He doesn't have the heart to tell you right away, not when he sees your chest puffed out with pride when you place another letter in his room, a mission successful in your eyes. Instead, he focuses on noticing the little details he'd never seemed to pick up on initially. You had it bad for him, huh?

-> Curly teases you about it. He never mentions them directly, but he will often exaggerate his behaviours to the most recent letter he read. You mentioned how tall he was. He's sure to flaunt it off more.

Since when were things in this kitchen placed so high?

You sighed to yourself, stretching to try and grab some simple condiment packets you swore were placed on the countertop the last time you saw them. Luckily for you, Curly walks in at the perfect moment. When you ask for help, he gives a confident grin as he nods, stepping towards you. As expected of him.

What you didn't expect was the warm hand he placed on your hip or the way his chest pressed into your back as he grabbed exactly what you were asking for, the steady thrum of his heartbeat only making yours speed up. You're left red-faced and stuttering, nervous hands taking the packets out of his larger one.

"You're all red. If you're not feeling well, you should take a visit to Anya. I can walk you there."

JIMMY:

It excites him to think about how much you try to learn about him. Do you know his routine by heart? What about his likes and dislikes? Better yet, were you trying to mould yourself into the perfect partner for him (although this seems more of a dream on his part than a genuine question...)? He gets a sick kick out of it.

It's hard on board, but your letters become a routine that she looks forward to. I think she's one of the only characters who would tell you she knows, feeling guilty about leaving you in the dark about something that could embarrass you. However, she'd never ask you to stop. Anya gushes about how much she appreciates every single letter, keeping them and re-reading them when she can and she tells you how she figured it out, giggling when you stare at her like you're begging for the floor to swallow you whole.

-> Anya makes it a priority to keep you happy. Your letters do so much for her, she only wants you to feel the same. You'll find her lingering around you more, offering hugs or a shoulder to lean on whenever possible. If you're especially tired, she'll help finish your work with you. Another set of hands would always help.

-> She begins to write small compliments on her Post-it notes, leaving them in places you frequent. If you have tools you use, she places a note talking about how hardworking you are on there. Otherwise, you begin to find small notes in your room. It becomes a ritual between the both of you, sending each other letters when you can. She just wants you to know how loved you are.

DAISUKE:

-> Whenever he feels especially sad, he re-reads the letters. Even if he might feel useless at times, that he doesn't have a plan for his future, he does have the assurance that you'll be there by his side. You're a great person. If you can find all these amazing things about him then... He's sure he can make something great of himself.

SWANSEA:

JIMMY:

-> Hates it at first. It's obnoxious, loud, and only makes you look intimidating. Pretty girls like you should be dolled up but only in the way he deems appropriate.

-> He's... Weirdly envious. Not at the clothes you wear (although being able to afford a style like that seems like an unneeded expense) but more so at what it means. You don't care for others' opinions, wearing what you like because it makes you happy. No matter how much he wants to deny it, Jimmy thrives off the opinions of others. He looks like an everyman. The most average man you could conceive of. Not like anyone important. How could you stand out next to him? You look like someone worth remembering and it pisses him off.

-> If you're in a relationship, I could see him warming up to it. He'd still prefer it if you didn't wear it but if it makes you happy... Plus, having a cute girl like you on his arm is certainly an ego booster. He buys you a skirt or two, smirking when you notice its shortness compared to your usual ones.

"What? Don't like it? I thought this sorta thing was up your alleyway? You'd look sexy in it anyway, doll."

SWANSEA:

"This isn't one of those fads, is it?"

-> Swansea can only sigh. This isn't his first rodeo with self-expression. His kids have done it all, including driving him up the wall as they explore their identity through their fashion. It doesn't make him any less confused, unfortunately.

-> It's more... out there than he was expecting. It's not one he's seen before. Rather than researching in his own time, he'd much prefer to get a first-hand account of it all. He asks questions in that fatherly way. It seems like he's judging but he is genuinely curious.

-> He doesn't think he could ever wrap his head around it but that doesn't mean he won't support you. Instead of buying you clothes, he'll pay for your nail appointments, muttering how "you kids are always runnin' me dry."

