âKEAGAN SULLIVAN.
Thinking more about it, he should have known something about flooding and what to do. He was smart enough to figure it out but it would have been easier to work together with someone else. But yet again, he was shown that the person he wants isnât going to be Cordy. Maybe he should have been more grateful for her help, maybe spoke to her in a different way, but what was done is done and what is said had been said. He canât take it back and he sure as fuck wasnât going to apologize about it now. Now Cordy wants to leave and while he couldnât blame her, this whole situation was shitty and his attitude wasnât any better, it left him feeling annoyed about it. Even if he disliked her greatly, it never felt good being left alone, even if he had been left alone for practically his whole life.
âWell,â he paused, looking around, frowning a little. âThanks, I guess.â At this point, he was too tired to argue, too tired to be angry about it all. He pulled his phone out of his back pocket, going through the internet to search for what he needs. He still hadnât heard from anyone else in the group, ignoring the slight worry that began to gnaw at him, still bitter that they hadnât bothered to contact. âHopefully your sister will pick you up,â he muttered, still looking at his phone. If he had to go pick something up, heâd have to walk and thinking about walking in this rain made him a little bit bitter. âMaybe text someone else from our group and ask them why the fuck they decided to ignore me.â
Cordelia truthfully didnât know or care how he was feeling right now. He hadnât done anything yet worth receiving her help, yet she had initially given it to him because he had sent out his own little cry for help. Clearly he was unhappy that she was the only one there, or whatever else was making him unhappy, but it didnât need to be taken out on her. Cordy walked towards the door, waiting to hear the chime of response that Dinah would be on her way to get her. To no surprise, her sister texted her back quickly and said sheâd come and get her. Dinah had always taken care of her, and all it took was âa boy is being a dick to meâ to get her to speed on her way over. Usually she came with some sort of scathing response for them as well, but there was 50/50 chance on that this time, and it was only because of the weather. Cordy would probably run out to the car and call it a day. She ignored his thanks, because it didnât really seem genuine, and it didnât make up for the unwelcome feeling she had settling in her stomach. âShe said sheâs on her way,â Cordy said cooly as he spoke again. She planned to wait for a text from Dinah, but she also stayed near the door so she could watch for headlights. âOr you could text them yourself,â Cordy retorted. âMaybe they have their own flooding issues to deal with, or their phones are dead.â She shrugged her shoulders lightly again. She let the silence pass, her phone eventually chiming again to say that Dinah was almost there. Cordy flipped up the hood of her rain jacket and tucked her hair inside as best as she could. âSheâs here,â she said as the headlights flashed in her direction, and she made her exit.

âSCARLETT WALSH.
âGood to know,â she leans forward, a delightful surprised look dancing in her eyes. âA little plain? Uhmm,â she pauses, for a moment, pondering over her entire look. Maybe the girl was right. âWhat if I went with a totally different look? Like a red, velvet-y dress?â Scarlett smiled suggestively. âYou look like you know a few things about fashion,â she flashed the girl another dress, a navy blue with white stripes all over it. âToo grandma-ish? I never know what to buy because Iâll never run out of my taste for little black dresses⌠but maybe they are a little too plain and have run out of fashion.â
Cordelia let out a little âhmmâ as she thought over the two options she was being shown. She did know quite a bit about fashion, although she still felt starved for real fashion that big cities had to offer. Cordy could order online, but it just wasnât the same as being able to walk the streets of New York City, or Los Angeles. She had gone a few times with her mother, who was pretty much just a professional sunbather and shopper, but it wasnât frequently enough for Cordyâs taste. âLittle black dresses arenât completely out of fashion. I just think they need more to them to really make them shine,â she said with a shrug. âIâd go with the red over the navy and stripes. That always gives me a sailor vibe.â

