Happy #NoShameDay
Hi, my name is hope, i turned 16 yesterday (April 16) I’m posting this because i wanted to face my fear: sharing my disabilities on the Internet.
I was born with two defects: profound deafness (hearing loss), & ectrodactyly (missing or fused fingers/toes) the deafness is in my genes. However ectrodactyly isn’t. I’m the only person in my whole family that has ectrodactyly. Doctors aren’t sure what caused my condition.
My story: I was born with three fingers on each hand, two toes on each foot. When I was around 2-3 years old, I got the big toes on both of my feet removed because they were too big & uncomfortable. As i was growing up, i was bullied so much (verbally) because of my condition. I even got threatened to be beat up. I grew up in a public school as the only deaf kid in school, I had no friends there. It was tough. I was afraid to wear open-toed shoes in public because people would mock me, give me dirty faces, etc, that made me so upset! I was also scared to show my hands in public because of the same reason. When I was 10 years old, I enrolled in a deaf school, I felt so much better there because students didn’t bully me, a couple of students even had the same condition as me! But sometimes I get scared when I go out in public but that’s ok, I can face my fears.
I’m now 16, and I don’t give a fuck what people think of me! I’m proud to be deaf & to have ectrodactyly, these make me unique (:
