I don't think anyone who is broaching the sentiment that "AI exploits labor" is under the impression that AI is the only thing that uses labor unethically. I don't think anyone who tries to tackle the idea that AI is a scourge on the environment is under the impression that everything else they do does not contribute to environmental decline. I think people who try to touch on these concerns are very often open to making choices and changing their lifestyles in ways that limit their need for unnecessary expenditures of energy and labor exploitation. You can talk about the efficacy of that or meander on about how none of your piss makes headway in an ocean, but what you are really telling me is you are interested in doing nothing and changing nothing. Because despite people being engaged in ideas combating of labor exploitation and preserving the environment, you see no point in encouraging that because a new flashy toy in an ecosystem overflowing with more stimuli than you could ever ask for is too appealing to you. And I'm telling you to fuck off.

Sometimes I'm baffled by how some people will turn to A/I for the simplest most google-able questions. Then I remember how often people on reddit or even here will just start asking you intense and specific follow-up advice to some banal offhanded comment you made like you are their sole possible source of information, and expect you to answer them as if you're a professional in that field when they have no reason to trust what you're saying is correct and I realise oh. Lots of people are actually just floating through life like specks on the wind and will literally turn to the closest warm (or robot) body and 1) expect them to do all their thinking for them, unpaid and unprompted, and 2) just accept everything they said is true and correct and in good faith

here's a funny conversation topic i had a with a friend: if you're over the age of 25, when's the last time you really *ran* in a panic (like you were late, chasing after something, etc. things like a marathon don't count!) and what was it for?

And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…

Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.

He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