âKEAGAN SULLIVAN.
âand what makes you think your presence wouldnât annoy me even if you didnât come alone?â the retort was quick, full of bite that seemed to increase due to her growing edge in her tone. thatâs just how it is with keagan when it comes to cordy, she sets something off inside of him that is just annoyed with her. add in everything else thatâs currently happening, the rain and flooding and everyone else in their group being fuck knows where. he was taking his frustration out on her and he wouldnât be offering her an apology about it any time soon. he made his way around, unplugging various electronics and made sure to keep the plugs somewhere they wouldnât get wet. he wasnât sure if water was rising still or if it was slowing down, still enough to cover his feet but not too much yet.
he worked on his side of the room, hoping that the little that he did own wasnât going to be ruined by all this water. keagan wasnât that sentimental about much, a lot of his childhood was spent being upset rather than happy so it wasnât like anything from his past would spark emotion from him if destroyed. but the new things, the shit that was given to him by his friends or the family that graciously brought him in; heâd be crushed if it got ruined. the thing about moving everything he could off the floor, he was running out of height for things and if the water kept rising, that would mean even more work. fuck, he had to talk to cordy again. âuh fuck. cordy, do you know what to do about this flooding, to stop it?âÂ
The whole time she edged her way around the room, picking stuff up for someone who was completely ungrateful for her help, Cordelia asked herself why she was even here. Honestly, part of her knew she was still there because she wasnât prepared to brave driving in the rainstorm again, but what was worse? The storm or dealing with Keagan? Cordy could always call Dinah. Her sister would come and get her if she called, because Dinah had always been someone she could count on. Cordelia had her own attitude initially with Keagan, but it was mainly because she had come to help and felt like he was ungrateful about it and spoke to her rudely.... so naturally she spoke rudely back. As Cordy moved things around, she started to get a little more and more irritated - especially when the boxes were slightly too heavy for her small frame to manage. Hopefully there was nothing breakable in the heavy ones, because those were being handled a little bit more roughly. By the time they met in the middle, Cordy was already far too irritated with him to have another conversation. He seemed to be talking to her begrudgingly, and after initially talking about how he wasnât thrilled for her help, she thought it was ironic that he now had to ask for her help. Honestly, she wasnât a professional at this, but she also wasnât stupid. She had heard things about flooding while growing up in Louisiana, especially in the last major floods. She had been in college by then, and she had heard about what some of the students had to do. Something to do with sandbags, she was pretty sure. She heard they were heavy though, and even if they had some lying around, she wouldnât be able to help with them. The irritation had been building in her though, so she opted for not being helpful anymore. âYeah - actually, I do,â she said, putting the final box up on top of the washer. âBut you can figure it out, Iâm sure. Iâm going to call my sister for a ride. I donât really feel like helping anymore.â

âKEAGAN SULLIVAN.
stubborn is as stubborn does, isnât that the old saying? it fit keagan perfectly, too stubborn for his own good, and the only thing that outweighed it was logic. depending on the context, logic couldnât compare because it was just easier to be stubborn. he was being stubborn with cordy for no reason other than it annoyed her and he didnât particularly like her. it was childish. âi didnât think youâd be the only one showing up so fuck me for being a little irritated.â he wouldnât say excuse me and he wouldnât apologize. if it wasnât for the fact that they could be in danger suddenly, he probably would have kept it up. especially with her indignant noises. it was like fucking nails on a chalkboard.
he rolled his eyes at her comment about her dad having a really good lawyer. as much as he wanted to comment on that alone, he kept his cool, trying to seem aloof to the fact that cordy comes from a family that could afford a really good lawyer. âjust pick stuff off the floor, iâll handle the electrical stuff. donât you worry your pretty little head about it.â keaganâs tone was full of sarcasm and mocking, a usual tone to hold when around cordy. he canât help it, she brings this part of him out so easily. and not having any of their other friends around to act as a buffer, heâs being unleashed almost fully and without too much restraint.Â
"Sounds like you should be irritated at the people who didnât show up, not the person who did.â Cordy didnât expect an apology from him, although she felt as if she deserved one. She had certainly developed an edge to her tone as well, but she didnât usually start off with an edge unless pushed - which, it was very easy to push her to that. Sometimes, Cordy could say things that annoyed another person that she didnât realize was considered annoying until after it was said. She didnât like apologizing, but she usually would once she realized - although sometimes it gave off a not so genuine vibe. Cordelia didnât think that was the case here though, rather that Keagan had immediately gotten mad at her when she was only coming to try to help. She could have easily ignored his text. âFine.â Cordelia tried to keep her tone from having a punch to it, the way it usually would get when she was irritated and threw out the word fine. She realized that even if it leaked through, he wouldnât care. She started picking some of the stuff off the floor on the other side of the room, putting things up wherever she could find that was higher. She tried to avoid the couch and chairs that they all sat in to avoid getting them wet, but she knew eventually it would become inevitable. Cordy chose the tables, any open shelves, and even putting it on the stairs, washing machine, and dryer first. She continued to work, purposefully trying to stay on the other side of the room from him, but she knew pretty quickly, theyâd probably be meeting in the middle.

