      a  hundred  years  had  past  &  yet,  it  felt  like  it  had  only  been  an  eight  hour  sleep.  he  still  couldn’t  believe  it,  that  they’ve  been  in  space  for  a  century.   they’ve  been  asleep  for  a  century,  he  kept  having  to  remind  himself  in  his  head  to  get  the  info  to  stick.  all  they’ve  ever  known  was  earth &  space  but  now,  now  they’re  on  a  whole  different  planet.   anxiety  pulses  through  him  at  thought  of  having  to  start  over  —  again.   however,  stefan’s  thankful  that  he  has  betty  with  him  in  this,  that  he  can  explore  this  planet,  this  new  life,  with her.  blue -  grey  eyes  find  the  blonde  in  the  sea  of  the  skaikru  &  it  only  takes  him  a  few  seconds  to  get  over  to  her.  long  arms  immediately  wrap  around  her  waist,  a  grin  of  his  own  tugging  onto  his  lips  to  match  hers.  “  i  know,  right ?almost  feels  too  good  to  be  true. ”  the  brunette  hums,  leaning  forward  to  kiss  her  temple.  “  it’s  about  time,  i  mean  it’s  been  a  hundred  years. ”  stefan  teases,  hand  on  her  back  pushing  her  slightly  closer. 

                   she practically melts into his arms, whatever anxiety she still has running through her veins ebbs away almost immediately.     no words could describe how safe and at ease betty felt in stefan’s presence.          “     don’t jinx it.     ”         she teases, eyes fluttering closed at the feel of his lips on her skin.     head falls back a moment later, blonde hair falling loose over her shoulders.     betty has been wearing her head down since they’d landed, being in a new place inspired her to try something new.     in fact, she was contemplating cutting a few inches off.     the weather in sanctum was hotter and drier than what she was used to, and she had a feeling she’d quite enjoy having shorter hair, not to mention it was easier to take care of.     betty can’t help but laugh at his words, stretching onto her toes to press a quick kiss to his lips.          “     longest engagement ever.     ”

                   betty was still wrapping her mind around the not so tiny fact over a hundred years had passed since they’d gone into cryosleep.     earth wasn’t coming back, and, because of that, they’d travelled through space until they reached their destination.     sanctum.     the blonde watched people walk around, the hustle and bustle of the compound reminding her of arkadia.     she feels a pang of nostalgia and presses her lips into a thin line, blinking back tears that sprung to her eyes whenever she thought about her life before praimfaya.     shuffling behind her pull betty out of her thoughts and she glances over her shoulder, a bright smile easing its way onto her lips as soon as her eyes meet stefan’s.          “     i still can’t believe this place is real.     ”         she says with a chuckle, turning around to face him and wrapping her arms around his neck once he’s within reach.          “     i guess this mean we can finally get married.     ”

                   her sneakers squeak against the wooden floor but, thankfully, the door doesn’t creak when she opens it just enough to slip inside the boarding house.     cheer practice had finished earlier thanks to her coach having a family emergency, and betty decided to go straight to stefan’s instead of stopping at home first.     a quick glance around the living room and she concludes neither her boyfriend nor his brother are there, sipping on bourbon even though it’s still 4:15 in the afternoon.     she’s about to head upstairs to check stefan’s room when noises from the kitchen catch her attention.     betty makes her way over, keeping her footsteps light and ears peeled for other noises.      the door to the basement is open and, even from where she’s standing at the threshold, she can tell that’s where the noises are coming from.     the blonde slowly creeps down the stairs, letting her eyes adjust to the dimness of the ambient.     a smile curls at her lips upon noticing stefan rummaging through a freezer and she approaches him without a second thought, hand resting on his shoulder to grab his attention.          “     hey yourself, i was wondering whe—     ”         the rest of betty’s words get caught in her throat as she finally catches a glance of stefan’s face.     she jerks her hand away as if she’s been burnt, stumbling backwards until her back hits the cold brick wall.     her eyes dart from his eyes and then down to his hand.     his eyes are black, veins appearing underneath them.     and the blood.     so much blood.     dripping down his chin, coating his hands and staining his shirt.     her stomach churns and her head spins, but by some miracle she manages to stutter out a faint,          “     s-stefan?     ”
