Truth be told, she’d been mulling over what to spend her silver star wish on. Sitting at the edge of her bed, with the little silver object resting idly in her hands, she thought over how to word her wish.

Time was wasting, and as the clock drew ever-near to midnight, she figured now was a better time than ever.

One of the biggest curiosities for her to this day was how humans worked. Gumi knew the basic core biology of what made humans tick, but she could never quite grasp a deeper understanding of what it truly meant to be human. What was it like to breath? To feel a cold winter’s grasp wisp at your skin? She’d always heard about it, read about it, and even seen it- but never experienced it.

And quite frankly, it sounded amazing. Almost like a dream just a little too far out of her grasp. But, with this star she held within her hands, she had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience what she was never blessed with.

And so clasping it between her fingers, she brought the magical object up to her chest. She closed her eyes, quieting herself and her ‘thoughts’ to be as calm as possible, save for one thing: “I wish to live like a human.”

At first there was nothing. She kept chanting her wish within her head, waiting silently for anything at all to happen. And when it didn’t, she opened her eyes, blinking in confusion. She drew the star away from her chest, eyes widening in frustration. Letting out a growl, she felt something that caught her off guard.

Her chest contracting. She drew in a breath, then exhaled it out again. An almost fluttery-like sensation immediately struck her chest, and she found herself coughing. Air. Breath.

Immediately she shot up to her feet, nearly losing her balance in the process. She was still an android, no, but she was perceiving things she’d never felt before. A necessity to breath, smells, temperature, a keen and delicate sense of touch.

And when Gumi began to feel her rising sense of excitement and joy begin to form in her chest, she nearly lost it right there and then.

An elaborately imposed delusion this might be; perhaps now she’d be able to understand what it meant to be ‘human’.

Christmas day was drawing very near; and quite frankly? She needed someone to spend it with. She’d be damned if she spent such a big day alone. Time to put this phone to use.

The specialist jumped at the sound of a girls voice. She instinctively went for her rapier only to find much to her surprise a …wooden sword? She pointed it at Gumi but drew her arm back as she saw she was not a threat. Gumi was probably just passing by. Sheathing her worthless imitation of a weapon she relaxed. “I would advise not to sneak up behind me in the future..” Winter gazed at Gumi a slight smile crossing her face at the comment. Unlike the way Qrow spoke to her about her looks the way Gumi complimented her was almost..cute. “Thank you.” She said. “It is a inherited trait that marks my status as a member of the Schnee family.” Winter proudly said. “Names Winter..”

Gumi immediately froze up as soon as the woman turned around to point her makeshift weapon at her. She raised her hands slightly in her defense, stepping back a bit. “Wait, I-...” She trailed off completely as soon as she began to draw her weapon back. Alright, perhaps accidentally scaring people wasn’t her smartest idea.

Taking a few seconds to recompose herself, her posture returned to normal and she offered an awkward smile. “Sorry.” She replied rather enthusiastically. “You can call me Gumi. It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Winter! Really... Uh, sorry about scaring you like that?”

“It depends. There are some restrictions of course. What were you hoping to wish for?” It couldn’t be something too unreasonable.

“I don’t know. I’ve never made a wish like this before. I have some ideas, but... I’m not sure.” She looked up at him. “What are you wishing for?”

Booting up on this particular morning before Christmas, one thing Gumi did not expect to wake up to was a smartphone laying on her computer desk.

Puzzled yet excited at the idea this device was for her, she picked it up and watched it boot to life. A smile began to form on her lips as she scrolled through the contacts and even tested to see if the internet browsing worked on it. All of it worked, and all of it seemed connected.

“Finally!” She exclaimed, probably much to the alarm of her roommates. “My own cellphone. I don’t know how they expected me to live without this!”

With all that said, she was glad she now had the ability to stay connected with all the weird folks she met in this city.

The lights were certainly a beautiful sight to see.

