That she’s worthy of receiving and not just to give and keep giving and give some more.

And I absolutely love that this is the beginning of her marriage. A relationship that starts with her knowing in the most absolute sense that she does not have to earn her place in it.

You ever think about how this is probably the first time in a very long time, since her dad died, that Kate got to be carefree and silly and play games?

Got to reclaim a little bit of the childhood she lost to grief and the parental responsibilities of raising her sister and holding her family together?

No wonder she was so playful and happy, it was probably the first time in years she got to do something fun, not directly related to ensuring the survival of her family

Ok in the time i sent that ask i had seen the announcement w/ her incorrect name but i just read that twitter thread and im like… genuinely so sad. The level of disrespect is heartbreaking and not even just the fact they have the most chemistry compared to the other couples or that their roles as the LITERAL heads of the family MAKE THEM central characters even if the season isnt their ship its just disrespecting to her fucking humanity. Its not one tiny mistake again and again and again. Like youre gonna make it a point to make the show diverse and treat your ONE DARKSKIN FEMALE LOVE INTEREST LIKE SHIT 😭 and the way the writers wrote s3 i now feel like they were trying to write them out of the show now and not just being lazy about the logistics of that with how pregnant she was and how out of character it would be for Kate and anthony SPECIFICALLY to get on a BOAT in the 1800s when shes pregnant to begin with for months on end. I just hope we see more of them they are my favorite part of the show and I’m clinically addicted to s2 (i only started watching in 2024 for Nicola bc i love Derry Girls, but i have since watched s2 5 times) i really think they put crack in it, but I’m also married to her rn as an actress and committed to watching whatever it is i can of her that i can find.

Sorry it took me a while to get to this. I was a little nervous to share that thread because when I shared it a ton of people from the fandom were minimising or excusing the very clear pattern of what is really outright and indefensible discrimination with excuses like “this is an overreach, it’s not like she was called a slur” and many other choice gems like that. It was very disheartening to witness.

But, I’m glad I shared the thread because it ended up making a lot of people, fans and casual viewers alike, aware of things they did not know about previously.

And I’m also especially glad that it made you more determined to support Simone. Because, Simone coming out thriving with many more well wishers on her side is the best possible outcome.

Some times I think about how Kate left in the middle of a party that had a total of like 12 guests present and didn’t return home for an entire night and Mary and Edwina didn’t even notice???

The party in 2x07 was at the Bridgerton house and Kate spends the night with Anthony in the gazebo there