-> For all his grumbles, seeing you happy is his #1 priority, and the grin on your face when you show him your outfit is enough to make it all worth it.

[A/N]: This is so sweet! Thank you! (/▿＼ ) I didn't realise there was such a drought..!! Daisuke is one of the characters I struggle with writing, but I tried my best! I'll keep writing for him, for practice! ᕦ(˵•̀ᴥ•́˵)ᕤ

DAISUKE:

-> With Daisuke having such a boisterous personality, people would assume it would be hard for him to get along with someone so shy. Yet, it works out perfectly! You balance each other out, Daisuke becoming your voice when you don't feel able to speak up, and you becoming his leash for when his antics become too much for the rest of the crew.

-> During your first days on the Tulpar, you found yourself accustomed to the different personalities on the ship, including Daisuke. He found you to be the most interesting on the ship, although your skittish nature made it hard for him to connect with you. He grinned, creating a mission for himself. He would become your friend, no matter how shy you were!

-> Daisuke is a naturally clingy guy, a total sucker for any kind of physical touch. One morning, he slings his arm over your shoulder, pulling you in for a friendly conversation. He doesn't miss the way your pretty eyes don't quite meet his or the way you fidget with whatever your hands can grab onto. It captivates him. Was the lounge always this small, or was it just his proximity to you making the world seem so lacklustre in comparison?

-> He whines to Swansea, begging him for advice, pleading with puppy eyes for some tips on how to break through your shyness. All he gets in response is a whack on the head with a rough command to get back to work without his head in the clouds. If you're close to any of the other characters, he clumsily attempts to interrogate them, asking how they got you so comfortable around them.

-> Your shyness isn't bad! He just wants to get to know you, so he tries to break through initially. He's happy for you to stay reserved, so long as you spend time with him! If anything, he finds it cute. The way you stumble over your words, fidget with your clothes and blush when he does anything too forward. It gives him cuteness aggression. He wants to squish your cheeks together and litter kisses all over, eyes glistening with mirth as he feels you flounder under his touch.

-> Daisuke is a man of quality time. Whenever Swansea bats him away from work, you're the person he goes running to. Entwines his hand into yours while talking into your ear, rubbing soft circles into the back of your hand, the cold metal of his rings pressed into your palm as you walk laps around the ship. Nights on the Tulpar are spent coddled up in his room, Daisuke playing on his Game Boy as you watch, a pout on his face as he passes it over for your turn once he dies. He hugs you from behind, eyes focused on the small device... His heart still leaps at the way your breath hitched at how close he was, feeling his breath along your neck.

-> You're not one to talk much? Then, you're perfect at keeping secrets! He'll drag you along as he grows his ever-expanding sweetener collection. You're sat on the kitchen counter, keeping guard as Daisuke presses numbers into the machine with a giggle. These heists are way more fun with you by his side.

-> You'd be silly to think he wasn't awkward, either. Catch him slacking on work or caught in a mess of his own making, and you'll watch as Daisuke chuckles nervously, a pretty flush rising to his cheeks as he tries to play it cool. You dig that, right?

"Fancy seeing you here! Uh— Don't mind the mess! I got my work cut out for me."

Daisuke stumbles over his words, suavely leaning on the doorframe to the utility room, trying to cover the absolute carnage behind him. You didn't need to see the mess strewn across the floor, papers and tools spread in every which way. As he opens his mouth to speak again, he's cut off with a yell from Swansea. You feel the weight of a hand placed on your shoulder with a nervous chuckle, the man giving you a dorky, lopsided grin.

"Work calls. I'll see you in my room later... Right? Notlikethatunlessyouwantittobebut— ack! You know what I mean!"

He can't save himself, but he can always run, delaying having to hear your response for a few hours. Just enough time to bring his composure back. He gives you a nod and runs back into the utility, leaving you alone to wonder what the hell just happened.