âOooh,â she gestured at the other, touching the personâs forearm lightly as to not disturb them, even though she probably already had. She wasnât that used to buying clothes by herself. She had always had her sister, and now that their relationship had gone downhill, it was basically Scarlett by Scarlett.
âWhat do you think of this dress?â Flashing them a little black dress that was probably far too short for a small-minded town like Oakland, she was out to cause a scene â like always. âI know itâs not flashy, but itâs short enough to leave an impression on every single man whoâs ever laid eyes upon me,â her remark was confident, although she didnât feel like so. âOkay⌠you officially need to help me, my friends are practically dumbasses and I need an honest opinion. Nothing better than a total stranger who doesnât know me and therefore can be completely blunt, right?â She laughed, sarcasm dripping from her words.
"Oh, Iâd be completely blunt with you even if I wasnât a stranger.â The words rolled casually off of Cordeliaâs lips, although they were entirely true. She had the tendency to offend people with her truthfulness. Sometimes, offense was her endgame, but usually, she didnât say something with the intention to be rude. She was more so just a âI think it, I say itâ sort of person. When it came to clothes, Cordy was especially honest, because there was nothing more tragic than a fashion emergency. Cordy stepped back slightly, tilting her head to the side as she examined the dress. âI mean, every girl needs a little black dress - or several little black dresses - but itâs a little plain for my taste.â She let out a light âhmâ as she thought of a way to make it better. âMaybe add a dash of color to it?â she suggested. âLike a bold necklace, or even a bold set of heels.â

âKEAGAN SULLIVAN.
cordy townsend is the last person that keagan wanted to be around today. of course, the last thing he wanted was for this basement, his bedroom, to be flooding so the only cherry to top this spectacular day is having cordy around. ever since the moment he met her, cordy has rubbed keagan the wrong way and that irritation only got worse throughout the years. he could never understand why his friend would be dating her but he didnât have much of a say in the whole thing. while it would give him great enjoyment if they broke up but even he knew that cordy would still be around, somehow worming herself into their friend group. keagan hated it.
as soon as she spoke again, he fought all urges to groan. he didnât want to fight and argue about this, he had shit to clean up off the ground and he needed help. but the last thing keagan would do is give in to whatever cordy wants and he wasnât about to ask her politely like she wanted. âif you donât want to help then why the hell are you here? i donât have time to deal with you.â too quick to be angry and stubborn about this, keagan chose to ignore cordy as he went back to picking things up off the floor. this is a mess, such a fucking mess. yet, as soon as he was picking up another box he remembered the electrical cords that would be on the floor. âfuck me. âcordy, please help me before weâre both fucking electrocuted or some shit?â
Cordy would be one of the first people to tell you that she was a challenge. She would admit this knowledge with no shame in her voice, because her parents always told her never to bend to what other people wanted easily - that other people should be doing the bending for her. Although she was a challenge, she did truthfully care about anyone she considered a friend. She would be the first to rag on Keagan Sullivan when he was annoying, but here she was - answering his plea in their group chat and being the only one to show up. Cordelia didnât show it often, but she had a soft heart, guarded in very heavy armor to avoid showing any weaknesses. She let out a soft âhmphâ as he refused to actually ask for help. She knew he needed help, so it was partially her being difficult, but the way he had asked her before had flipped the difficult switch in her. âWell sorry - just thought Iâd answer your SOS text. Didnât think that Iâd be met with such hostility, especially since Iâm the only one who showed up.â She was about to turn around and make an exit, even though driving in the rain again sounded like a horrible plan. Maybe she could just go upstairs, kick her feet up, and watch TV since she expected the house must be empty of none of its upstairs inhabitants had come down yet. Cordeliaâs exit was cut short though as he finally came around to actually asking her for help - although clearly very begrudgingly. She let out another soft âhmphâ before beginning to pick a few things up off the floor. âI better not get electrocuted. My dad has a really good lawyer.âÂ