Of course, being the holiday-loving type he is, Kaito couldn’t help but stop and stare. A soft smile encompasses his features as he gazes across the familiar seeming lights and decorations–it feels like it would at home, for a moment, but of course, this is no one’s true home. He knows that.

He’s about to turn away to head back to his house, when the sound of a familiar voice catches his attention. The android stops immediately, takes a moment to register things, and then turns to see if the source is who he’s expecting.

Which, he finds, it is.

“Gumi!!” Kaito exclaims, clasping his hands together before he promptly runs forth to greet the familiar face. The smile on his face has grown, from a softer gaze to that of an excited someone who’s happy to see someone he knows from home. “Hello! When did you get here!? Are you doing okay? This place can be pretty crazy sometimes, and– a-ah, no, wait, I’m asking you too many things at once… um, but it’s good to see you!”

A smile to match his forms on her lips, Gumi rushing to meet with the blue haired boy. She has an urge to hug him, but she restrains herself for now. “I haven’t been here long! Well, almost a month, actually. But that’s not too long I guess.” She nods.

“I’m okay! Haven’t been hurt or anything yet, heh. But it’s good to see you too, Kaito! How long have you been here?! Wish I found you earlier.”

As someone with the ability to process information and thoughts at very high speeds and intervals, sometimes Gumi had the tendency to muse about the strangest of things. This was one of them.

“You know, miss,” She suddenly spoke up from behind the white haired woman, having been walking behind her. “Your hair! It reminds me of winter time snow.” She smiled, genuine curiousness in your eyes.

“... Just thought I’d say that. It’s very cool.”

If there was one thing that was very apparent at the moment, it was that people tended to put a lot of effort into decorating their deserts this time of year.

Gumi watched from the other side of the glass, eyeing the various Christmas-themed bakery treats at one of the various bakeries in Hive City. Elegantly frosted sugar cookies, gingerbread houses, and even little cookies that were shaped like reindeer. They were all very pretty to look at, and eating them was probably an even better experience.

“I wonder who spends all this time making these things.” She mused. “If I had money to spare, I’d totally buy some...”

Christmas day was only a mere five days away, and Gumi found herself alone for the days leading up. Back home, it was commonplace for the Vocaloids such as herself to be incredibly busy right about now. It was one of the biggest holidays of the year, and it was also a big time for marketing and public appearances. And, of course, singing.

Gumi crossed her arms from the bench of which she sat, idly kicking her feet outwards as she stared down in thought. She would have hated to admit it, but homesickness was beginning to kick in to a degree. At the very least, she missed the presence of her fellow Vocaloids. They were annoying at times, sure, but sometimes they formed a semblance of something called... a family.

     “Jingle bells, jingle bells...”

She began to sing, though it was quiet and off beat. She desperately tried to remember the lyrics, and the beat of which she was supposed to sing it.

     “Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to...?”

She trailed off, falling silent for a moment before suddenly growling in annoyance. “Dammit!” She exclaimed, probably a bit louder then she intended. “I can’t remember the lyrics to anything!” She lurched forward, hunching over and burying her head in her hands. “They took it all away...”

The cultural sector of Hive City was the most puzzling for Gumi to watch undergo the overhaul for the festive season. It came off as a constant, ever-changing mish-mash of ways to celebrate what she knew as “Christmas”, and frankly felt like it was going way over her head.

Venturing through the streets, she was taking the time to take in all the sights they had to offer, until she eventually came upon a particular area that appeared to mimic something closer to home. Depictions of Santa Clause, twinkling lights and ornamental reefs decorated this area. A gentle smile crossed her lips as she watched the lights, appearing mesmerized by what was before her.

“This sector is really pretty,” Gumi mused to no one in particular, briefly glancing to the side before looking away again. That is, until she paused and realized something. A familiar blue and outfit in her peripheral vision, and she found herself snapped out of her daze as she looked to the side to confirm her suspicions. 

“Kaito--?!”