-> You become a place of refuge for him. As much as he smiles, Daisuke knows he can't always keep it up. His worries for his future and family build up gradually, creating a weight that seats itself into his chest uncomfortably. Your shy nature allows him to feel safe, creating a soft atmosphere he could just melt into, rather than facing the roughness of everyday life. It lifts his worries if only for a moment. He talks to you about his future, hoping you can lend an ear. Of course, he'll do the same for you! Rest your head in his lap as you talk about your issues, and he'll happily listen, offering advice when he can, but more importantly, keeping you happy. You're a rare treasure, after all.

-> Platonic or romantic, you're a killer duo! He wouldn't trade your relationship for the world!

(PRE-CRASH) CAPTAIN CURLY:

-> #1 wife guy. He'd go giddy if you got him a mug about how much he loves you (or anything of the sort). He would love to match with you. He'd have a pair of matching pyjamas at home and a set of matching keychains attached to his keys. Has a picture of you both from a date you went on before working on the Tulpar in his leather wallet. He keeps it on him at all times and stares at it when he feels especially bad.

-> Jimmy rolls his eyes and sinks back into his chair when he watches Curly look at the picture like a man who's been at war for a decade.

-> Anya can only giggle when she glances at the two of you in the kitchen before your shifts start, voices hushed as Curly presses a soft kiss to your forehead before the day starts.

-> Swansea grumbles whenever he sees you two getting overly affectionate, you leaning against Curly during a heated game night aboard the ship. His demeanor changes when he notices the familiar glimmer of adoration in Curly's eyes, reminding him of how he felt about his wife back on Earth. At least you two didn't have to deal with long-distance dating.

-> Daisuke hopes to have a relationship like yours! He playfully banters with Curly, asking how he pulled someone like you. Wants to hear everything about your relationship. Treats you two like his pseudo-parents, giving you a sneaky wink whenever he steals another sweetener packet, a shared promise not to tell Curly.

-> Much more affectionate in private. He still needs to play captain, after all. Professionalism is important in the workplace! He's the type to play soft music in the background while you both relax, holding each other under thin blankets as he places gentle kisses on any part of you he can reach, stubble tickling your skin. He loves to hold your hand in any way but enjoys more subtle touches (like locking pinkies together). When walking with you in the dim halls, he places a gentle hand on the small of your back to let you know he's there.

-> However, his idea of love causes him to be more reserved when it comes to his problems. He does trust you! He just doesn't want to sag you down with his issues. He's the Captain. He should be strong enough to handle his burdens. You'd have to comfort him and remind him that it's okay to talk it through. Your willingness to help him only makes his love deeper.

-> A huge sap for the cheesy and romantic. Surprise him with breakfast in bed, and he's pondering whether to marry you now or after he finishes eating. Dreams of your future together, too. A small family in a quaint, little home with friendly neighbours. Don't want kids? How about some pets to keep you company?

-> Loves to tease you. He wants to see you smile, especially because of him. Expect feather-light touches on your waist that make you shiver, followed by a deep chuckle at your reaction. He leaves his post early (relying on his co-pilot and Tulpar's autopilot system to pick up his slack) to visit you, ensuring you're "doing your tasks correctly." Not to see you jump at his voice or when he places his large hand on your shoulder. Not at all!

(POST-CRASH) CAPTAIN CURLY:

-> He's sorry. He's so, so, sorry.

-> Initially, the pain of his injuries causes him to cry. Eventually, the thoughts of you burn more than the searing pain that reminds him of his consciousness. He weeps as if he has truly lost you, for how could someone love a man so misguided?

-> If you ever visit him, he feels sick. How could you still want to see him after all this? He was a failure of a man, yet here you were with a kind smile as if nothing happened.

-> He'd love to hear your voice. It was more pleasant than the silence of the Medical Bay or from Jimmy's ramblings. How were the crew? How were you? He'd feel especially guilty if you talked about your relationship and what you hoped they could do before the crash. The date plans, the simple times spent together. He could dream of it, still.

-> Read him a story. It'll help him sleep easier. It reminds him of those nights when the two of you chatted about nothing, dozy and delirious off each other's presence, lulling yourselves into a comfortable sleep when Pony Express couldn't care enough to provide a good sleeping quarter.