âKEAGAN SULLIVAN.
this is a fucking mess. when it came to weather, keagan didnât bother to keep up with it because he knew it changed often enough and they werenât in hurricane season anymore so what could go wrong? flooding. flooding could go wrong. he didnât notice it at first, walking around the basement in his usual stupor, wondering where the hell everyone was and why it was just him hanging out in the basement. sure, itâs his room but itâs also the go-to hang out with his friends anymore and thereâs usually always at least one other person in the basement with him. so it took him a while to notice the flooding, the pools of water that started gathering near the back door started to make its way towards boxes and his walkway from couch to where his bed was. as soon as his sock touched wet, keagan jumped back cursing loudly. he set out a text in the group chat instantly, grumbling about the wetness and hoping that his friends got the urgency to come to the basement quickly.
while waiting for everyone to show up, he put on shoes hoping it would keep him from getting more clothing wet. even though he had no idea what to do with the flooding that was happening, this is the first time itâs happened in a long time in this basement and the last thing keagan knew, they had work done to make sure this didnât happen. but the first thing that came to mind was moving everything off the floor, starting with boxes of holiday decorations and old baby photos. he barely noticed cordy come in until she said something, her voice instantly causing him to make a face and roll his eyes. âthe fuck if i know,â he told her at first, placing a box on top of the washer and dryer. âprobably bitching about this rain while water is trying to damage my room.â keagan looked at cordy, eyebrows raised before finally asking, âare you going to help me get shit off the floor?â
Most of the time, the group was quick to rally when someone needed them. Cordy supposed they were probably busy with dealing with their own issues when it came to the flooding, but it wasnât going to keep her from whining about how none of them showed up in the end. She had already gone pro in that, and her boyfriend would be hearing the most of it. If he was really even her boyfriend anymore. She couldnât even give the âweâve just been arguing a lot more than usualâ excuse, because they had always argued. It was more that Cordy had been hearing a number of things about him, and the tally count to how many times he had cheated on her was getting to high to be ignored. They were still together, but she was at her witâs end with this. She was tired of being treated the way she had been treated, but they had been together for years, so it was a hard pill to swallow. Cordy hadnât heard from him all day, so she at least hoped he was okay in the madness of this weather, even if she was getting steadily more and more angry with him. Keagan Sullivan drove her nuts more than they got along. They were only âfriendsâ because of who they hung around with, and she had heard many times initially (not just from him, in fairness) that she wasnât wanted around in the group. After dating their friend for so long, people just ended up getting used to her over the last three to four years. Keagan and Cordy had never really gotten used to each other though, and she knew he was less than thrilled that she was the only one who showed up too. She looked down at the wet floor, grateful she had slipped her rain boots on so the water wouldnât seep into her shoes, her face crumpling into irritation at his words. âMaybe if you asked politely, I would.â She knew this wasnât the right time to be difficult, but she wouldnât be herself if she was any other way.

It was pouring outside, which wasnât anything unusual. Cordelia thought nothing of the weathermanâs forecast about the rain and anticipated it wouldnât be a big deal, just as the news continued to say. Yet, as the rain continued, the weather channels were changing their tune. Cordelia, on the other hand, had her music blaring and paid no mind to anything other than the music and her newest online shopping order. The chiming of her phone interrupted her music, and while she mightâve been ignoring everything else, she never ignored her phone. It was no surprise to see the typical group chat pop up on her phone with a request for everyone to make their way to the basement. She grumbled a little bit, only because she was trying to place a shopping order and because she didnât want to get her hair wet, but she left the shopping cart as is and slipped on her rain boots- which reminded her to look for a new pair if they were going to continue to get all of this rain. She grabbed her raincoat and keys as well, going down the stairs and heading for the door. Cordy had done well ignoring the weather, but it wasnât easy to ignore now that she opened the front door and spotted what was happening outside. Cordelia flipped up her hood and ran to the car, inwardly cursing for not parking in the garage earlier. The ride to her familiar hangout spot was rough, her car hydroplaning more than once, and Cordelia almost texted back to say âscrew thisâ before turning around to go home. She realized that she was closer to her destination than she was to home right now, so sheâd get out of the rain faster if she kept going, and maybe she could get someone to give her a ride home after this mess was over so she wouldnât have to drive in it. You know.... provided the rain didnât get any worse. She parked her car and made a break for it. When she got to the basement, Cordelia was greeted with a mess and only one of her friends (if you could even call him that). She stopped, looking around to ensure nobody else was there, before she spoke. âWhereâs everybody else?â
