So, years ago I used to have a hamster. We got it from a young student who seemed nice, I don't think she mistreated the hamster at all, but she just couldn't look after it anymore for some reason and had to let it go so we took it in. I was pretty young and scared of being bitten, because the moment we got it I put my finger in the cage like an idiot and got bitten. Back then I expected having a rodent pet would be something like Doris the rat in home alone 3, friendly and affectionate, but while I knew that was a movie, I was surprised to see it was the opposite. I was nervous to handle it, but I still tried a lot and turns out it was much more scared of me and would constantly try to escape being picked up. We cleaned it's cage and looked after it, but since the start it just looked really depressed. It wasn't interested in exploring any kinda hamster tubes or running on a hamster wheel, which is fair enough, I probably couldn't be bothered to either, but it really didn't look happy at all. Eventually it took all the straw to its hut and just spent all it's time there without coming out. I'm sure not all hamsters are the same, but why was this the case? Was it because the change of owners, do pets need to be brought up from a baby to bond with an owner? What would be a good small rodent pet that doesn't need other rodents with it and would be a good friend? submitted by /u/nicholas-shrive [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/nrct7j/rodent_pet_question/

The photos that surface on the Internet showing the adorable bond between little kids and their pet cats and dogs are always a delight to look at. This set of photos posted on Reddit show a similarly wholesome bond between a baby girl and her family dog. The photos show the duo sharing the cutest bond ever, be it while hugging each other as they sleep or touching foreheads with each other to help with some more bonding. https://www.hindustantimes.com/trending/little-girl-and-her-pet-doggo-s-sweet-bond-makes-reddit-go-aww-see-pics-101641129235755.html https://www.hindustantimes.com/trending/little-girl-and-her-pet-doggo-s-sweet-bond-makes-reddit-go-aww-see-pics-101641129235755.html

Can dogs eat molasses? Many dog owners often inquire if dogs can eat molasses. The short answer is yes. Molasses is a by-product obtained from the sugar cane and wood cellulose found in wood mulch. It is regarded as a natural sweetening and dietary supplement for pets. Some people question whether dog owners should feed their pets wood chips or molasses, wondering if it is unhealthy for the animal. The answer depends upon how you fed the dog previously and the number of nutrients provided. First of all, the health benefits to your canine are well worth feeding your pet… The post Can Dogs Eat Molasses? I always keep seeing that one article being referenced about dogs having on average more neurons than cats, but a larger neuron count doesn't automatically mean more intelligence yet that article is always hailed as the hard truth and "oh science has spoken". I don't know why this bothers me so much but it does lol, like I don't care either way but I feel like the question is way more nuanced. A big part of why dogs are seen as more intelligent is trainability, but it's already well known that cats aren't as cooperative as dogs in pretty much anything so I don't know where we reached the conclusion that they don't want to cooperate because they're mentally incapable of learning like dogs do, or they just don't bother and aren't incentivised to learn since they haven't been domesticated for as long of a period. I also feel like a cat is a lot more curious than a dog about the world, and that leads them to be exposed to more stimuli that makes them better problem solvers, aside from also being way more independent as a species, while dogs are so reliant on us that they can't do much of anything unless we train them to. I don't know why tf I'm posting this but I'm sleep deprived and overthinking the whole thing submitted by /u/GoodForALLOfYou [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/ngw2md/how_exactly_are_dogs_smarter_than_cats/

Hi all! I was laughing with my dad about this story just now so I thought I’d share it to Reddit! So for context, I have a now 10-year-old Siberian Husky named Juno. She’s an absolute sweetheart, but like many dogs, she gets into trouble every so often. This is a story from about 7 years ago, when she was around 3 or so. I’ve honestly since forgotten exactly when this took place. When Juno was old enough, we trained her on an electric fence, as our neighborhood didn’t allow full fences around our property. Anyways, every so often, she would get loose. Unfortunately, one of those days, she got into the woods. My parents ran into the woods to look for her, while my brother (M16, at the time) and I (F13, at the time) were still inside eating dinner. After we finished out food, our parents were still out in our woods calling for the dog, so my brother went out to help them. I could hear them calling, “Juno! Juno!!” I really didn’t want to go out, since it was pretty bad weather, but eventually, I decided to go out to help them. As I was walking out, I could still hear my family in the woods calling for my dog. As I passed between the property line of my and my neighbors’ property, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I looked over at our neighbor’s porch……and there was Juno, happy as a husky could be. She had been watching and listening to my family calling for her, and my mom almost in tears at the thought of losing our dog. But, there she was, sitting on our neighbor’s porch, staring at me. Immediately I got her in the house and cleaned her up, not before telling my parents though. We had a good laugh about it, and it is something that still brings a smile to my face. submitted by /u/PaigePanda25 [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/nkjdjh/the_time_my_dog_decided_to_not_listen_to_us/

My complex is very pet friendly offering dog parks and walking trails. There is a pet rent and pet deposit that is required though. My family dog, she’s 9 so she’s an older calm dog, and i are very close . moving away for college has been hard i miss having my pup around. My parents said it was okay if i brought her home for a few days and i’m wondering if this is something my leasing office needs to know about? She doesn’t bark so i know that’s not an issue and i dont have to worry about puppy fiascos with her chewing things that could cause damages. I’d love to hear some thoughts and if anyone works for an apartment complex or has any insight on this situation i would love to hear! I just signed my fourth year lease here and they are very nice at the leasing office but if it’s a $500 pet deposit and $30 pet rent to keep my dog for a few days i dont think I’d be up for that. submitted by /u/Working-Restaurant69 [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/nj2ng2/dog_sitting_at_apartment/

My vet says that it's very important to clean my dogs ear because if not, there might be a ear infection. However, I try my very hardest to clean his ear but he refuses to. He does not like his ear being cleaned at all. I use a cotton swab (for pets) to clean his ear. I've already tried distracting him with treats and kongs, but he still would get mad and scared when I do try to clean his ear. Thank you. submitted by /u/brycejorrell [link] [comments] https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/nrfain/any_tips_for_cleaning_my_dogs_ear/
