a lot of the knight blogs i follow have scenarios of seeing a knight's face for the first time or otherwise having their face exposed as an act of intimacy and like. i see the vision. you keep doing you. but also. to me the appeal is not knowing what is under the mask. the face could be anything or nothing. the helm is the face. the metal is the flesh. it's something you can recognize as human and yet it's still inhuman. the act of intimacy is not knowing but more importantly not needing to know what's beneath. do you see the vision

the most annoying people are people who don't understand storytelling. they be like "oooo how convenient that this thing happened to the main character in the very beginning". yeah no shit. that's why the story begins here
#people talking about things being 'unrealistically improbable' and that's it. that's their whole critique#like yeah I think most stories are about things that are improbable to an unrealistic degree but they had to happen to SOMEONE#and of course it's often brought up about female characters or characters of colour lol (and especially disabled characters)#then the threshold for 'unrealistically improbable' is just 'knowing a thing' or 'having a skill'#and of course eternal classic 'being two (or more) things at once'#anyway cinemasins has so much to answer for culturally#some people really do approach fiction as if the protagonist has to be chosen randomly. through some kind of lottery#(and therefore also has to conveniently adhere to what they erroneously believe to be the majority ie straight white and usually male)#so they're like Oh what are the chances this plot would happen to THIS character#who I believe is such an improbable minority I doubt they even exist irl????'#uhh 100% because this is a story. stories are intentional and have meaning and also because many of those people do in fact exist#and also because even if they were the only one like them on the planet they have the same chance as anyone else lol