-> His heart breaks at the sight of you dishevelled, tired of surviving on the Tulpar. He wished he had his hands back to gently trace the curves of your face and hold you close to him as you forgot about the world. He still tries to comfort you, a garbled noise here, or a small movement of his arm to try and show his support.

-> As he recovers back on Earth, he'd be ecstatic to have you by his side. Having you by his side was the quickest way for him to recover.

-> If he recovers his voice, the first thing he says is a quiet thank you and a simple "I love you." The apologies came later. He just needed to make sure you knew how lucky he was to have someone so perfect.

-> Likely during recovery, I'd imagine him needing some kind of service animal. It may not be the kids he was hoping for, but having you and a pet was something he only dreamt about while staring into the fake sunset.

-> He becomes much more open about his emotions. The pain of not being able to vocalise them is one he never wants to face again. Tender nights and open communication become commonplace in your relationship.

-> He's still the #1 wife guy, only cranked up to 1000. If you thought he was bad before, you haven't seen the man now. If he ever gets drunk, he sobs about how much he loves you to anyone in his vicinity. He could do it sober but doesn't want to embarrass you (too much). He takes the time to learn your favourite recipes, making them when he can and makes sure to compliment you at least once a day. He just wants you to love yourself the way he loves you!

-> Your time together is peaceful and he wouldn't want it any other way.

[A/N] : My first request, hello!! This was so cute to write for but I hope I characterized him well! I hope this does your ask justice. ♡

CAPTAIN CURLY:

-> Even before he asks you out, he's sure you're trying to torture him. He doesn't know whether to be thankful you were on the Tulpar or if he should curse the Gods above.

-> Should he pursue you? Curly has a thousand questions on his mind, unbecoming of the expectations of a captain. He worries that if he asks, you'd only accept due to the power difference. Was it his title, or him?

-> He's not the type to daydream often, but the idea of him confessing becomes a scenario that plays out too often and with too many endings. He'd love to see your reaction if you accepted. The heat rushing to your face, or perhaps you take it in stride, leaving him embarrassed instead. As long as you said yes, he would be the happiest man alive!

-> Sometimes, his mind wanders to the more unfortunate ending. Your eyes reflecting an awkwardness and a level of pity he couldn't handle the thought of. His mind replays the conversations you'd share, now filled with a level of tension that makes him want to itch at his skin until he rips a hole big enough to climb out of it. Rather than picking, he lets the hope fester within him, his bittersweet yearning mixed with seeing you every day only making the idea of his first move among the stars seem even sweeter.

-> His confession comes quietly. He's a sap for old-school romance. It would be during a particularly quiet night on the Tulpar. Everyone else was asleep, leaving only you and the captain awake with a conversation he was only partially attentive to. He was trying to pay attention to you, soft nods and hums of agreement as your serene voice filled his ears. The voice he'd dream of hearing say "I love you" before he slept on the less-than-stellar mattresses Pony Express provided. You had looked especially radiant that night (although he felt he could say that every night), and something in him snapped once the conversation hit a lull.

"Say... How about I treat you to dinner once we're back? We can make a day of it. Just me and you."

-> He didn't mean to let it slip, but God was he thankful for it. It wasn't the suave, built-up confession to leave you blushing that he had hoped for, but your acceptance and smile were more than enough to make up for it.

-> Keeps to his word and does make a day of it. Back in his college days, he would've taken you somewhere more lively. Perhaps ice skating if the weather suited it, anything to ease the tension of the usual first date. Instead, he focuses much more on you. The reserved type? How about a quiet time together in the comfort of his house? Sporty? Well, he's sure he could keep up in a round of laser tag.

-> No matter what, he's a gentleman. The type of man to open the doors for you, pull your seat out and push it in for you at restaurants, and hold your bag for you if you looked tired. He's ecstatic just to be spending time with you. He does end it with a romantic dinner, likely home-cooked. He makes a few comments on how he tried his best to make something he thought you enjoyed, but he's not the best cook in the world, with eyes that don't quite meet yours and a gentle flush on his ears, which melts away once you start to eat.

-> He will drive you home, no questions asked. Walks you to your door and presses a soft kiss to your cheek, with a promise of a second date.
